New(old)snap on box

Just got this other night. Trying to decide how much of a restoration I want to do. the drawers need to be gone through. I tried using a hacksaw blade, but I must not have the touch cant get them to release. I would like to take the stickers off and repaint at least the top. That is the only thing that bugs about the box is the top. I wish it were in better shape. Does anyone know if you can buy the tops from snap on? All comments welcome!

One of my favorite boxes ever. You do know there are a row of small drawers on the right? (yes some people miss them) but I would just sand the outside of the box and reshoot it.

A hair dryer (or a heat gun on low ) and a plastic scraper will help take the decals off. Then more than likely you'll have to use a solvent like 3M adheisive remover ( or naptha) to get the sticky glue off.

The hack saw blade needs to be trimed alittle more narrow & put a 45 degree bend in it. If your like me it took about 15 minutes to get the 1st drawer out then about 1 min. per drawer after the 1st one.

Try a hair dryer & wd 40 on the stickers. Other than that clean it & use it. I like pitina myself. Nice box :thumbup:

Do what Breeze says. Then use a claybar and some rubbing compound on the paint to remove the grime, overspray etc. Polish and wax and it will look great.

okay got the drawers out!! and the slides!!!!! I have them sitting in some simple green. The previous owner had put white grease all over the slides. My glove are nasty. What do you guys lube the slides with????????????

back in the day, everybody used white grease on the slides :headscrat

i used to have some kind of waxy lube in a tube that worked great on my friction slides.

if i lubed friction slides at all i'd use a graphite or silicone spray.

one of the more popular roller cabs that guys used to have with that box was a kra300e.

there was a matching roller cab for that top, but the model # escapes me.

kr 557 ? maybe :confused:

That is one nice KRA300!!!! I really like that design for some reason... Maybe because I got one for free, or because it is my main box... I always wanted a top box for it and gave up and bought the montezuma instead...

i got the kra 300e ('76) & the kr537a ('79) (nearly) free.
i traded out a set of 26" remline pro's for them.
back in my early days those were my dream boxes, i ended up buying a kr 550/555 combo instead.

i'm not a huge fan of the kr 537 or kra637 with the narrow drawers, they just dont fit my storage needs for work, but they are fine for home use.
the harley boxes have never been 'worked" out of, always been home boxes.
