Great vise find. Of course I would love to see the jaw faces. As for the lathe purchase, kudos to you, in this forum you can get all the help you need on how to set up and run your lathe. Wish i knew you bought a lathe before mailing your Prentiss # 20 pin, I would have added a few lathe bits. Share you lathe pictures.

Kevin

I will post detailed pictures after I get it home tomorrow.

As far as the Lathe tools go you probably don't have any small enough. This is one of those little hobby things a Craftsman/Atlas 101 6"X18" I will try to post something outside the vise thread.

I need to summons the Guru's. There is a Parker swivel jaw on E-bay right now. Can someone tell me if it has a slide within a slide, and why the main slide is half the length of the screw? Never seen one with that configuration. Thanks.

Brother Grouseman---I'm not a GURU, or a Gurette, more like a gurette bud, but, if what you are refering to is the pictured vise...

What you are looking at is the squared off end of the swiveling/Static jaw...

I've been watching that wee beastie for a while, but his price is way out of line...

Would be a really nice vise, when restored, but not $ 425.00 + freight nice...

thats not it, the one he's asking about either has a cut off slide or a too long replaced lead screw. only guess'in though. i'd try and find it in the ad data base and see how far it opens then message the the guy and ask him. good luck.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-Par...976?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ac92948f8

also looks like some weld hot spots on the slide where the flat stock is hanging out.

Yea, that's the one Wrenchguy, but I don't think it will do any good to ask the seller. They said in the description they weren't experts and to go by the pictures. It's a new one me. If it's original, I'd like to know what the little slide does.

So Autopts you think a couple of inches are missing on the slide? That sounds about right. But how does that bar reinforce? Iv'e never seen that before. I'd like to see one of those ad posters on that thing.

Yep Oldidh, we have walking encyclopedias here with the Journal. Autopts and B100 are top tier Gurus. Thanks gentlemen, I sure learned something here tonight. I'd never seen that bar on a parker before. I knew it wouldn't take long to get some answers. Ask and ye shall receive. Mr. B100, you must have a chart on every vise ever made.

Who knows?
I know where one of those is for sale locally. The seller thinks it is homemade due to what looks like flat strap used for the top. I need to find his add again.

Your vise is very interesting. Thanks for sharing. You peaked my interest so I checked out ebay au and found a lot of interesting vintage vises (Perth, Dawn, Carter, etc). I also saw a 4" cross drill press vise that reminded me of my Enco drill vise without the cross feature. Unfortunately, Shipping would be a deal killer for me.

Without a photo hard to say but $100 for any decent Wilton with a swivel base is a nice price in my book.

Here's the picture I got. I think some of the ledge under the jaws is broken off?

Re: Ridgid 80SN 8" & Morgan 80 8" vise.

Visual difference between a ridgid 8" & morgan 8". Ridgid is bigger but i think the morgan is heavier. Lead screw on morgan is 1 1/4" dia. and ridgid is 1 1/2" diameter. I got 'em apart to cleanup and paint. Is it ok to clean up the casting parting line better than factory? Actually i want to polish the castings. thanks 4 looking.

Re:parker 25 X

Parker 25x, 5 5/8" w/ nice jaws. NEED lead screw, nut and swivel base 4 this vise. Lead screw should be about 24" total length by 1" diameter. Another 1 under $25.00, couldn't pass it up. thanks 4 looking.

Columbian D45-M4 home-use quality Swivel Mount Vise. 5" Jaws, opens to 7" A lot of degreasing needed to start with this one but the metal is in fabulous shape as you can see.

Picked up my first Bullet today, a 5", looks to have been welded on. He was asking $70, I offered $50 thinking he would meet in the middle but he accepted. :willy_nil

Beautiful specimens Wrenchguy. Any 8 inch grabs my attention. The Morgan weighs 210 lbs., whereas the Ridgid weighs about 180 lbs.. The Ridgid is a rebranded Columbian #608. The difference is how there cast. If you flip a 608 or a Rigid 8 inch upside down you see just how hollow the towers are, verses the Morgan 80, which is smaller but cast with much heaver/thicker tower walls. That little old woman in the commercials would look into a 608 or Ridgid 8'' and say where's the beef. Never the less, I use a Columbian 608 every day, and I love the thing. But I'd a whole lot rather it be Ridgid 8''. Now don't that sound stupid. But it's the truth.

Thanks, what you note above is why i mentioned the weight differences. I didn't really know how to describe it and knew someone would chime in.
thanks again.

Well it's definitely the right color for $50 but I am pretty sure that is still a "you ****!" Even if it does need some TLC

I'd buy it....Wish it had a swivel base. but worth the $ IMHO

I would buy it and whats next to it. If thats another one I might buy it too.

Maybe you could sell one to us. I have one that has be welded up but I think they are good vises.

The hunt for my massive Wilton bullet continues.... (((I have should have just purchased one on Ebay instead of spending $$$ on several)))
so here's the new Wilton that I got on Craigslist....
ry%3D400

If you notice on the vise it is missing the the numbers on the tape measure strips, its cause when i used simple green to clean the Vise it stripped the paint... that was disappointing but such is life...

then i found this Wilton Bullet the other day and was sooooooo excited... I was at work and had a buddy pick it up for me the pics on Craigslist looked great... after I got it and took a closer look I decided to play a game I call take a shot every time I find a weld on the vise... before I passed out I counted 15 spots..... Okay maybe not but a few spot on the swivel base and unfortunately on the spindle thingy but for a Vise I think is from the 40's it super smooth and still cool to have a piece of history in the garage.
ry%3D400

think the date of the 5year warrenty says 1946? so that means it was made in 1941? but not sure to be honest...
ry%3D400

then I hit it with a wire brush... bare metal is sooo pretty
ry%3D400

ry%3D400

ry%3D400

The welds....:scared:
ry%3D400

ry%3D400

paint time
ry%3D400

Hard to tell the color it's the metallic rustoleum color
ry%3D400

The collection grows...

I thought I'd share my first Wilton Bullet! I got it for $5, only to rescue it from the owner and let it Rest In Peace. I seen it holding up the "please save me sign!" with a tear. Remember friends, don't turn a back to injustice - adopt a pet that's in need.

You know, I'd restore it broken jaw and all - leave the broken jaw in raw steel. Mount it somewhere as a conversation piece.

That is a parts donation Wilton, if I ever saw one...

Somewhere there's a Wilton that needs a widget, and you've got one...

Get them together!!!

It's your duty, Bubba...
