At the time I made my first post this morning I had all the info needed for me to question this whole deal, including WWheeler.

In your first reply to me, instead telling me I watch to much CSI, and that all my ideas are just theories, and telling me I have a better chance of getting hit by lightning, you could have simply said... "hey, I ordered a jack and it's on it's way via Fedex. Maybe these eBay listings are legit" Nope, instead you chose to go the other route. I'm just defending myself.

Sometimes it's better to just let other people talk first, you learn a lot more about there motives and thought process. No need to defend yourself, as I stated previously you are entitled to your opinion, I just don't agree... No biggie.

I am genuinely excited that you have one of these jacks on the way. It is no doubt that you ARE the authority of hydraulic floor jacks on this forum and I (along with MANY others, I'm sure) will be anxious to hear your opinions of this jack.

I will 2nd this. I have thought several times while reading this thread....gee I wish Hiball could get one of these to tear down so we could put so many of these speculations to rest. I want to buy one.....I just want to know if it is as nice on the inside as the outside! Thanks Hiball.

7. At this time is when Hiball gets on here to basically tell me that I'm a conspiracy theorist and that I'd have a better chance of getting hit by lightning than WWheeler being involved in a eBay scam.

Not to take sides here but the way I read Hiball's post was you have a better chance of getting hit by lightning than Ebay not having your back as the buyer. He only seemed to suggest that he doubted WWheeler was involved in the scam.

Anyways, the fact that it's shipping out of Dillon, SC when it was listed as michigan on ebay has me vexed. I looked up what harbor freight has in Dillon, SC and surprise surprise, it's one of their largest tool distribution centers. i'm going to go out on a limb here and say Harbor Freight is dumping these on Ebay because of the lawsuit. OR someone is stealing them from the warehouse. I'm awfully curious to hear where HiBall's fedex tracking number says his jack is coming from

"DILLON, S.C. – Harbor Freight Tools broke ground on its$75 million distribution center expansion at the Tri-County Gateway Industrial Park in Dillon Wednesday as S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley and representatives from Marion, Dillon and Marlboro Counties looked on.

The groundbreaking ceremony was a formality after Harbor Freight Tools’ announced the expansion last month. Harbor Freight Tools’ Chief Administrative Officer Allan Mutchnik said the expansion will double the size of their current facility in Dillon, which is already the companies largest distribution site.

“With this expansion, Harbor Freight will be doubling the size of this facility from one million square feet to about two million under roof and our local workforce will increase from the current 680 employees to about 900 employees,” he said.

The expansion is expected to be complete by early 2014."

Yep, there is a distribution center in Dillon, SC. I didnt order from the same person you did though. I assume they are actually coming out of the HF warehouse but I wonder if they are paying using some sort of stolen funds (i.e. gift cards) and basically laundering the funds through paypal using stolen Ebay accounts or there is a flaw in the ordering system that they are taking advantage of. They would still want items to be delivered because of the long hold on PayPal funds. For an individual stealing from the warehouse they would still have to ship using the HF account because for average joes there would be no profit margin after shipping. Its too much of a coincidence that these accounts are flagged for compromise and they have basically no seller history. I have to watch CSI tonight and see if I can get any good pointers and figure it out.

8horse for $120
http://www.ebay.com/itm/8-HP-301cc-...539480?hash=item4b0b624f98:g:pUkAAOSwo4pYGGed

what i've found so far

edit: Wow.. there is a LOT of different sock puppet accounts..they are all old with few feedback, mostly inactive up till now. most of them only sell the same item. i.e you'll find 4-5 different accounts selling only daytona jacks. only this one account had 3 listed at once. I can't find any other items. How are they getting all these accounts?

This really ***** for anyone who fell into the trap!

Post number 337 of this thread was by a user named WWheeler. At the time of that post he was a BRAND NEW user on this site.... it was his first post. He is the guy who alerted all of us about the great deals on eBay for this jack. I have suspected all along that he was/is a scammer who created an account on this site to "advertise" the eBay listings and drive as many sales as possible before eBay discovered the scam and pulled the listings. Basically, he was using this site to help the eBay scam all along! It is a bit suspicious that a BRAND NEW user comes on here to post about a deal to good to be true on eBay. He didn't exactly defend the listings, but he was openly optimistic and even claimed he purchased one himself..... in order to persuade others to fall into the trap.

The very next post (#338) was from me..... the last sentence in my post was.... "You know what they say, any time a deal is too good to be true, it usually is." Hopefully anyone who tried to buy one of these on ebay will get their money back. Fingers crossed for you guys.

I could be completely wrong about WWheeler.... but I doubt it! :dunno:

I'm a scammer? Pffft! I may not have posted here before but have been a member for more than a year lurking. I must have read a couple thousand posts in that time before I made that first post, and I couched every thing I wrote with the suspicion that the deal seemed too good to be true. I honestly think something is really wrong with you to write something like that for no other reason than it was someone's first post here. What a welcoming guy you are. Not.

BTW, FWIW, I DID get a tracking email today and go figure, the shipper is none other than Harbor Freight. It's coming via FedEx and should be here tomorrow. I think it's safe to say it's not a scam, at least not from the seller I bought from (I paid $100 w/ free shipping). Looks like the gamble paid off.

I look forward to posting pics of it when it gets here.

Oh my, I'm in for one now. seems like an elaborate scam. Problem is that there are a variety of sellers, which one did you guys use?

Yep... Harbor freight is even in on it.. Ha.. I've only received tracking showing that the shipment info has been sent, Doesn't appear Fed ex has taken possession yet. I used seller s_sylsy_simqvty YMMV.

I've been leery to point to any specific sellers. The one Hiball bought from (s_sylsy_simqvty) was a seller I had saved in my watchlist more than a week ago but I couldn't get over my fears of it being a scam before he sold out of the 'more than 10' he had listed as did all the others that had similar listings at the time, only to be replaced by new sellers who also had no previous seller history.

Since I hadn't removed s_sylsy_simqvty's sold out listing from my watchlist a few days later I noticed that he started getting good reviews from people who had bought from him (those are his seller reviews I posted a screengrab of a few pages back). It was only after that I began to suspect maybe these are not all a scam but maybe legit somehow. It didn't - still doesn't really - make sense to me. That's when I made my first post here on this thread as I wanted other's opinions, but I gave in and bought one anyway before I got much of a response here after doing a bit of research about ebay and paypal's money back policies which made me feel like I really didn't have much to lose besides maybe have $100 ******* for a few weeks or so if it wasn't legit.

At the time I placed my order I took a gamble on a seller with no previous history because that's all there was at the time, but just minutes after I placed the order I noticed that 's_sylsy_simqvty' relisted 8 more Daytona jacks I think it was. I was seriously regretting not having waited as I would have MUCH rather bought from him instead but I had no way to know. Anywho, he again sold out pretty quick and currently has no items for sale.

FWIW, the seller I bought from sounds like the same one koviak bought from as it was listed as coming from Roscommon Michigan. The listing was still active just a few minutes ago saying there was 'more than 10 available' (thumbnail 1) but as I was writing this now on a refresh I get a page saying 'This listing has been removed, or this item is not available.' (thumb 2) The seller's account is still there but no longer has any items listed for sale. Go figure.

<snip>

lololol. Just because you registered a year or more before you finally posted, and read over 2000 posts, doesn't automatically make you a member in good standing. None of us had ever heard your user name until you posted in this thread. You were only an "active" member in your head, the rest of us have never heard of you. This is one of the reasons why there is a minimum post count required to post in the classified section of this site.

As far as being a "welcoming guy". I was very nice to you in my original posts. In fact, please show me were I wasn't nice to you. Even now, I may have suspected you as being part of a scam but I still never said anything mean about you. Simply suspicion, that is all. Keep in mind, none of these tracking numbers came out until after my post this morning.

I will admit when I am wrong and at this point it looks like.... I was wrong.

Now that the "controversial" scam topic is over, let me start another one...
If HF is indeed the seller on eBay, why don't they mention the 3 year warranty in their listings? Could it be they received a container load of slightly damaged or "seconds" from the factory in China and they are not willing to stand behind these for the next 3 years? Maybe these jacks are from an initial production run before a major design change? It's possible (likely)these are not EXACTLY the same as the jacks being sold in stores. There has to be a back story to the half price jacks. :bounce:

I'm wondering if the gig is up... Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned my intentions of tearing into there product and putting it on the interwebs. My shipment is still awaiting arrival to Fed Ex, since EBay sellers are pulling listings make me wish I would have kept my mouth shut.

if he's part of the scam can he tell us why is it only 12" miter saws, 6.5-8hp predator engines, and daytona jacks? I'm looking forward to some toolboxes or something really nice. has anybody else been looking? all the ads have had their titles straight copied from the harbor freight website, word for word. find it on HF.com, and search for it on ebay /w lowest price+shipping and if you find anything too good to be true post it here. and hopefully merry christmas HAHA

Well, I for one hope that's not the case. I am really looking forward to your findings.

There has got to be a reason why they are selling these at half price, through private seller accounts on eBay, instead of in their stores or on their own website. :headscrat

They shifted over to a bid based, instead of BUY IT NOW type deal, and there's even more new accounts with 1 feedback. The one account that had 3 different items listed had the bid type thing as well. some of the engines are still BIN priced cheap.. idk weird

also, i dont think the listing is being pulled by the sellers. It has to be Ebay doing it for whatever purpose

Heh, fwiw, the account 's_sylsy_simqvty' who Hiball bought from who does have multiple feedback from previous buyers just added a new listing for $94.99 "More than 10 available / 1 sold".

http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-Ton-Dayto...ck-Super-Duty-Brand-New-/122208177968?vxp=mtr

I wonder if ebay will try to remove that listing too? Seems they are scrubbing them only because they look like a deal too good to be true.

Here is my guess: Harbor Freight distribution center in Dillon, SC could be sitting on a bunch of these jacks (maybe a whole container load or even more, dunno). Maybe HF execs and legal team are feeling that the Snap On lawsuit might have some merit and in lieu of possibly having to stop selling these with a bunch of units in the warehouse, maybe they have decided to sell some at a reduced price through another venue.

Someone mentioned earlier they wouldn't do that because they have their own stores, hence their own outlet for selling them. By selling them out the back door like this on Ebay through 3rd parties though, they don't have to honor warranty on them and they aren't blowing them out at clearance pricing in their own stores which could be construed as being afraid or conceding the lawsuit has merit.

You never know, HF may have discovered that their "Snap On Killer" jack is a little too good. Maybe it's built by the same Chinese company, in the same factory and with the same inner workings of the Snap On and they were just banking on the few tiny visual differences to be enough to keep the Kenosha, WI boys quiet. Of course they certainly miscalculated how pissed off Snap On would be when their name, logo and tools started appearing in HF smear ads.

Of course I'm only guessing. One thing though for sure, if the GJ members who bought these jacks from different Ebay sellers start receiving these in good, new first line condition and they are all shipped from the Dillon, SC Harbor Freight distribution center, I don't see any way HF isn't in on it.

Except Snap-on isn't suing about the internals. They are suing over a design patent, which is basically they are suing because it looks too similar. Though they try to make it sound like it was a device patent. Design patents are usually the easiest to get around. Those tiny visual differences are often all you need.

I am in the market for a decent floor jack. I was at my local HF in Conway SC and saw the daytona model. When I got home I stumbled upon this thread while researching different models. I had my mind set on the long reach 139.99 model that HF sells but for the small price difference I looked into the daytona. After 20 pages of reading I decided on the daytona, it will more than meet my needs. I like to wrench my own cars, as well as a few friends rides. I took the chance on the eBay auction, will keep everyone posted. I went with the same seller hiball went with. I live 45 minutes from that Dillon SC distribution center so mine should arrive pretty fast if this is legit.

I'm on board with chrisnazzy, curious if there is some sort of retail maneuvering HF is doing through Ebay in order to protect themselves against any kind of recall or refund they may face as part of a settlement. If you consider the cost of shipping all these back or paying customers, this might actually make financial sense.

Anyone else remember radialarmsawrecall.com years ago from Emerson tool?

Just purchased one from this seller. Hope it comes through. Didn't even really need another jack, but if it comes through, I'll try and sell my Arcan I bought at Costco.

Looking at her (s_sylsy_simqvty) feedback I think it's LEGIT. There are a bunch of positive ratings from longtime sellers.
