It looks like there's no easy way to separate the dynamic and static jaws from each other on those. I like that vise though. I've never seen one so thanks for posting them Zoomie and Getridaone.

Someone on here asked for better pics so here you go...AND I found me a stump!

What I LOVE about these big swivelers is that once greased they are so heavy they swivel like they are on ball bearing!

Joe: "someone" was me and you didn't want to lift it to the kitchen so happy to see you found a stump. very nice and you can ask $100 more now or let the bidding begin and maybe get more if you put stump in the ad. it really looks a lot better on the stump out in the yard/driveway than it did on your workbench. not sure if you are as quick as Balane because you didn't say how long it took you to spiff that one up, but your quality is improving on every vise.

Balane: i think we found a solution to your stump disappearing. i'll keep an eye out for some old growth cedar and you get your shovel sharpened up to bury it in your yard at the optimum height. or put a new stump in the garage next to or under that anvil you bought.

Get: thanks for posting your awesome Holland's vise like Zoomie's. i was going to say rivets, but those might be the biggest rivets I've seen on a vise before so i held back. thanks for the information.

how's retirement??

I am repainting every light fixture on the outside of the house right now. My wife seems to have an endless lists of honey do projects. I might have to go back to work to get some rest.
Break time is over, paint is dry so let's go hang two more back up and take two more down.

Joe, that first picture shows the mirror finish great.

A nice old Reed, Parker, Wilton...etc are great and must haves in a collection of vises. But the oddball or different vises are so cool.

VA, I really like the brass and stainless vises, and you have shown some other really nice stuff over the years.

Zoomie and Get, never saw those before, great vises.

And Joe, nothing oddball about your vise, but the finish is definitely distinct. All that shining must have been a lot of extra work, but I am pretty sure someone is going to want to pay good money to have a nice vise like that. (plus you have a stump now, you are in the bigs)

JZiggy,

Oops, is this the one you meant?

I think I recall other "KARAS ELECTRIC CO CHICAGO" vises being posted, but I think this is the one you meant at least...

Take Care!

Zoomie: i do like the patina on your Kara's vise and i might have mentioned one of my daughter's name is Kara so i'm on the lookout for one. just curious because on your vise that looks like brass on the dynamic so is there a big braze weld holding a previously broken dynamic jaw together? or is that just more of the cool patina?

DIF,

It's just patina (rust) and bad lighting (photography), she's solid (for a little ******).
Kara is a beautiful name, well done!

Take care!

Joe.Striper,---An awesome job on the Parker.---Now you have entered an elite group of vise restorers, such as the South Dakota 978, restored by a member in Arizona I think, or Wrench's Stars and Stripes, and a select few more.---The only problem is, when you make them that pretty, you upgrade them all the way to worthless.:bounce:

VA: as a tool. just finishing your sentence big guy. hell Joe hasn't said he's going to keep it so that's not his problem if it goes on a shelf.

Zoomie: very very nice patina on your Kara and mine just a bit cuter. she's the one in front in her wheelchair. picture taken about 4 years ago at my 39 year old step son's home. thanks

Outlaw: you could have stopped before the last picture or made her the size of the middle one and the middle one twice as big as the monkey.

cheers all

Picked up a Yost 33C via Craigslist yesterday. It needs a Handle and the Swivel Locks are stuck fast.

I've been squirting PB Blaster into the Swivel Locks. Anybody with suggestions on freeing them would be appreciated.

If anyone has knowledge of the diameter and length of a Yost 33C's Handle I would appreciate that information.

So what you're saying is I need to drag my vises out to one of the 8 stumps I have around my property? I think I can do one vise per stump. Lol

A stump per day will keep the doctor away

Scott: sorry i don't own a Yost so i can't give you the 411 on the handle, but a call to Yost since they are still in business and might be still selling a version of that vise might get you what you need. or they might have specs on their web site. do you have the vise tipped on it's side or upside down spraying PB on the swivel bolts? you can dip it in a bucket of vinegar to loosen it up and loosen the rust too, but make sure you wash it off and dry off because any vinegar sitting on cast iron will eat it.

Regardless of one's politics and presuming you meant stump speech or similar, that is GREAT stuff there, Outlaw!! :lol_hitti

I could have put ANY politician up, but I figured two blonds for a fair comparison...

Drives; sorry man I just used links...

Scott; Measure the hole and you have it for the Dia, required. Sorry I can't help with the length...

Just curious but what did you have to give for this yost. There are 3 for sale in my area..... fly over country... but they want a kings ransom for them . I need ammo to argue them down

topop101,

$80

This is the 5-inch model. It is missing the handle. The swivel locks are/were* frozen. It's probably a 21st century vise - the fellow I bought it from said it was bolted onto the bumper of a truck. If I recall correctly, he said the truck was a 2007.

* I just got one of the Swivel Locks to break loose. One to go.

Best regards,

Scott

Bagged: BEE CAREFUL because I see you don't have your Wilton bullet bolted down holding that "stump" and your newly painted Reed. gotta give you an A+ for effort, but with your computer skills the small stump girl picture enlarged might have been more popular.

Scott: one down one to go.

ALL: i'm guessing the Dems are doing their cold calling duties from local cell phone #'s and not watching our thread tonight. cheers

Here's another "stump"er:

WTF Vise.jpg

Finger Vise 2.jpg

Finger Vise 3.jpg

Finger Vise 4.jpg

Finger Vise 5.jpg

Currently on eBay, really interested but the vise funds aren't quite there right now

The seller says that each of those "fingers" in the rear jaw has about 3/*" of independent movement and that they firm up with steel shot housed under the "please don;t use me as an anvil" portion.

Anyone have any info on this???
