Long story short I have been for months trying to decide on which compressor to buy. Originally I wanted one of the 20 gallon vertical ones but have since decided to go to something big enough that upgrading again isnt in the cards as long as I live in the same house with the same small 2 car garage.

I have it Narrowed down to one of the following 2 units.

Belaire 216v - $921 - I have a local place that sells it for 869 + tax brand new. This at first glance seems like the obvious choice due to the better warranty & being able to buy local. But the 1400 RPM pump speed & the noise associated with it in my garage are not at all appealing.

Puma TE-5040V - $999 - The smaller capacity & thus smaller tank is an advantage for me & the much slower 985 RPM pump seems like it would be MUCH quieter & most likely last longer. Only a 1 year warranty vs the 2 year on the Belaire.

Spec's/Performance wise they are essentially a wash to me. There is a 1.3 SCFM advantage for the Belaire, but since my current 7.1 CFM 20 gallon oiless is doing the job I am not worried about the extra little bit from the Belaire.

Neither has a US made pump
Neither has a US made motor (though the guy at Puma I talked to said if I called when I ordered from ACD that they could put a USA made Leeson on it for me).
The Puma should be quieter
The Belaire has a little more capacity so shouldn't have to run quite as often.
The Puma is 14" shorter so I would be able to get 1 more usable shelf in my garage above it.

The price is about 79 dollars different in favor of the one I have to go pick up (I dont know that I would trust driving it from the next town on my little lightweight trailer due to how top heavy these things are so I would probably also borrow a truck to go get it). The warranty also favors the less expensive one. The size & sound however which are both pretty big points for me favor the more expensive one.

So which makes more sense. Save a few bucks and compromise on what I cant really change later. Or spend the money and sacrifice a year of warranty to get the one will still physically fit better in 5 years.

Well I decided & it was neither of them...

I ended up with an Older Air America LJ660v2.. Paid 500 for for. Dont know the hours, but it looks to be in pretty good shape. The folks who I bought it from dont know much about it other then that it was his deceased father in law's. It has the drain plumed to a ball valve so I am working under the assumption that the guy took good care of it.

Congrats! That should provide years of enjoyable and reliable service. Plus, you've got ~$500 left over for more tools!
