Help! This monster has Snap On badges and is red but that's about all I can
tell you about it other than its built like a battleship with 1/8" steel everywhere.

sweet find! WANT! :) I know exactly where it would go in my shop.... Where abouts in the CFL are you?

I got the craftsman box from a freind of mine. I ended up restoring it and giving to my brother. I picked up the park box at a swap meet for 10 bucks with all the tools in the pic in it. It now sits on my main box.

Some kind of cool, but weighs a ton empty. My guess would be a purpose built
deal for manufacturing or rebuilding. Any ideas appreciated.

Wow!,,,, Just WOW!!! I hope someone can find info on it's origin and intended use. It's.... beautiful.

That's probably for a soldering iron...& it looks like it is next to the hot plate?

Yes,next to the hot plate, and soldering iron makes sense. As in one of those manly 2lb. irons with the wooden handle...

Somebody has to have some idea where this thing came from...

Overhead florescent fixture is on a trolley that rolls side to side.

Shoot,I thought my 65 vintage KRA 500/???/510 was the coolest?
CraneCamsstuff4-09076.jpg

This monster I shared above is more like a work station than a tool box.

No doubt it is a cool 'workstation', BUT, it would take a major commitment to restore this bad boy and as of YET, I don't own it..
Need get an idea of what it is before I commit to making an offer...

One of these just sold on ebay for $500...complete..not as nice as your restored one..gezz I would not even guess where to find the wood grain pannels for it...very cool:thumbup:

That thing is all sorts of cool. Love the overhead lights and the electrical outlets that are frenched in. No doubt, its USA made for sure even if its a custom one-off. Wonder what it weighs? Better put some extra heavy duty casters on it.

There's no hint of a data plate or metal stamping on it anywhere? We may need to call in some of the Snap-On archeologists to extract some DNA to help narrow down its blood line.

I'm not sold on its Snap On lineage and really doubt that anyone would go to this much work for a one-off deal. I'm imagining that it was built for a very specialized purpose. Not sure what to make of the extremely heavyweight/overkill construction but it kicked the casters @ss. Tires are really flat spotted from not moving for decades... Also the inside drawers
all show signs of having tags on them at one time.

I would place that item as older than the snap on badges would indicate. I think the rounded corners would indicate a 50's era.

Agreed, the SO badges seem to match my 65 vintage KRA 500 series but I have no idea how often they changed them up. No tease, I do NOT own this presently but am on a quest with the current owner to identify its origin.

Also,Im not so sure I'd want to put the fate of my nuts in the wifes hands...

I don't think its Snapon, very neat, maybe some kind of test or rework station from WW II era?

Top drawer looks like for parts, not tools.

Looks to me like a starter, generator rebuilding station.
Has a hot plate to warm bearings, soldering iron holder and lots of little storage spots for parts.
Perhaps some old loose parts could be found someplace in the bottom go get an idea.
Should be able to date the station from the electrical. The florescent lite ballast should be dated.
I could see the Government having Snap on making something like this for them.
What ever it is it is an awesome find.

I inherited this tool box from my Grandfather. He kept the price tag inside with the keys. I suspect he bought the box in the late 1960's and used it for the inside tools, never saw the barn. I wonder what that $66 would be in today's dollars? I have passed it on to my 9 year old son, to keep the tool tradition going.

I picked up another tool box today. Its a 1986 Snap-on KRA537D. I already have an older 79 KRA537A box just like it but I couldn't pass up the cool Ford truck mural.

Definitely dirty when I got it

Cleaned up and I replaced the lock with a matching lock to my KRL722 bottom box.

Picked this up off the curb a couple of years ago.
Stunk of mildew in the worst way , several hosings of WD-40 and riding in the back of my truck for a week and sitting in the sun finally cleared it up.

All the doors are lockable (or were). Bench top shows signs of some hard rubber or linoleum covering at one time.
004.jpg

receptacles seen here on the lower bench edge are mostly 2-prong,but one or
two have grounded outlets. (possibly replacements).
005.jpg

All the doors below the bench tops have jamb switches for florescent lights
hidden underneath the bench tops.

no idea on this round deal that opens to the back seen in these next two pics.

Some sort of hotplate on the top with cloth covered cord.

plumbed for air too.

That is cool. My take on it is that it was probably built for some sort of manufacturing line, or test dept. There were probably a bunch of these in some factory somewhere. They may have been made by Snap-On. We had weird stuff like this at work, before they went to using all Listas. Unfortunately I didn't get any of them:(

I would say no. The intermediate looks like a 20" not sure about the 2 drawer top and does the Proto have ANY drawers or is it a carry box?

Nice box but I hardly call a box from 1986 "vintage". For goodness sakes, I have underwear older than that! :)

That is about full individual retail, if you are buying all three boxes from one person at one time, I'd pay half that price but no more. Do you need those particular size boxes for a project or spot? If not, look around for a better deal on more storage for less $$$.. imo.

MBC top and bottom boxes dated 1971. Purchased pair off of Indy CL for $80. Had been on there for 3-4 weeks and seller said only 5 people had contacted with 0 coming to look at boxes. Lower box is 31-1/2 wide and 19 deep.
