Calling the electricians! Marley/ Fahrenheat FUH5-4 heater wiring

Hello everyone!

I have 2 heaters which I want to wire with a switch in series with the thermostat. These heaters do not have on/ off, just a low temp setting . I was told by Marley (Unofficially) to wire a switch in series with thermostat to bypass the heating element, but still retain the heaters safety feature - fan continues to run after element shuts off to allow cooling off of the hot element. This is a safety feature and prolongs the life of the unit.

Question is, do I just use a 120v single pole switch. Between the L1 bank and thermostat? I am not aware of a 240v single pole switch. If it is 120v, does it need to be high amp rated?

Thanks to all! I posted the wiring diagram too.

The thermostat just cuts one leg. A 20A 120V single pole switch will work if the unit only needs a 20A circuit. Use a switch that matches the circuit amps.

It's a 20a heater. Circuit is 30a. Am I better off with 30a switch then? Also, I went online to Menards and see 20a amp 120v switches for $6 and some for $35..... What is the cost differential here?

Worth buying the 30a more expensive ones for any reason?

Thanks

This is the switch I used for mine (Fahrenheat FUH5-4). Same purpose you mentioned - toggling the thermostat on and off but leaving power to the heater so the fan can run to cool it down:

I used 10 gauge wire to connect the switch.

Go to the Heating and A/C forum on this site and search for "Installation of Dayton G73 Heater with Cutoff Switch and Thermostat" and read post #48 for a description on how to wire it.

Hope this helps!
