To everyone that received a tracking number, how long did it take to get one?

I ordered one jack 21hrs ago and received the eBay compromise email 19hrs ago

I ordered the other one from sylsy 18hrs ago and received the compromise email 1hr ago.

But I haven't received any tracking info from either.

I ordered on Friday afternoon 10-28. On Sat 10-29 it was asked whether anyone had received tracking info yet so I posted this ...
I just ordered on Fri afternoon so all I have so far is the standard ebay "Estimated between Wed. Nov. 2 and Wed. Nov. 9". The seller I bought from did post that they "Will usually ship within 2 business days of receiving cleared payment" & that it's supposed to be sent via UPS SurePost. Paypal takes a business day to clear which I'm assuming means the earliest I'll get a notice that it shipped will be Mon-Tue if this all goes well for me. [...]

In the meantime it was discussed here that the jack is too heavy to be sent via UPS Surepost. Was starting to have pretty serious doubts about this deal.

Then yesterday (Tue, Nov 1) I came home from work and noticed I had gotten an email from FedEx and posted here about it ...

[...] FWIW, I DID get a tracking email today and go figure, the shipper is none other than Harbor Freight. It's coming via FedEx and should be here tomorrow. I think it's safe to say it's not a scam, at least not from the seller I bought from (I paid $100 w/ free shipping). Looks like the gamble paid off. [...]

^ In that post I included a screenshot of the FedEx tracking page showing the weight is 112 lbs and it's coming from Harbor Freight in Dillon SC.

Then sometime later yesterday evening I got an email from ebay saying ...

Your recent eBay transaction may be from a compromised account

You were recently involved in a transaction for the following item:
222294011958 - 3 Ton Daytona Professional Steel Floor Jack - Super Duty, FREE SHIPPING!!!

We’re writing to let you know that an unauthorized third party may have accessed the seller’s account to list this item. The item has been removed from the site, and the transaction was cancelled. We ask that you take the following precautions:

- If you already paid for the item, you may be protected by eBay. [...]

That was weird. By this point I'm pretty certain it's not a scam and the seller has already had the item shipped and on the way. I went back to the listing and clicked the "Resolve a Problem" > "Need our Assistance? Contact Us" and a couple more steps before I got a trio of choices to "Call Us", "Call You", or "Send a Message" I think it was. I chose the option to call them and after 10 minutes or so on hold got to speak with a person who, upon hearing my explanation they transferred me to the department that was removing these listings.

They wouldn't tell me what their reasons were for removing the listing and sending me that email but when I told them I already had a tracking number and it's being sent via FedEx from Harbor Freight and I was relatively sure as I could be that the listing was not a scam they asked for the tracking number, which I gave them and she pulled it up on her end. All she said after that was "huh? It looks like you are right." but there was nothing they could do at this point. She didn't say so but I got the feeling they didn't have any legitimate reason for pulling all these listings down and that they were just doing it because there were so many different identical ones posted from multiple sellers with no prior sales history that looked like a deal too good to be true. I realized I was wasting my time and ended the call.

Then this morning I checked my 'FedEx Delivery Manager' page and noticed the expected delivery date had changed from today to Thursday. I posted about it on post #450 along with a screenshot of the tracking page.

Then not long ago today I finally get an email from ebay: "SHIPPED: 3 Ton Daytona Professional Steel Floor Jack - Super Duty, FREE SHIPPING!!!" that includes the tracking number. Go figure.

I think ebay has lost their mind removing all these listings.

FedEx still shows "Expected Delivery: Thu 11/03/2016 by end of day". Can't hardly wait for it to get here.

They are most likely using stolen credit cards to drop ship these items from Harbor Freight. They are going through ebay to obfuscate the transaction and PayPal to essentially launder the money.

Ebay is watching the activity on these accounts and sees the weird activity (going from no activity to selling tons), changes to the PayPal addresses, and the IPs. Do you really think HF using an army of random zero seller feedback sellers from all over the USA to sell these along with the Predator engines at stupid low prices for products that are flying off the shelves at normal prices???? Do you really think ebay is cancelling honest sellers unless they are seeing very strange activity??? Why are these ebay sellers lowering their prices on the second round after selling out a first huge batch in a few days???

Ehhh... PayPal is like today's banks, if you want the option to remove funds either via a PP debit card or via bank transfer your going to need to prove your identity one way or another. It would be poor planning to attempt to launder money via the checks and balances that are in place in today's banking system.

I really think these items are being liquidated from Harbor Freight through third party sellers for whatever their reasons are. I have no reason to suspect there is anything at all not legit about it.

I do know there are a million waaaaaay better ways to launder money that don't involve getting back less than $0.50 on the dollar and running up against ebay and paypal security and US interstate commerce laws as you speculate.

I told my friend to buy the 3T Daytona jack through eBay since it was only $100 but now I am glad he just got one from HF Maplewood MN for $199 and saved himself from all this drama. I hope you guys get your jacks per your order and everything is good. I do not like eBay as I had my bad transactions there. I think Craigslist is the best option since you have an option to meet the seller and buy as you see fit.

So they are liquidating Predator engines too??? The hackers dont live in the USA do you think they care about our laws or if they are selling it at a discount (.50 on the dollar). Its about getting as much money as quickly as possible and moving on....

Why are they liquidating a product that they are selling unchanged and is still flying off the shelf? If they had to change the product I could understand but they havent and are still selling it at stores. Why would they not go through normal resellers like a Cripe Distributing or the many that exist on ebay but instead use zero feedback sellers from all across the USA.

Its pretty obvious something fraudulent is happening. Its like arguing with people about Ponzi schemes until it blows up. You will probably come out ahead with a jack at way below market value but its not on the up and up.

I suppose you could be right, but if so I'm left scratching my head how someone smart enough to put something like that together could be so stupid. I doubt they would ever see a penny from it and they'd have broken so many laws that they'd stand a very good chance of getting caught and going to prison for it no matter where in the world they attempted that from. Even if they are hiding behind a keyboard in some former Soviet country or some other similar place they'd still have put a target on their back and have accomplished little more than wasted their time.

They probably have thousands of stolen credit cards and compromised ebay accounts. I would actually venture to guess they arent the ones that hacked it and these accounts were purchased on some of the open black markets for this stuff. They only need to hit on a couple of their scams to be successful and this is just a small piece of their effort. They probably know most of their attempts will fail but if they hit on just a couple they are doing well. Once they find one that works they will try to exhaust it before it is discovered. Meanwhile, they probably live in some country with either little governance or some outright hostility to the US and operate through a myriad of proxy servers. They can probably make way more money scamming some Americans then working behind a 9-5 so they probably see it as a job and are devoting most of their day to it.

Now that the seller is gone... I doubt those, including myself that bought will recieve anything. Exception being, maybe those few that already have shipment notifications.

Time to get my money back, fun while it lasted.

This got to be the most interesting and exciting topic. A lot of drama for potential saving of ~$100 sans the Dayoana 3T jack. I wonder if HF's IT got compromised going ultra cheap on their security (just a speculation and nothing more). For those with FedEx tracking numbers, I hope you guys get your jacks but HF can cancel the shipments if they were sent in error.

It is amazing to see what some will do to save a few bucks......and the risks and hassles they incur in the process.

What risk is there? PayPal has the buyer covered if something goes wrong. Not really a hassle either, as it only takes a few minutes to fill out the forms to get your money back.

+1

A few minutes and $100 saved... I was considering buying the jack anyway. Gave me a good excuse. I think the VWwheeler... guy is the only getting spooled up.

I got my shipment notification as well this morning.

My jack is "On FedEx vehicle for delivery" today "Estimated between: 12:25 pm - 4:35 pm". I can't wait for it to get here, but I have mixed feelings now at the thought that IanG might be right that these discounted listings were part of some credit card fraud scam.

When they removed the listing from the seller I bought from after I already had tracking showing it coming from Harbor Freight I figured ebay was just being overly cautious, but now I see that other seller 's_sylsy_simqvty', which actually had been receiving good buyer feedback from selling these jacks, his account has now been unregistered. So ebay knew that seller wasn't ripping off customers but shut him down anyway. That has me leaning more towards what IanG was thinking, which kinda *****.

I don't really want to be part of some scam even if I do wind up getting what I paid for at a great discount. At this point I still don't really know what's going on. It just puts a bit of a damper on my mood when I was super excited to be getting a great price on a jack I had been eyeballin to purchase anyway for a couple weeks before I even started seeing those too-good-to-be-true ebay listings.

I really hope everyone else who did order one from ebay either gets theirs too or painlessly gets their money back or wasn't charged at all for it. I really hope Hiball gets his too soon as I really look forward to seeing his teardown & review.

I'll keep you all posted when the delivery gets here which should happen this afternoon sometime.

I also bought from s_sylsy_simqvty yesterday, 11/2 around noon.

An hour and a half later, I received the email from Ebay saying "We're writing to let you know that we've removed an item you recently won:
122208177968 - 3 Ton Daytona Professional Steel Floor Jack - Super Duty - Brand New ***"

I actually emailed the seller through their email on Paypal, but haven't heard back yet.

However, at 5:38 this morning, I received an email that the package shipped via FedEx from Dillon, SC so we'll see.

I ordered this jack along with a 301 piece mechanics tool set which was selling for $100 with free shipping. Both items are marked as "shipped" on ebay and I have a tracking number for the mechanics tool set being shipped through fedex. However, when I plug the tracking number into fedex all it says is that the shipping label was created but it does not say the item is actually in the process of being transported to me. Just because the seller marked the item as "shipped" on ebay and printed a shipping label for it, doesn't mean anything is actually happening. Everything is just smoke and mirrors so far.

After reading the comments in this thread this seems like a scam any way you cut it. Even if we get our stuff it is most likely stolen.

I am hoping some of these sales are legit and you guys will get your jacks, BUT ebay feedback can be faked using shill accounts.

how can it be stolen when it dropships from the factory? why is it only 6.5-8hp predator engines and daytona jacks, 12" miter saws, and now it looks like 301 piece mechanic set can be added to the list..

i don't think it's stolen credit cards, stolen gift cards might be more plausible.

I think i'm gonna take a good look at that mechanics set, i just need sockets but you can't beat that price. thanks for posting it

I don't understand how that could be possible. You have to complete a purchase to leave feedback for the item and the 'feedback as a seller' page shows what item that was purchased and shows the buyers' ebay feedback scores, which in the case of s_sylsy_simqvty the lowest buyers score was 129 and the highest over 1800, which wouldn't be easy to do on 'shill accounts'. The only way to receive a single point is to have bought or sold something on ebay.

It might be a way to launder money or get money off cards. Using stolen cards/bad funds to buy the jacks. Sell it on eBay, each order but the jacks using said funds. Dirty money becomes clean money or at least harder to trace dirty money?

Does this seem pretty familiar to the crazy deal on the Miller 211's with spoolgun ebay fiasco from last year that resulted in people being shipped notes, newspapers, and whatever else?

just want to bump and reiterate what I know about these ads.

The item names are usually exact copies from the harbor freight website
The price is about half what the list price on HF's website
i.e $199. Daytona jack becomes 90-110 dollars, $199 301 Piece mechanics set becomes 100 dollars. $120 and $240 predator engines become 69.99 and 119.99. All free shipping from what appears to be Dillon, SC. Some accounts have good feedback for these items, others dont. Ebay seems to be removing the accounts and issuing fraud emails, but the ads keep re-listing. I think most people have received tracking numbes within 1-2 days. My jack has moved from SC to NC so Fedex has taken possession of it
I think somebody posted they'll receive their package today. I'm eager to find out what they get.
