A good weekend of searching (so far), and I could say that WITHOUT any of the tools. But they were pretty good too. First stop was an estate sale Thursday evening that yielded a Ridgid pipe wrench, a Powr Kraft adjustable wrench, and two small Herbrand wrenches. No pictures of those. On Friday, I hit an estate sale on my lunch break and slipped into a garage sale in my neighborhood before going home:
fritools1.jpg

The good stuff here: A wrench set with a handle and interchangable open-end heads by Xcel, a small Dunlap hand box (like I need another one of those...), a couple of multi-tools, screwdrivers by Craftsman, Wizard, and Vlchek, a sliding ruler, Utica diagonal cutters in their original box, a giant pair of tweezers (for giant splinters???), and barely visible is the '60s Craftsman electric drill in its original box.
Saturday:
A local multi-family garage sale ad caught my eye when it said "tool and die tools." There were indeed some machine shop-type tools, but nothing that I had to have. Until I saw this:
kennedy1.jpg

Its seen very, very little use. I didn't bother to haggle on the $35 price. I am curious, though-the layout, top tray, lack of felt, and size all say "mechanic's box", but the finish says "machinist's box"-were/are Kennedy mechanic's boxes available in brown wrinkle finish? This one is already spoken for. It's going to a friend who needs a toolbox.
The following aren't my usual thing, but they seem to have collector followings:
sattools2.jpg

The saw is a Disston, the oil can a Craftsman.
Finally: This actually combines a few pliers and Diamalloy adjustable wrench with a box I picked up at a swap meet:
Sattools1.jpg

Craftsman, Diamond, and other pliers, some adjustable wrenches in need of repair, double box end wrenches from various makers, an 11" Ford (?) wrench with the Vlchek logo, one non-functioning 3/8" SK ratchet (have to do surgery to see if she's gone or not), one functioning 3/8" SK-Wayne ratchet (think that's going in the Kennedy box as a bonus for my friend), an Indestro 3/8" ratchet, a 1930s laminated Duro Chrome ratchet, some early Blackhawk and Hinsdale sockets, and a Wizard 1/2" sliding T-handle, among others.

Yes they were and are. I have the same box, and I bought it new 25 plus years ago, along with a 2 drawer intermediate box. I did so because the 10 drawer Craftswoman top box I had was too heavy for two strong men to move full, and it was my track box. by going to a split setup we could get each "half" from the shop to the back of the truck. Not sure I still have the tray for it though, I tended to throw those out as an annoying interference...

Some nice finds! Can we get better pics of the tools in the orange tray, and the drill? Is it in a metal box?

Garage sale 2 blocks from home. Saw an ad in the large metro area newspaper under "tools" rather than "garage or Estate sales" and it only ran like Wednesday and Thursday?:headscrat. No ad in the immediate local paper or Craig'slist:headscrat.

A family selling off fathers tools. Father worked at the local GM plant and of course came from a generation who did most repairs themselves. Get there on the dot saturday @ 9:00 am and it is raining and absolutely no one there other than me :D so I take my time and have a pick of everything so this is what I ended up with:

3 - William's 1/2 Dr S-52's ratchets
1/2 Dr. Billings ratchet
3/8 Dr. Husky ratchet
1/4 Dr. Snap-on flex ratchet

Those side cutters with the grooves in the jaws used to have a set of rubbers in them, to retain cutoffs of wire so they wouldn't go flying. Those grooves held the rubbers in. Don't know if you can still find replacements.

Interesting, I've never seen a pair like that, with or without the rubber bits. Thanks!

The drill is in a cardboard box. There's a date of "7-61" on the label, if that means anything. Unfortunately only half the price tag is left. Drill looks good and does work:

The tools in the orange box are interesting. I actually found a thread on here from a few years ago about a similar set, but the photos were long gone. It's an "Xcel Multi-head Wrench set" by Park Metalware in Orchard Park, NY. Interchangeable heads sizes 3/4"-1-1/16" with one handle to snap them onto.

oooo I want those diamond handy mans

When I first spied them I thought they were some novelty chinese ****. But I spied "Diamond" and picked them up and said to myself "what the hell?". Never knew anything about that type of wrench from Diamond. Learned of another thing to be on the lookout for. These may even fly under the radar what with them looking like a novelty.

Nice goodies all of you!
I would like to have the Diamond with different heads. Possible?

We don't get many of those tools out this way. I have been seeing a bit of Gedore, German's settled this area years ago.

I dropped back by the First estate sale from yesterday to see what was left and to see what I could get "on clearance"

The only tools were these, the Yankee style driver is a Goodell=Pratt and has the "Toolsmith" TM, so pre 1930. without fussing with it it works going in, bu not going out, but I may be able to fix that.

the chisel is an old Stanley and the grip is sort of flat/indented.

Other than that it was 3 cans of carb cleaner, one of brake cleaner, a silver cup, a brass soap dish that looked like and olf claw foot tub, some bar solder, some partial rolls of wire solder, some misc junk, and a Heathkit CB 1000 Linear amplifier that I have hopes of making a few bucks on. It is apparently up to a a 1000W amp, and ranges from 160 to 10 (meters)? I need to down load and read up on the documentation.

I bet you will make a few bucks off the amp for sure. I picked up a large pile of Wilson antennas a while back and made some good money off them. If you ever find any ham radio stuff, let me know. My bro will want it for his station in his garage

Thanks. The reel is original. Most if not all of this was old, made in the USA stuff. Two of the vice grips are old craftsman. The battery charger and dwell meter are like new. The shop light is never opened made in USA. The extension chords are old high quality. Same with the jack stands. Lots more there, including a beautiful old vice he wouldn't sell. I might go back, his workshop was loaded.

The owner said I was welcome to come back at 6pm after the sale. So I sifted through for a while and found a few more gems. The air ratchet is new in box, the ball peen hammer is an old craftsman, as is the pry bar. The floodlight looks never used. I also took some boxes of fluorescent bulbs. And the Bosch heat gun is mint condition.

$2. They had other good stuff but it was drive by visit and I only had $2 in my pocket. Sale was too far to drive back later in the day. The parallels were hand made by whom ever the estate sale was for.

There were others but they had individual price tags. These were in a tool box with no pricing. They also had a cool all metal small parts box with 40+ drawers. Like the plastic ones with the small pull out drawers, but all metal...even the drawers. Must have been from the 40's or 50's. Each drawer was stuffed with small tools like taps and drills. Some other guy bought it for $30 or so.

I managed to go out to an estate sale during my lunch break yesterday... kept myself to a budget (just what cash I had on me). Scored a decent haul for $50 bucks!
Craftsman toolbox (crown logo), soldering gun in original box, Stilson pipe wrench, beam-torque wrench, three oil cans (one like new), Challenger chisel (like new, still has price on it), Craftsman nut-bolt hardware storage bins box (loaded with hardware goodies), and some misc stuff.
The crown jewel of my haul was the Wards Powr-Kraft toolbox full of... Powr-Kraft tools in like new condition! 1/2-inch drive sockets, ratchet and extensions, and a full set of metric combo wrenches in the original pouch... nothing seems to have seen much use. Heck, the price tag was still on the toolbox lid!

The Craftsman grey and red toolbox may be a nice restore project; the outside is the worst part. Inside the drawers is nice and clean paint and nice smooth drawer operation. Just a small amount of surface rust near the inside piano hinge area is all. I gave ten bucks for that box.

Great deal! That two drawer is well built, from a time (Late 60's-70's) that the Craftsman boxes were very well built. I had that guy's ten drawer big brother, packed it so heavy two strong men could not move it. It is still in use with a friend of mine in NC.

The pipe wrench is an actual Stillson? If so, that cool! (and fairly rare)

It is indeed a Stilson! I'll have to get a better pic of it.

Yup, that old Craftsman box is built like a tank! Wonder who was making boxes for Sears back then. Heck, that box is heavy empty... can't imagine picking it up full of tools!

lowbucktruck,
Great haul! I have a similar two-drawer Craftsman box that is begging for restoration. It's ugly, but It appears to have stayed square and true.

Your Powr-Kraft stuff has me REALLY interested... I'm building a collection of that stuff myself.

heres todays haul from 3 different sales. ZRX71 posted about one sale here yesterday but i had to make it my second stop since the line was outrageous and i had found something better down the street.

This place was a total nightmare! It was a big place, pitch black (the power had been turned off), super cramped and there was just stuff everywere. There was no hint of organization, just **** piled in mounds.

I was able to find some stuff near the mill/lathe area

The second sale was much easier to get around and i was able to score some really good stuff. The downside was that since i got the scraps, i know there were tons of good tools that i would of loved to have grabbed up.

This pile was only 55 bucks and its mostly Plvmb/Proto The socket in the far upper right corner is a very early Snap on. Files were 1 buck each, all new.
