My UK barn renovation.

Old stone barns are so cool. The space is really shaping up nicely!

Beautiful old barn, certainly worth all the effort you are doing. Our old barns are mostly wood post and beam. i see in your pics there are beams across the width of your barn. Did these beams once support a hay loft floor?

I think they probably did have a hay loft, I'm not sure, it's also possible they were part of the original roof structure, I'm not sure what the original would have been, the house was thatched many many years ago but isn't anymore.


Decided to make better use of some of the space by the stairs:



Also found a guy selling these old parts draws, they fit perfectly:



That brings me up to present day so posts will slow down a bit now.
Left to sort out is:

• 
  Install all the mains sockets

• Install all the lighting

• Create some more tool storage area by the stairs

• Sort somewhere to store paints etc..

• Unpack a load of boxes and find somewhere to store all the junk

• Install the airlines

• Sort out power for the lathe

• Loads of things I can't currently think of

Incidentally, did you have a source for all those dark grey plastic boxes?

Which do you have? hopefully a Griff or Chim by your username?

The plastic crates are great, they stay inside each other one way, rotate by 180 and they go on top of each other. You'll see many of them at a Royal Mail sorting office

Great stuff! I saw your posts over on the mig welding forum too. This is turning into a fantastic workshop space.

Could you please show us a closer picture of the Pegboard hooks for the Compressor tools. That's perfect... Actually have me relooking at my Little Stair setup and how to better use some of the Dead space it creates...

Yes. The pegboard hooks for the air Tools are really interesting, have been searching for something similar, but can't find it.

Your garage is really nice, looking forward to the continuation of Your Project.

Thought it time for an update, first of all some more details of the airline tools:

I use Schrader fittings for my tools, these fit nicely between the fittings that were with some peg boards I got:






Thought it was time to start being more creative with the storage, to start with this seems like a waste of space:



This is a bit better:





Next a mate brought his race car over for us to work on it together, but we wanted to lift it onto some stands, so thought we'd see if the 4 poster can lift two cars:







Worked perfectly so now we can wheel it around the shop and work on it without bending over all the time!



Now time to get some tunes in, just some little speakers and an old amp for now, need to work out what to do longer term.



I'd been trying to think of a neat way to store my reels of cable, and where to store them, then I had a brain wave, in-between the joists of the mez!





All made from steel that I've picked out of skips over the last couple of years! Included the length of M16 stainless all thread.

Then I wanted to mount the vice on a stand as I want to keep the bench tops completely clear. Picked the stand up second hand for a bargain price and bolted it to the floor, but thought it would need some bracing at the top for when I'm doing some bending or similar, so braced it back to the column for the mez, then I realised I needed a home for my grindstone and linisher, so thought the space behind the vice would be perfect!

Again, using steel from a skip, these were parts of an old desk, but perfect for what I need. I drilled and tapped the mez column to bolt the bits of angle to.
Then another brain wave, I could use some old gridding, again from a skip at work, then the holes could be useful for other things, like files!

Now Why didn't I think of that with the Steps... What an awesome way to Close up the side and Increase Storage options. I thought My steps setup was complete... Thanks a million... Just another thing I need to revisit in the shop now hahaha. Excellent Ideas keep them coming...

Barns coming on great, sure I've driven past it though looks really familiar for some reason.

Looking good Eddy. I recently moved house and in so doing acquired a triple garage, not the sole reason for buying the place but it was a consideration ;-)

I will be looking into your idea of the Royal Mail crates and I am interested in your floor paint, how is it holding out?

I love old barns, more so than new buildings. Really enjoying this thread and seeing how you're using such a lovely space.
