It's interesting that tool makers don't offer more ratchets with built-in speeders. Definitely a useful feature.

Thanks for the comparision pics, JK, of the 3/8" and 1/2". That's a nice compact 1/2" head for sure.

I've always had these two guys in mind:

Built-in speeder with square drive on the handle end:

Built in wobble looks really interesting.

Yeah, pretty unique isn't it?

Here's a couple "pro use" precision screwdrivers made by Engineer. Yeah, that's right, for professionals only.
I wish more screwdrivers came with knurling on their shanks.

Next is an Engineer hand drill that I've had for about 20 years. Comes with four different collets.

Looks good! Probably a silly question, but how does it work, I mean, how does it 'drill through' as it were? Surely the Mk 1 finger can't generate enough speed? :headscrat

I like the translucent handles. :)

Yeah, like small popsicles. :D

I think they are made by Shark? I've got a similar one...

The logo belongs to Dogyu. :)
I have an old cats paw that's followed me from Japan, made by http://www.bakuma.co.jp/ that I should take a photo of. For some reason they don't list their hand tools on their site though. :headscrat

This is for craft type work, drilling through soft and thin materials. Feed pressure typically is controlled by your index finger and the body is spun by your thumb and middle finger.

Some more older stuff:

'SM' brand diagonal cutter, 'Tamiya' brand radio pliers (combination needle nose), and 'Keiba' brand pliers. The OEM for the Tamiya pliers is Keiba. These are all well over 15 years old.

Hmmm, I'm gonna need to see one in action... one day :)

Now one of these I've wanted since I'd seen it in the Tools of the Old World thread. Not sold here in NZ though, and the Shinwa stuff here is made in China. I'm off to the UK soon though... ;)

are you sure the whole set is made in japan and not just the tin can that it's in? ;-P
HOpe you don't mind my asking, but what would make you think it wasn't a Japanese set? I come across a few Japanese sets here every now and again, some of which look like the SKC sets...

My grandmother in Japan had a few hand tools kept in her house. I thought these two items were worth a photo.

Quite an old "EASY OIL" penetrating lubricant, made by Nihon Hermetics Co. Ltd.

Sorry for the crappy photos...phone camera.

Another old NT Cutter, retractable cutting knife with its original box! So cool.

Neat NT cutter, I think they are the best on the market. Another example of the Japanese making things better than the minimum standard.

Wise brand allen keys. I saw these at the local hardware store but resisted buying them...they were 6000 yen (around $50 USD):scared:
I hunted Yahoo Japan auctions and got a brand new set for $20 incl shipping.
As you can see from the pics they are quite long and when compared with my snap on set you can see how shallow they are, this allows them to get into confined spaces. The different head design also allows for very short lateral movement. Happy with this purchase!

Not a fan of this Koken 3/8 wobblehead, too much wobble for my liking.

Next time I go to the local hardware I'll take my cam and post some pics. There're a lot of nice reasonably priced Japanese tools here.

Nice stuff there, gbh.
May I ask where in Asia you reside in?

Wise makes some unique hex keys that no one else in the world offers.

Here's a picture of mine that I dug out

I have these, kept them from my last job installing scoreboards. they are for cutting cable. they work really well but i didn't use them often and started to rust pretty bad.
