I figured i would make a thread devoted to the tools and equipment i've restored and fabricated over the past year. The real project behind them is a 1950 Chevy 3100 i'm restoring, so the need for fabrication tools has risen. At 25 years old, this is my first go around with my own equipment, however i've been surrounded by it my entire life.

South Bend 9" Lathe. Unit was in good working order, just need come cleaning and adjusting.

Bead Roller. Started life as a Woodward fab unit. Ended up as you see it.

Parker Vise

Wilton Vise

Grinder Stand. Both units were fully restored as well. Model A flywheel and axle tube for stand.

Hoefer Mfg 13 Drill Press. Unit had excessive spindle run out, otherwise good shape.

Next up is the restoration of a 14" Delta metal band saw that gets frequently used, but first this Lista cabinet. Has some damage from a structure fire. Top drawer is unusable and top cabinet skin will be getting replaced. Only paid $100 for it though. I'm amazed at just how rigid the drawers are. Sad to say, but it makes my KRL drawers look like butter.

Excellent work. What method did you use to paint the raised lettering and were the metal plates (images 7-10) replaced, reprinted, cleaned up or what?

Wow, simply stunning work. :scared:

Well I feel extremely under accomplished now (You are just a year my senior).

Mind if I ask what you do for a living? Just curious where you gained those amazing skills at such a young age. I can't wait to see the lista cabinet all finished. Even given the damage I think that was a steal at $100.

EDIT, what type of paint do you use for your machines? I see you have access to a spray booth so......?

Great work,

Care to share any details on that belt sander?

X2 that's exactly what I need for my shop.

Very nice restorations, everything looks better than new.
It's always nice seeing a clean, organized shop too.

Thanks much for all the kind words gentlemen. I'll do my best to answer all questions asked.

Bluebolt- Im from the Appleton area of Wisconsin.

Softailgarage- The raised script was just painted free hand with a fine brush using a Dupont single stage off white color. The tag on the top cover was replaced, all the other ones are originals that were just cleaned up.

zkling- I restore Ferraris for a living. I've gained a wealth of knowledge in the past 4 years at my job. The paint is Rustoleum enamel. Its holding up good so far.

DannyD- The belt sander is a Kalamazoo unit, model S4. The motor has a brake on it which is nice to slow the belt down rapidly when its shut off. The top roller was in rough shape when i got it, so it was replaced.

mrboroachi- I used a self etching primer on all painted surfaces followed by the Rustoleum enamel.

zeke- The quill runout was not easy to fix. The head of it was pressed off the input shaft. A new head was made out of 41L40 with an undersized hole to accept a 3 Morse Taper insert.

Everything looks awesome, I wish I had the drive you have to accomplish restorations like that. It may be odd but, the thing that really caught my eye was the red color you used for the drill press. That thing came out amazing and It honestly looks brand new.

Haha. Well, the company i work for is called Motion Products. We've got a pretty outstanding track record of 100 point Pebble Beach cars, and im proud to be a part of that. I'm specifically involved with the component end of things ranging from gauges to generators to mechanical fuel pumps. We rebuild, reverse engineer, and recreate any and all parts as needed. Most of which is mind boggling not only in cost, but the level of detail.

Thanks again for the comments guys, its much appreciated.

"Gee Grandpa, yaidunno restores Ferrari's that become 100 point Pebble Beach concourse winners for a living, and in his spare time refurbishes and rebuilds old machine tools so that they're better than new! What did you do when you were his age?"

Umm, aah, well when I was 25, what I was doing was shoveling **** in Shanghai!

yaidunno, all I can say is.....

Let's see (many) more pics of your workplace and the Ferrari cars, of course!

Haha thanks, Omphaloskeptic. Heres a few more from work. Out of respect for the customers, i'll refrain from posting their cars. You can check them out online if you wish. M1 and M2 class winners last year. M2 winner in 2011 with the first made 250 GTO. Heres some great shots of the GTO (painted 30). We also restored years ago the blue and yellow one (painted 112) and it too was a class winner.

So on the resto parts you replicate in billet, do you finish them like the cast original or leave it alone (or polish or some finish)?.
