Finished my two Wilton bullet vises that I picked up several weeks ago in the Chicago area while I was in the states on leave.

As purchased.

Sandblast party.

Minor bodywork with some JB Weld, grinder, files.

First coat of paint on 935 - too loud!

First coat of paint on the 945 - sort of a root beer metallic - kind of blah. Shown with the brass jaws that it came with.

Second try on painting the 935 - better, but still not a huge fan.

Bingo! Found some gorgeous hammered green paint at the local box store (Leroy Merlin); I can't get spray paint shipped from the states, so this was a great find.

The 945 now has new jaws from KMScott - they are beautiful! I still need to straighten the spindle handle just a bit.

The 935 has a new swivel base from Nick (he sells them on eBay, I think, but I bought directly from him). Nick also supplied the NOS Wilton jaws. I need to drill out the static and dynamic jaws and install helicoils; the threads are a bit boogered up. Then I'll put on the new jaws. It also has a beautiful spindle handle from KMScott that I need to clean a bit - I scratched it up when peening the end and the heat discolors it a bit, too.

The 945 will sit on the "Portable Dirty Room" rolling workbench that I built a few days ago and the 935 will go on my workbench, opposite my Record #6.

Great job on those bullets! You certainly did find the right color.
And nice display table too. Artfully staged with two beautiful Wiltons and another GJ favorite, the Craftsman "block" grinder.
Do you happen to have the also revered Craftsman 100 or 150 drill press?
That would be the perfect trifecta!

Yep, the block is a 1/2 hp commercial that's running on 220v. In very nice original condition. Bought from a GJ member a few years ago.

Picture of the vises in hammered green is lousy; I'll have to take a better one. Looks much better in person.

I don't have the Craftsman DP. Actually have an older Reliant 11" dual voltage DP, 3/4" chuck, about 320 lbs. Details here. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=329779&highlight=reliant+drill+press&showall=1. I'll source an older Craftsman once I get back to the states.

"Nearby Craigslist" (meaning another 4 hour one way drive) strikes again for the second time in as many days...

This time it's a swivel jaw Prentiss #2 on the Washington DC Craigslist for $20. Corner of the dynamic jaw does look chipped. Handle looks to be straight as an arrow.

Here's my favorite.... Reed 32 with 4.25 inch jaws. This thing is over built, weighs about 85 pounds. Looks like it has had very little use and has the original finish which is in great shape. I think it is fairly early build. There is no patent date, and notice the style of the nut to tighten rotation . I've had Wilton's and Parkers , which are great vises, but this Reed has balance, grace, and strength. Hard to describe

What's a reasonable price for a pretty clean Wilton C0? It's missing a pipe jaw, and at least one swivel lock, but doesn't look beat on.

Scored a little Wilton Bullet #8300 today. It's not stamped Chicago or Schiller Park, just USA.

A Wilton 920 for five bucks?

Who is running an estate sale at a body shop that prices a baby bullet at $5 ?

What other stuff was for sale at 95% less than what it is worth?

Was there an SO Epic toolbox stack for $500 ?

Or maybe an old 427 SOHC engine in a wooden crate marked FOMOCO for $1000 ?

Stop me before I get REALLY carried away...

You guys know anything about the yost 203 1/2

Great vise!

Here is a ~70's government contract Yost 204 that i managed to save - it had a stretched/kinked leadscrew.

~$80 for a new leadscrew/nut/handle assembly from Yost, and it is good as new.

I'm considering going with a red-with-black-lettering paint job.

It's been a long time since my last post but here is my newly acquired and cleaned up baby Prentiss swivel jaw vise. Going to make a locking (3 degree) pin on my lathe this weekend. I see that there's another one on eBay right now. These are awesome little vise's that really well made. I'm impressed.

and recently finished restoring these two vise's. The brown one is a FPU vise for a friend and Wilton 350s went to FL. The FPU is a fantastic vise and highly recommend them for numerous reasons.

One of the local tool auctions has this vise up for sale tomorrow... Thinking of swinging by.

They say it's a Chas Parker #205 but maybe they mean 205 lbs?? I couldn't find a #205 referenced anywhere. Think it'd be worth the jaunt?

firworks: Here is a catalog page from 1916 which shows a Parker 205 in the lower right hand corner.

grouseman: By some quirky coincidence, I had just looked up a 206 for my neighbor last night so I knew right where it was.
