I will call it dumb luck. I rarely search for the word "Craftsman" but I did yesterday. It wasn't listed under tool box, chest, or otherwise. It was only up 4 hours when I found it and was still listed at 8pm last night.

So what's the skinny on Remline? I've just recently been introduced to Remline and I can't find solid information about the company. Only thing I've found is some say they are **** and others say they are the Gem of tool boxes.

I would say they are just nice old toolboxes, I have 3 tops and 1 bottom now all the same style as above except 1 top which is from the 70's and looks more like the Mac Waterloo boxes. I really love the handles on them, nobody else has handles as cool. They are nothing special just well built with friction slides.

I know nothing about their history but have that same top chest. It's as stout as any Snap-On/Mac/Waterloo I've ever seen.

So what what information would you give about this one? This is the first one I've ever seen or even ever come across. I learned on here the "born on date" is behind the badge and it says 61.

Someone recently found that Remline was formerly Advertising Metal Display Co. They apparently trademarked Remline, then renamed the company to Remline.

Edit: Yep, right there:

Advertising Metal Display Co. made some of the early postwar boxes for Sears, and made a near identical ten drawer with the same or close to the same drawer layout.

I think they were also making some of the Monkey Wards Powr Kraft boxes.

Ryan do you happen to have the new box empty? If so can you set it on the scale? I'm curious if it is close to the weight of the old AMD Co. Box...

Also, does the top middle drawer still have the mini drawer/tray inside?

I don't know if this one belongs here or in metal containers. The box is complete with leather handle (no saw). The bottom is pretty rusty though

I didn't know they had a little tray in the top drawer, thanks now I need to find one lol. I will weigh it tomorrow spent all day sanding the drawers and box and painting it, had to fix some spots but its all done already and should be good to put back together tomorrow.

There is a decade between the early AMD Co. made Craftsman boxes and yours, so it may not have still been a feature, which is why I asked.

ryan20021982: That turned out beautiful. I'm not sure I'd be able to put it to use. What did you use to remove the rust from the handles?

Thank you, I just used a wire brush first very light by hand not wheel and then 2 buffing compounds to finish them off. Some of the little spots were hard to get off and I use a razor blade to just pick at them until it's smooth before buffing.

The next in line on the restoration leader board are pictured. At my current rate of progress, the estimated completion date is early June 2397.

Repeating the same thing here that I posted on the Craftsman red/gray thread:

It has been a wild week for me as I have been fortunate enough to find several things that were on my wish list. Adding to my already bloated collection, Drivesitfar was kind enough pick up this 9 drawer roller and 10 drawer top chest that were located in his neighborhood for only $100, this evening. I'm in your debt, my friend!

Sweet Riley! What is the age on your top chest? I am wondering when they started putting that bar handle instead of the loops.

I don't have it in my hands yet, but the seller stated he bought it from a neighbor in 1971 and it was one year old at that time - which puts it sometime in 1970. My other 10 drawer top chest has the loop handles and was made in 11/68

The two drawer I just got is dated 3-74 with loop handles. I also have a '73 with loops. I believe I am remembering the dates correctly. Maybe they did both handle types in a single year?

Perhaps they were made by different manufacturers? I will be sure to carefully compare the two when I meet Drives on Tuesday. I also have a 3 drawer top chest that is dated 1972 with the handles inset like this one I just purchased.

Do you (or anyone else) know where to find the date code on the middle boxes?

Hmmmmm, I thought the 72 would have had the loops. I guess I'll figure it out with some help from you guys. Thanks.

That's Nice Brian, What I like about the bottom box is the drawers go all the way down.
Not really a fan of those bottom bins.
