I like that RemLine roller!
I found the top box for that earlier this year. Different badge, but same drawer pulls.

What ever skidsteer is in the background , I feel sorry for you back then. Can't tell if it's a 30 series with the cab pulled or a damn 825.

it's a 632 with the cab pulled.

it was my "project" for about 6 months.

the chaincase to mainframe bolts came loose, and wallowed the holes out. i welded them all up, made them all round again, and bolted everything back together.

btw FU for ever wishing an 825 on me :lol_hitti

i hated those machines... and we still had a LOT of them running around back then.

I bought this old Mac box more than 30 years ago. It's still in good shape, and gets used regularly

John Coe lived in Jamestown, NY, which is 20 miles from Sherman, NY, which is where Duplex Mfg Co was located. Duplex Mfg Co had wartime multiple contracts with the US Army Ordnance Department for these toolboxes and sold them hand over fist. All of them still had the 1926 patent stamped or embossed on them.

Here are some photos of one:

Here’s another one, owned by GJ member, zepher.

Duplex_Box_03.JPG

And here’s one from the 12th Armored Division’s website.

tool_box3.jpg

I suspect that box was made for Snap-On by Duplex. Snap-On did supply tookits to the US Army Ordnance Dept during the war, as well as the US Army Air corps, and the Navy. But I have never seen an OD box of this type with anything but a Duplex stamp on it.

As a now-Displaced Lesser Native Son of NE Pennsyltucky (born and raised in Palmerton, in Carbon County...now living down the shore, by way of many other worldwide locations), old enough to remember when A-Treat and Horlacher beer were delivered to the front porch in the same wooden case, when the name “Bonney” rolled off the lips of oldtimers hanging around garages, machines shops, and foundries with the same sort of reverence given to Mack trucks and Martin guitar, who still considers Mario Andretti the best race car driver – any surface, any car –of all time --- I REALLY wish you would tell me where this thrift shop is!

The last picture of the GI's working on the GP say it all. Their grand kids asked, "what did you do in the war grandpa?" I'm sure that they said, "nothing, just worked on vehicles".

Bad hair cuts, scratchy wool clothes and working on the ground under vehicles that are beat to death in a French or German barnyard with the contents of a small tool kit to bring them back to life.

God bless each and every one.

I saw several neat toolboxes at an estate sale outside of Salt Lake City yesterday that I had to share. I didn't buy them because they were priced a bit high and I was traveling home by airplane. Enjoy!

Blue Bomber;Do you recall how much the dealer was asking for the Kennedy 526B in the bottom pic?And the 2 drawer base?I just picked one up from a garage sale here that is in great shape. It would be great if I could find a 2 drawer base for it.

Thanks Bubinga!I knew when I got it home and cleaned it up that I had got a good deal. The only flaws on this chest is the ding in the center shoe box drawer that can be seen in the pics and that the felt is missing from that drawer. It came with a key but needed the proper hook, which I soon fixed

Max, I wanna think it was $75 for the top box and $60 for the base.

Way cool! I love the Art Deco lines on that cabinet. I'm assuming it is vintage?

I picked up this for $5 at the final day of an estate sale I passed by a few weeks ago, here it is cleaned up:

And when I stated looking for an appropriate roller for it, I found this for $30 and a two hour drive:

But looking at it, it is a good 20 years older, and has no slides on it:

Between that and the dark blue wrinkle paint, I am pretty sure it is Craftsman from the '30s, though I don't have a catalog to compare with from that period. In any case, I thought it would look better under my Plomb 9998, even though I had to build a shelf as they are from before standardized sizes for stacks:

This came with a friend of mine's 1916 Case steam traction engine. When it got sold, the buyer intentionally left it behind. I don't know for sure if it was original to the Case, but it could be. Pretty heavy, basic construction, has wooden 'rack' on the back wall for smaller tools (like screwdrivers). I believe it's 100 years old. Going to use it behind my '40 Ford cab/chassis truck as a toolbox.

Not original Case tool box but at least pre war or even 1920's I would say.

Outlaw, mine is OD green on the inside, and I think it was made during the war, but that is a guess, as I am not sure when they used that logo.

Got this Saturday, have not decided it's fate yet. I really just want to clean the slides and use it, but it has a lot of rust and pitting under the nasty rattle can paint. Is the date code in the top till on the add like the newer models? This is my first pre-1980s cman top box.

Here's my box that I've had since 1988. Bought it used off the Mac truck. I think I paid about $300 for it. I guess it's a late '70s/early '80s box. It's an MB 5100 K2. I just pulled it out of the old shed it's been in since the late '80s to the new garage. Gonna clean it up and set it on top of my Kennedy roller while I search for a matching Mac roller.

got 3 boxes over the weekend for $60:

- 2 Kennedy toolboxes. The 260 is in good shape, just had to clean up a bit. The 262 only has some rust at the handles, easily fixed.
- the 3rd box I have not yet identified. Great shape other than the splashed paint, will use as is. Had liners in all drawers. I love the shape of this one.

I think that last one is a Blackhawk. Here's a link to Blackhawk thread on GJ.
There's one on there similar to yours.

Yep the code is still in the top. It's definitely seen better days. Those are real solid top boxes. Alittle silver to convert up the black will make world of difference.

Well, after being away all winter with work and hockey I've just read through the last 30 pages or so of this thread. Some of you have found some great boxes.

Unfortunately I struck out this winter, missed a few good deals but happy to be back on the hunt this summer. Now I'm off to skim through the Garage Sale thread, should keep me busy over the long weekend.
