I still don't get it. You go onto one of the computers and look up the price check app. and just randomly type in things you think you want and hope you find a penny item or something with a price ending in the 75 off catagory?

You won't find penny items. Search for "Dewalt" then filter for "clearance items". You'll figure it out from that point.

Thank you.

I'm sure the smartasses a couple weeks ago to my reply had come across this in their hundreds of hours of reading this forum and research and just didn't want to give a link to this thread...

You can just leave the search bar blank and hit search. It will pull up EVERYTHING starting at .01

Yep. That's the first time this has come up in this thread.

Thank you Jeff95TA for the quick reply. I just joined this site and I hadn't had time yet to read the whole thread before I ran to HD.

And thank you HDRob for this information. It is sad that people can't help themselves and just talk shxt.

Also thank you rocket1420 for the useless response. You are the type of person that prevents good people from wanting to join these threads.

Where in the store do I go? I don't see a customer kiosk anywhere, just customer service. An associate informed me to use the home depot app on my smartphone.

Should I be taking items with the "2 or 3" ending to the Price Check? Or should I be starting at the price check?

I finally found a Home Depot with a computer I can use. I searched everything I was mildly interested in in the search and hit the clearance. Found nothing at a penny. I did find a screw driver set for 2 dollars, but I couldnt find it in the tool aisle.

So, back to the original question. Should I start by looking for the yellow tags with the right digits? Or start at the Price Check?

Lol, to heck with Harbor Freight. They're on my blacklist now. If I need a Made in China tool, I'll buy it from Home Depot, and yes that includes Power Tools.:evil::p:beer::thumbup:

I agree with you there. I haven't bought from HF in over 5 years. When I was just starting to build my tool collection, most of the stuff I bought was from HF because they're cheap.

But now, knowing what I know about HD, Lowes, and Amazon deals, I'll never buy from HF again. Still trying to weed out some Chinese tools in my tool box. Replacing everything with quality USA and German brands.

I will admit though, the socket sets that I bought from HF 10 years ago are still holding up, even after hard abuse in a Navy submarine.

Since you mentioned
'...even after hard abuse in a Navy submarine.'
Is there the same, Harsh salt air environment, IN a sub, as there is in surface fleets?

tip, don't ever let an HD employee grab a penny item away from you. I discussed it with corporate, and it is official HD policy to let customers purchase penny items.

Print this out and keep it in your pack pocket:

Dear Mr. xxxx,

Thank you for contacting The Home Depot Customer Care Team.

It was a pleasure to speak with you today. Below is a brief description
of our conversation:

(1) I advised that I contacted an associate named Aurora at the Pro
Desk of the xxxxx Home Depot store. She confirmed that the computer
that is marked "Public" can be used by our customers to check order
status or search for Home Depot product availability on our website

(2) Your asked if I could mail you a response to your question. I
advised that I contacted you personally to ensure that you receive the
information and asked if you had any additional questions or concerns.
I advised I would immediately send you an email with the information we
discussed.

This does not seem to address whether penny items can be purchased by customers. Also- it seems that we can look at HD.com for order status or product availability. - not the Price Checker App. - Am I missing something?

Why? it does not address the penny item at all. I can only imagine the confusion this will create. It would be like handing a police officer your Sam's club id when he asks for a DL.

Good to see you back posting, btw.

Woops sorry guys, yea I got confused about that. I was reading some other post about being kicked off the computers, but quoted a different post.

Anyhow, I do have communications with HD corporate about purchasing penny items. Let me see if I can find their emails to me about that

Over here....
Thought I'd take a whack at it recently.

A rep didn't like me at the computers that were facing the aisle. And I wasn't even looking for penny stuff. I only wanted to price the items in my list (garden shed build) rather than walk the whole store and getting prices for the build. (bum knee)

No one could answer if I could get delivery for the lumber if *I* pull it for my build either. A couple of lost eyed guys did say if they pull it, they could deliver it. I just want the best lumber since I'll be building in stages that suit my time and I do not want crappy twisted curved knotty junk.

Does anyone know why Home Depot / Office Depot / Dollar General / etc mark their clearance to a Penny to begin with?

My understanding is all 3 of these large national companies (and maybe more?) will destroy their merchandise once it is marked to a penny.

Target for example goes to 70% then donates the items to charity for a tax writeoff. Lowes keeps marking their stuff down until 90% off, sometimes 95% until it sells. Staples marks their stuff down to 50% and sometimes farther before sending it to liquidators. Same story with Best Buy.

I imagine this has to do with taxes in some way however maybe someone can explain why this is done to begin with. Why not just send it to a liquidator like other companies or why dont they just keep marking it down further and put it in the front of the store like other stores do?

Who takes the loss on this when they mark it to a penny? Is it taxpayers? Is it the manufacturer? The company itself? It just seems silly to me.

Question:

If I price check something at a scanner will it show as a penny or do I need to go to self checkout to do this?

In Mass, those scanners will show it as a penny. If it says "item not found", it will say that at the SCO too.

Love those scanners in Mass.

stay out of any stores north of Quincy.

(kidding)

Might be a problem since I'm on the North Shore.

Only ever got one penny deal by shear luck got a bunch (6 or 7) of workforce bit sets for a penny. The cases they came in were more useful then the bits themselves.

Take a look at HomeDepotRob's post #6 at the beginning of this thread.
