Jake-I'll start with one care package for my former employer and go from there. :lol:

I left on good terms but they deserve it and more.

You guys probably won't believe this, but I was planning a whole goodbye to my garage thread, so I started taking some pictures on the camera and...

The whole thing was in mega disrepair from decades of neglect by a number of people including myself. Sadly, it could probably be the poster child for how a garage should not be treated.

I wanted to show my setup inside, something I have never done. Talk a little about the garage's history, possibly show some original psychedelic hippie artwork it had inside, some plans I had over the years, what used to be in there, etc.

Well, this should have all been done before, I know. Along with lots of repair work.

Anyway, I was taking pictures and suddenly the camera broke. The screen just went caput.. I showed my friend and he said it looked just like his phone when it went.

It must have been the garage gods angry with me.

So that, I thought, was a very fitting ending to things.

Sorry to get off track here. You guys know I come here to talk tools for the most part anyway. I need to change my user name now to something like halfabay.

I know the feeling... Many many years ago I was looking at a new computer monitor online (thinking of getting a larger one) and I swear as I was looking at the new models my current monitor just up and died on me! Up until then it was working just fine and wasn't even that old... :lol:

Few interesting finds today.

The fixed socket speeders are Mossberg. DBEs are Williams, Utica and Krauter pliers, and Easco RHFT. Hammers are Pexto with the handle and a Griffith missing the handle. Russel Jennings bits and some skate keys.

Last but not least Snap on ratcheting adapter in 3/8" drive.

Well, me neither. I'm headed to Minnesota with our Boy Scout troop for nine days, so I'm frozen out of sales for the next two weekends. Good thing I'm retired from picking....

I can't go either, got a new job working 7-3:30 6 days a week. The sad part is I will no longer have time to go to sales. Picking Retirement here I come! :scared:

Well, that $15 cargo box for my sister's car that I picked up on Saturday wasn't the bargain I planned on. Her car's roof rails didn't have crossbars to mount it.

Soooooo,
$320 for parts, a 3 day wait for shipping, and several hours of cursing and grumbling .......
The box is finally on her car for her trip next week.

Design engineers should be flogged. Yakima has a nice concept, but the designers forgot that the stuff they design has to be installed in the real world. This should have taken less than an hour to put on. Instead, I spent 3-1/2hrs banging and modifying to get the roof racks to fit on her car. Then I had to fuss with the box. This was all time wasted that I needed for other things before I leave on Saturday.

Sometimes we forget that that bargain we see in the moment, isn't such a bargain in the long run.

Here's my lot from he past two Saturdays at the local flea market. Paid less than $100 for all. Not as good as some of the deals I've seen you guys get but, I'm not buying to flip, mainly just rounding out my tool box and helping my son replace his Chinesium tools.

Full set (3/8 - 1") CM V and VV combos

Assorted CM V Flares, DOE SAE & Metric, Metric combos, and a complete 10 pc ignition set.

Assorted Proto combos and some full polish offset DOEs

A almost full set of 1/2" Drive CM V sockets 3/8 - 1 1/4" shallow and deep, 5.5" CM V extension, and assorted CM V 3/8 & 1/4 sockets.

And finally, a CM circle G brake tool, Wiss M2 snips, and assorted Mayhew, Starrett and Stanley punches.

Feel like I did ok for what I paid.

I was in a parking garage today and as I was exiting, I noticed the Toyota Land Cruiser in front of me was slowing down every time he approached an overhead concrete beam. The cargo box made the vehicle too tall for the garage and it was scraping the beams as it drove under. The roof rack was really flexing bad. It was entertaining only because it wasn't my vehicle!

Yup, I used to have to play that game in parking garages when I drove vans w/roof racks.
Step 1 - remove the wig-wag light.
Step 2 - clench **** and put on more deodorant.
Step 3 - listen to the antenna go thwack, ssscraape, sprooinnng ! on EVERY beam and pipe.

I still have to worry about it with the Tacoma on occasion, but not as often.
Why the hell they make parking garages with a 6'6" limit is beyond me.
When was the last time a Hobbit needed to park a car?

Gotta say since the new update to the site I have been on less as half the pictures don't show anymore. Seems a shame they had to change it but such is life. This actually will be a test is some respects as I don't even know if my pics will show now. Here goes - I'll just point out the highlights of this pile - railroad anvil , Japan mini vise, tool box full of some of the stuff and misc, 1/2" keystone socket set in clip, herbrand 9/16-5/8 s wrench, CM moon wrench same size, snap on - 1/2" rat adapter, 1/2"drive sockets 1/2&5/8, Bonney 7/8, wright 9/16, proto 15mm, klastar krakuret feelers, 704-s proto adj wrench, 2 black diamond mill ******* files (excuse the French) , wrenches - 3/4 proto, 7/8-13/16 barcalo buffalo , unknown 3/4-5/8 USA, CM =v= 6"ext , plomb 6" 806 pipe wrench (my pic of the lot) mayhew 1/2 chisel , kraeuter 1830 9" pliers, CM 6' mini tape measure, holokrome #44 Allen set, oxwall 1/4 rat, USA drill bit set and a bunch more misc. Picked this over a couple different EstateSales and a GG sale. Grand total of $24.

Ok that went well. Next week after that just a regular GG sale (not too many tools) I got an bunch of old leather tool pouchs (my old tool belt setup was snatched a long time ago and I wouldn't want a brand new one since I don't wear one for my current job) , a metal case for an unknown socket set and a bunch of mustang badges (for the badged up tool box of course) - these prices were the best I have seen around my parts - I did miss out on a very cool adj work stool the owner put out behind me - have since got a new CM one that is very nice but certainly not weathered looking. One of the badges is supposed to be off a 66 if anyone could confirm ? I'd rather it went back on a car than my box. Total was a buck.

I8awrench, those badges could be Mustang or Fairlane or even both. Flip them over and see what numbers are one the back. The GT badge with the red background looks like one used on 1966 1967 Fairlane GT's.

Thanks bluebolt for the reply - I did look and the GT s have a few numbers and FoMoCo stamped on em but the red emblem nothing - didn't have much luck doing a quick search on em so they might be box bound. Another estate sale a week or 2 ago advertising a lot of tools - didn't get much. I have been working on the AC system of an old dodge truck I just picked up so I snagged the gauges , couple cool looking wrenches tru fit and billings and at least a dozen people walked right by the Snap on 3/8 breaker on the table (heck I spotted it in the photos on the internet) not bad for $12 - thinking my gauges are missing a valve handle ? Haven't used them yet but I feel more professional with them hanging in the garage haha.

A few recent finds, the first is a Porter Cable A6 Guild 6-1/4" saw with case, accessories and extra blades, really nice shape, runs like a champ. At another sale I found the Snap ON freeze plug installer, SO S5929A VW brake adjuster, Cornwell steering wheel lock plate tool, Blue Point bearing race and seal driver kit, and a piece of chain, not shown, going to use it for safety chains on a little utility trailer I'm fixing up. Might grind the ends of the brake adjuster down and repurpose it as a small pry bar, probably not much demand for its original purpose any more. Stumbled across another Craftsman drill press with the slow speed pulley, a 100 model, nice shape but the original Craftsman motor bearings are kind of loud. Found the Ariens zero turn mower on the Let Go app for $500, needed a couple minor repairs, really like it, actually don't mind mowing the weeds now. And last is a Torco by Wilton vise. Had just told myself "Don't buy any more 3" to 4" exposed screw home owner type vises" and that had to show up at the flea market. Never saw one before, so that rule went right out the window.

Wednesday's flea market haul.....

These (rusty) sockets in the back row are:
Short ones......3 Williams and a Craftsman
Deep ones.......1 Williams and 3 Craftsman

The small front row sockets are:
1 Proto, 4 S-K, 8 Craftsman and 1 deep Gearwrench.....

Assorted wrenches/Craftsman ignition wrenches.....3 pair of no name pliers......toenail clippers.....

Nice 1/2" shank 5/8" diameter drill bit.....

Two large rusty chrome hooks.....I wire brushed the worst looking one and it came pretty clean so I know the other one will clean up nicely too......

And now the best part of the haul.....a small 1/4"-9/32" Snap-On box wrench, a small 1/4" dr. Mac extension, a 3/8" dr. 11/32" Snap-On socket....

By the time the money flinging was done I was out $8 bucks for everything..... :thumbup:

I would be willing to bet that grinder is made by Baldor for JC Penny. It looks very similar to one I recently restored myself

The freeze plug installation tool is a lifesaver and pretty inexpensive when you think of the labor it saves! Nice pick up on the cman 100 Dp as well!

Picked this up the other day, it was mounted to a piece of wood (could have been part of a table). The word Priscilla is visible on the arm of the tool; the style of the wing nut tells me this is probably 19th century. Any ideas on what it may have been used for ? I'm thinking maybe a cobbler's vise or something along that line ?

Looks like a vulcanizing clamp for patching inner tubes. It may be missing a spreader piece on the screw.

I went just for the drill press it was at a storage unit. The owner opens the door to the unit and says see anything else you want I look around pic out the buffer and Gerstner and say how much for all three, he was asking $75 for the drill, he thinks about and says $300 I say ok :bounce:

. I need to get the washers for one side of the Baldor, TXinAZ said he can make me some so he gets to go through the Gernstner and take what he needs. I think the thing on the end is just a counter weight for the buffer need to take it apart tonight and figure it out.

Stopped at a yard sale this morning and bought a few items.

Pic 1--Dewalt case with miscellaneous driver bits, a Companion grinder stand, a 4 step pulley, box of drywall screws and a lantern style Dietz of Syracuse NY Model 40 Traffic Gard with a red Kopp globe (which may not be original).

The Dietz is around 8-1/2" T or 14-1/2" if wire handle is placed in up position. Bottom of base is 7-1/4" wide.

Missing the original fuel cap cover, but does have pin hole in bottom base so no fuel can be put into it anyway.

Last pic was the surprise, as the base was too dirty for me to read it, when first got it.

Found a site that collects info on "special markings" on the Dietz Model 40 Traffic Gards.

Said that Dietz required purchaser to buy minimum of 12 dozen (144) in order for them to build the special markings onto that lantern.

Not much today. OTC pickle fork (1940's) and another addition to the research library. The postal code on the hardware store catalog is no earlier than 1943 and no later than 1963. Also has an old telephone exchange based number on the title page inside (BArclay 7-0410-11-12-13). Based on the contents, I'm guessing also 1940's.
