More modifications!
I wanted to securely store all of the Wilde pry bars in the cart. I hit up Epstein’s site & bought one of each Wilde pry bars.
As you know, the size of the “Big Boy” pry bar handles won’t allow the lid to close… So I removed the bottom of the screwdriver storage area and added 2 inch angle for the correct depth. I had to make two sections due to the handle length differences.

Note: the center pry bar is 36 inches long!

The angle iron is threaded, and screwed in from the inside.

Thanks....
I just noticed with the camera angle, it looks like the 36" pry bar will drag.
Here is a 2X4 on the floor. So there is about 1.5" clearance.

Another mod...

I had an old K1LA lock for testing. It didn't take much filing to fit it in the HF lock hole. I then took a spare drawer lock tab and cut to fit.

I have to say I am more than impressed with the creativity here.

When working solely out of a cart, you have to be creative if you want to be organized and have a good amount of tools. For me, living at home still, I'm lucky I get to have a project let along a cart to put my tools in.

Btw,

Does anyone have an air tool rack? That's my next project

Ford guy, just noticed it looks like you have two drawer sections on your cart, is that right? I found your post on it, must have missed it when you posted. The pics are gone though, would you mind reposting one?

Sorry about that…I was cleaning my Photobucket account, and must have killed the links.
I bought two four drawer carts, and cut the top edge off the bottom drawer assembly. This allowed me to clear the four vertical corner angle supports. I also removed the floor of the screwdriver holding area after this pic was taken, since I planned on putting the big pry bars there.

Before I did that, I put some 1/4 inch angle iron in the base. This way, you don’t need a second wrench when replacing the casters. I replaced the caster bolts with 5/16 Grade 8 bolts. This angle iron is what the new “lower” drawer unit sits on.

Next was to tie the top & bottom drawer locks together with threaded rod. The threaded rod gave me adjustability…just in case.

I'll snap some pics with it all together tonite.

Man that is cool, yes please post pics together. I can't believe how finished it looks. So you cut the lip off the bottom one and took out the top, it almost looks like the top section sits in the bottom one? What did you use to cut the screwdriver sections out?

kapster;2903279 So you cut the lip off the bottom one and took out the top said:
The top section floats above the bottom, using the original lips that hang on the vertical supports. I used a high speed pnuematic cut-off wheel to make most of the cuts. This open section works well, 'cause I plan on adding a power outlet next to the bottom section's original lock hole. I picked up a 100th anniv Harley Emblem that will be mounted on the bottom box to cover the old lock hole. I had to drill and file the holes square to mount the bottom box to the vertical supports.
Here's the front, as of tonight...

Here's the back...

Another mod I'm working on is to close the corners in, at the drawer edges. Of course, it will be powdercoated in gloss black to blend in. (it is currently the light gray color angle iron)
P2110032_zps65ebdd24.jpg

As i posted earlier, I mounted an old Snap-On lock and got it working well. But I can't seem to leave it alone. I'm now looking at adding the locking rods I pulled from an old KRA4100 series top chest.

Looks awesome!! Has anyone measured to see if this is possible on the 5-drawer? OTOH, if done on the 5-drawer, total cost would be $340. That's almost the price of the 44". Lol. This is much more plausible on the 4-drawer as total cost is only $200. Never mind. Carry on, folks. :rocker:

I was measuring on mine and it seemed like the drawer sections are too tall to double. You would have to change the corner angle iron.

Finally got my side locker in. A few details thus far. I payed about $170 shipped from Sears. Item is made in Canada, handle is made in Japan. Metal is much thinner than the HF alternative, but doesn't feel flimsy (at least empty). It does not come with a rubber mat on the top like the HF one. Since it's made for International cabs, you'll have to drill your own holes. It comes with one shelf that you can move around. Enjoy some random pics, and please ignore the mess. You'll that I turned the 4 carriage bolts around on the side at the top to fasten the locker on. I also used the 2 bolts from the mid brace. I left the bottom 4 bolts as they are.

I like some of the fix ups here. It doesnt always got to be an addition like a tank to make it better, sometimes an angle in a shelf etc is enough. The pry bar idea is great, could carry thst idea even further. For those side lockers would get about the cheapest thing I could that the paint matched.

I got a cman side deal, had it forever originally on another set and put it on this Cman box that is only 27 inches wide. It holds way too much now but the top is too small. The little cab fixed it.

For a matching side locker, this is the cheapest I've found in this size. There's a cheaper Craftsman, but it's much smaller. This is actually going to hold all of my air tools, and I need to figure out what else. There will be a lot of dead space in the back of it, so I may recess an extension cord and mount a power strip somewhere. I may also make a side door on the locker to further access the back of it for what I have in mind. I have a bunch of aluminum coming in for my socket trays though, so I'll have to postpone any locker mods.

Im getting ready to do the prybar trick. I really like the screwdrivers on the left side, assuming because im left handed? Would it be wiser to put the prybars on the left with the folding shelf so i can use the space under the screwdrivers for other stuff? Not sure what but just wondered what you guys thought

If I was continiously standing in front of a box in a stall situation I could care less about what box held the stuff I didnt use, it would be all about the cart and the top of it , even quality drawers wouldnr be a big deal.

One of my buds did this, had about the cheapest tool box sears made to store all the irregular stuff, some days probably never opened it and some really hi use tools on a service cart, when he got done of 30 yrs of it will keep it, not worth selling, probably didnt spend but 1500 in hard line tools in a career.

I currently have my cart and my ancient Craftsman 26" stacker. Use everything in the cart daily, open the boxes once or twice a week. I'll need to get a real box down the line though, since the 26" boxes won't hold my straight edge, slide hammer, giant crescent wrench, etc.

SOP is two fixed and two swivel.

I've seen some come with 4 swivel.

All fixed is bad.

2 and 2 is the std. AFAIK for HF carts.

Mine has a pair of fixed and a pair of swivels. I thought the red 5 drawer came like that standard.

On the HF website they show 2 numbers for the red carts, a 95272 or 96397. Is there any diffrence?
The discription for the 95272 says fixed/swivle casters.
The discription for the 96397 says heavy duty air filled tires.
My receipt says 95272. I'll have to find a pair of swivles.
