Where did you find all of these? The four Reeds should be gone tonight, everyone who's been looking for a high end vise for little money should be all over these.

I bought these from a company that works on railroad instrumentation in PA. Guy said they were older so they just replaced them. Many years of life left in these. Some barely look used. Note: unless I'm mistaken, the paint is original on the Reed's. These things are HEAVY duty. I'd keep them (and have for close to 2yrs) but there's only so many vises you can have.
Also, note #1 Reed has already been sold.

What the heck! I thought all those would be gone by now! Especially the 4 bolt base number, I think that one is particulartly sharp looking myself.

Even with shipping I do not think his price is bad. Those of BMW's have great jaw inserts, most like new. Even though they are fixed bases you could not tough one new for anywhere near his prices.

where in NJ? I'll be in Philly next week and could cross on over to the dark side to pick one of the Reeds up (#2 because BonJovi belongs on the stero, not a vise!....

If I did not already have a good heavy one like this it would have done been gone by now! I love that unique 4 bolt base it has too. Even now I am somewhat tempted.

You best pull the trigger if you do not have a big one like that. I promise you will kick yourself! First, you will never find one that looks quite like that one again. (I know I have never seen a vise with a base like that) and I doubt many others here have either!
I am telling you, if I did not already have three machinist vises I would have pulled the trigger on that one a long time ago. Best looking one of the lot.

Anybody got any pointers on how to refinish a vise like this? I want to remove the old paint and repaint it as close to OEM as possible.

Hmmm. Maybe chemical stripper? But that might mar the non painted metal.
Or HF blasting pot?
