I recently found this site. I would like to share my garage build up. The basic specs are:

26 x 24
One bay completely open for potential lift install
One Bay covered by second floor loft for storage/loft space.
future lift install.
I have 100amp service, cable, ethernet, and phone.
I sealed the concrete with using ucoatit.

The exterior is completely designed by my wife, while the interior is slowly being transformed into what I want. She told me in the beginning "Do whatever you like to the inside, but I have final say on the outside". It is funny how when it came time to make budgetary decisions the inside 'extras' where nixed in favor of exterior asthetics, and I was suddenly benefitting since I could insulate and hang the sheetrock myself! :headscrat

First floor framed

Second Floor framed

I have been working for the past 4 months hanging and finishing the sheetrock myself. The progress is VERY slow. I am now 95% complete

Here are some inside shots:

Once I get the loft painted and setup I'll get some more pics. I need to finish the storage, so I can get the junk off the shop level and work down there.

Thanks. As it was I still needed a variance from the county for height. Around here detached garages cannot exceed 12 feet without a variance. I hope to have some finished interior shots in the next month or so.

Thanks for the compliments. My wife's brother is an architect and he did the plans for us. Once I have finished the inside work and have everything organized I will start mapping out/planning for a lift. I'm leaning towards a 2 post. I have been searching and reading all the posts in this forum and on Pirate4x4 to learn about others experiences with both 2 and 4 post lifts. The lift project will be very slow as I will be getting into wheelin' season soon and will be too busy going to trips and fixing the Jeep to work in the garage. Of course, that is when I will need it the most :lol_hitti

Looks Great!

It looked like you were going to have a sky lite in the first set of pictures. Did you change your mind or was that just a piece of sheeting just yet installed?? I used the same fan you put in they really move the air on high!

The hole was just a piece of sheething they left off so they could access the roof from the inside. Yeah, that fan is something else! I currently heat with a Kerosene heater and when I run that fan on low it moves enough air to keep the heat evenly distributed between the loft and the shop floor. In the summer it really keeps the air moving and helps to cool things down.

Good Taste

Love your roof line AND the excellent choice in siding (ha - guess I'm prejudiced)
 Seriously - you did a beautiful job - matches your home perfectly!

Phil,

Thanks. I like the standing seam metal roof on yours. I actually pushed for that a little because I like the look and the sound of rain hitting it. It reminds me of when I was a kid in my Dad's garage.

I'm impressed how well the arch of the garage door opening matches the arch of the windows in the garage door! I'm assuming you didn't have the doors on hand when you were framing. Nicely done!

Thanks for the compliments. I did not build this, so I cannot take credit for the construction; only the design concept.

So what is the next project for the garage?

Painting the ceiling has always been on the top of my list; as is finishing the ceiling in the 'truck side'. I like the white since it keeps everything bright. My immediate project is to add another light to each bay. I also need to finish running my air lines. I have partial runs to the loft, work bench and one right by the lolly column in the center. I really don't need more than the two I finished, but it would be nice to have one upstairs and one right on the work bench. I'm treating air drops like I did the outlets; there can never be too many! :):)

I recently started using the forum again and want to update my build thread...

It has been 15 years since I built this garage. I've done some changes to the layout mostly to accommodate moving from a 1/2 ton to a 3/4 ton truck. Over the years the cabinets needed rebuilding and the fridge was replaced. I'm still bench pressing transmissions into the jeeps since I don't yet have a lift and I'm working with Jack stands STILL!

Here are some more recent shots...

In the past 15 years, I've restored the first ever Jeep I bought; a 1991 YJ. Sold in 2004, bought back in 2012...

off to paint

I bought a 1995 Jeep YJ to restore for my wife:

Son's first Jeep (06 LJ) needed some work too:

I finally 'embraced' modern Jeeps with my 10th Anniversary Rubicon.

And my 2003 F150 has been replaced with a 2017 F250 King Ranch!

Great looking great. Well thought out so it matches the house.

The second floor doesn’t show from the street. Is there a room at the front window on the second door?

Yes, the floor of the loft goes back to the window; I use it as a storage area for folding tables and, of course, Jeep parts! lol.

Awe, jack stands aren't that bad. (Unless they are harbor freight)
At least they can be put out of the way when not in use.

Nice jeep collection you have.

Yeah, you are right. I was glad to have Torin 6 tons when I read about that recall! I still went out and re-checked my castings to make sure the teeth are evenly cast and everything engages well. After supporting the past 4 jeep projects and countless hours pulling, pushing, and yanking on transmissions while laying underneath, I think they are good! They even hold up my Super Duty while I rotate the tires.

I checked out your garage!:drool::drool:

Sadly, my Jeep count is down to 1 unless I count my son's. I'm in the process of locating a 51 m38 flat fender to restore next.

Oh, so you sold the two YJs?

I'll keep my eye out for an M38.

Yup, sold the red 91 since my wife objected to our son driving a jeep without airbags. He did pay for the 91 originally, so the money we got went into the sliver LJ. The white 95 my wife kept for three years, but in the end she did not drive it much. We sold it to my brother who still drives it and goes wheeling with us now. Appreciate the extra set of eyes; the flat fender M38s are hard to find.
