Hello folks,
I'm bowing to the pressure of the banner that admonishes me to introduce myself. My name's Dave and since I don't want to be cured, I'm not going to take the first step and admit that I have a Garage Problem.
I started in 2000 with the permitting process. Actually broke ground in 2005.
Here's a picture of it going up in 2005:
My neighbor and I, along with friends and carefully-chosen contractors, did the digging, poured the floor, bolted together the skeleton and put on the skin. It has in-floor gas-fired radiant heat on an insulated 5-to-7 inch frost-walled slab. Electric is in and the wall's are insulated. The driveway has been repaved too. This was all done by 2007 at a point when I was taking a break from real life and had more time available.
At this point the garage is functional but still a work in progress. It's time to get the floor done, close-up the walls, and build-out the partial second floor. Now, though, I have no time and will need to contract out the rest to professionals. Not to mention that logistics are going to be difficult since there's lots of stuff in there that will have to move around or, temporarily, out.
I've been lurking on-and-off for a couple of years now. This forum is full of great insight and experience and great garages and has provided some great ideas. I look forward to being less of a lurker.
