The drawer slides look the same as those on my 1957 or so Craftsman box
The thing is HEAVY, much heavier than my Snap On KRA300, I can bear hug and pick up the Snap On, not a chance with this box. I even pulled the bottom drawer just to make sure the bottom wasn't full of junk adding to the weight.
The slides have newer style black clips, the kind Waterloo sells as replacements today.
I pulled all the drawers, flipped the box all over, gave it a good cleaning but can't find any signs of any numbers or markings.
A few things that I noticed that may be a clue is the way the corners are formed and the presence of a mid brace across the middle much like a Snap on box. It has double rear lock rods. The outer shell is as heavy or heavier than my Snap On, but the drawers are more like those on an older Mac box.

Iron: i can't recall who made the Mac and Proto boxes but it might have been Waterloo. sounds like you have a good one whatever company made it. nice find and post up a few more pictures as you have time.

Post a picture of the drawer slides and the edge of the drawer (to see the folds). The 30" width is obscure.

Here's a pic of the drawer and slide.
Sheet metal wise, its on par with a Snap On, maybe even a bit heavier.
The drawer pulls are square edged with no logo.
The box measures 30 3/8" wide, 20 1/4" deep, and 34" tall.

The underside has two left to right cross members, which are duplicated inside the box facing upward.
The lip around the top edges is triple thick, it consists of the side panel, top panel, and inner side panel all coming together to form the top edge. There is also an under support to gusset the top edge. There is also two braces to reinforce the top panel on the inside. The box is double walled on all sides with the side walls being about 2" thick, and the rear panel consisting of in inner and outer panel with the inner panel being formed and cut to guide the lock rods.

I really like this box, I wish it had a matching top. Its built like a tank.
I like the drawer face style better than my Snap On since it makes for larger drawers.

Where the sides meet the front they overlap the front metal, with visible welds around the edges of the tabs that extend further across the face about an inch.
I read that Waterloo marks its lower boxes on the lower panel on the right front but there's nothing on this box. There's also nothing on the rear and no decals or stampings on the inside that I've seen.

Color wise its a brighter red compared to Snap On red or even Craftsman red.
Old Snap On red is more orange, as are the Craftsman reds. It also looks well painted. Most likely a good cleaning and polish job will make this thing look pretty good. There's not a lot of paint loss and no rust.
I weighed the box and got 267 lbs on a digital game scale.
In comparison, an empty Snap On KRA307B weighed in at 183lbs.

Interesting...especially the weight. If I had to guess, I would say it came out of waterloo's medical/industrial division.

I was thinking maybe it came out of a lab or R&D department or something, we have a lot of glass manufacturing plants in the area.

Possibly, I was more so talking of the maker. Waterloo has a medical/clean industrial division that produces boxes specific to that market. Pretty heavy duty, very clean and plain Jane features (ex handle and lack of badge, typically a sticker instead).

I've posted a few of my old boxes in the other thread, but it's been awhile. I've been working on some old kitchen cabinets for my walls and it's now too cold to paint any more so I figured I'd post 'em here.

Here's a shot of most of the stuff so far. On the walls (and the lower that's in the corner) are old Lyon metal kitchen cabinets. I've gotten a bunch from two different sellers on CL and am in the SLOW process of painting them all to match and hanging them.
IMG_7994_zpsfqdpqnyj.jpg

Some more Lyon cabinets. The blue one on the floor is a Huot Tuldex. Of course, you might notice a couple block grinders too. :D
IMG_7993_zpsui7bnxe6.jpg

These are Remlines. I've posted about them elsewhere on the forum. The one on the left is what started my "old junk" obsession, hence the colors on everything else. The lower on the right is the only one not repainted.
IMG_7995_zpszhwp2hon.jpg

The are the three Huot chests that I built the workbench around, shown with the flaps down. Peeking out in the corner is a Huot middle chest, visible in the first pic too.
IMG_7996_zpsgkghatkf.jpg

I have nine more Lyon uppers waiting to be cleaned and repainted so I think I'm set for awhile. :bounce:

Looks like it's made by the same company that made them for Snap On, maybe MBC? zkling will know.

I didn't realize Snap On had others build their boxes back then?

The sides on that Yorktown are narrower than a Snap On, if its a full 26" wide box, its likely got wider drawers.

Yes they did and ZK will want pics of the slides, to verify.

I instantly thought MBC built as well.

Are there "dividers" (actually drawer stiffeners pretending to be dividers...) in the big drawers?

Yeah, I've seen yorktown, not super common. Not made by snap on or MBC. Decent boxes.

Kinda skeptical on the 31" width, certainly don't agree with it being as good as or better than snap on, but for the price, it's worth it.

I picked up these four Cole Steel cabinets from the local newspaper that were used in their darkroom. Due to chemical spills, etc. there is some clean-up necessary as well as light sanding to remove surface rust, but they're complete and in great shape. Best part....they were free! :bounce:

All four have bases, but only one (top-right) is shown...I do have the other three. These will be great mounted up under a workbench or even on the wall, haven't decided yet.

Curtis is long gone...got those cabinets from a friend who was downsizing. The awl came from a garage sale, melted but probably still warrantable! I am very familiar with the Durham cabinets, wish I could afford a whole room full of them LOL

I can relate. stuffed 2 20' sea cans & a 20' Ryder rental full, & left for a better place. Still trying to get unpacked!

This might help cool u down.
Just f.y.i. the snow .on the roof happened over the last 2 nights. I keep the roof shoveled off otherwise the build up gets scary. Late last winter I had 9 feet of snow on one part of my roof where it had drifted up. (1 & 1/2 story house)

Here's a few more pics of the drawer removed. The rear of the drawer has a loop spot welded on the back much like an old gray/red craftsman, but the cabinet style is totally unique.

That definitely looks like a box made for a medical institution.

Was offloading garden waste at the dump today,

... and I spotted some castors poking out of the scrap metal pile.

They were connected to this.

Dump%20Toolbox%202%2001b_zps60vnbmmo.jpg

Dump%20Toolbox%202%2002b_zpsfegd7l3r.jpg

Now its pretty obysmal looking - compared to stuff in this thread ... but since it has Shepherd brand castors on it ... I'm hoping one of you blokes may be able to ID it ??

... of course it could be just US castors on an aussie made toolbox / photocopier stand tho ??

Rough dimensions are about 3' wide, 2' high, 18" deep. Used to have a lid once upon a time, with a std file cabinet/toolbox type lock, and theres a metal nametag holder under the lock.

Its a mix of weld and rivet construction.

In any case it will get a new set of castors and a lid/benchtop ... and a paint job according to its worth .. ;);) ... extra tool cart or maybe a lube cart - may be its new life

Friend of mine gave this to me 25 years ago it belonged to is father, I used it for about 15 years, the rivets were replaced with bolts and nylon lock nuts, the original latches were also replaced. I just recently sold it for $50.00...

Cosmos: i have several of those old cantilever boxes and even though they hold litterly a ton of tools they are not easy to work out of or carry around. i suppose dragging them out from under a bench and working out of them on the floor might have been why they were made because on a bench it's hard to see in the bottom or you have to have almost a clean bench to have enough room to use them.

Carves: can't say i've seen one of those before. how heavy is it? let us know what you plan to use it for and maybe snap a few more pictures then. or maybe one of your neighbors will stop in to share their thoughts about it.

Carves. are the rails a fit for Legal Pendaflex folders? Is the depth right? I'm thinking a (LARGE) portable file rack originally?

Definitely could be re-purposed!

Outlaw.. holy cow could you imagine what that would cost new today.... my wallet hurts just thinking about it...lol..

I picked up some items including this cabinet from an Indy Public School auction today.. They own the former Indy Coke plant where they've done maintenance to their school bus fleet for years.. but now with them outsourcing their school bus operations, they're clearing that building for disposal..

Here is the cabinet I purchased.. super neat heavy duty and historic olive drab.... The OD 3 drawer on top came from my wife's Uncle Ray's estate and probably came from the same maker (almost identical size / footprint
