The Acesa plier looks somehow german.... USAG also has german ones .....:
Before everybody offered the Grip-On pliers the Bollmann dude to whom, i spoke with said that they supplied a lot to other "manufaturers" but the Grip-On ones have a lower purchase price (lower labor costs and raw material costs in spain)

Interesting design and looks quite similar to the one I posted with Stahlwille labeling which looks really superior to anything else. I am still trying to find who is the real maker of this pliers but with no luck.

ok the Wezag lady called back: The "old" design is simply the 7" version of the locking pliers, the larger sizes 10" + have the "new" style. She said you can`t offer the same 30 years old style to your customers all the time so thats why it was changed somewhen. But locking pliers (and punch pliers) are only a secondary business, so their catalog also dont show all locking pliers products they make, their main product are the crimping pliers. Without the crimping pliers they probably wouldn`t exist anymore due to the imports and competition in the locking pliers market. But they still make them and supply to wholesalers and companies like Stahlwille and Gedore etc.

btw:
these ones are also from Wezag (even if they don`t appear in their catalog) like i already thought:

Note the different "upper body" without the notch near the jaws (compared to the Gedore catalog pics + USAG) and different release levers and knurlings.

VICE GRIP....... Number 1

Maybe a decade or 2 ago.... With the difficulty of finding US made vice grips and the easy availability of German tools now in the US, they don't have much stake in the premium market.

This thread just reminded me that I really want those Stahlwille pliers. The flat pair, and the needle nose.

Crescent 10 inch curved jaw locking pliers are my favorite as the are well built and allow for a really aggressive "forced" clamp, with out distortion or jumping loose.

Please tell me which brand of curved jaw locking pliers are the best and strongest. Price is not a problem. I have tried several Asian, American, and European brands and have not been impressed with their durability or general quality.

Regards.

Hello Adrian,
Well I know lots of people will stare at me in disbelief when I tell them this, but in my opinion, the best locking pliers around today are made by Stanley.

They are the strongest and best out of the many units I have tested. What's more they are relatively cheap!

The lockjaw variety are hard to use in my opinion and badly designed from an ergonomic standpoint.

Regards,
Mark.

Sorry for resurrecting a zombi, but, where's the love for the facom t5?
They also have a whole range of other unique locking grip goodies.
Just watch out for some of the one's made in StanleyVille that are slipping into
the product line. Can't miss: They're absolutely wretched looking.

I see many suggestions and no clear front runner. Isn't there a brand that most agree is the very best? Again, price is not an issue.

Snap Ons are still rebranded Grip-Ons correct?
They look identical. They're priced similarly too. I'd rather have the Snap Ons so I can get warranty work on them

The Grip-On branded tools are really good. You can buy them from Amazon or chadstoolbox, or get them re-branded as Proto or Snap-On.

yeah. I had ordered them on amazon but noticed that they're the same price as the snap ons... I know it'll be easier to get a warranty replacement if they're snap on branded rather than grip-on (I couldn't find any warranty info on the Grip-On site)

I'll pay the extra $1-2 for Snap On to take ownership of issues.

I haven't tested all of them on the market but Armstrong's locking pliers are supposed to be made out of high alloy steel. They are supposed to be stronger than the regular vise grip pliers.

I now use nothing but Grip-On or the new Milwaukee and yes. I own "the others". I've heard the Petersen fanboy chant over Grip-On having "soft" teeth but maybe I don't pry enough diamonds or twist out enough solid carbide bits but I've yet to see it.The tightness and design of the release mechanism is far far ahead of the old style Petersen and new Irwin halfass Petersen wanna be.
The Toptul are pretty nice, well priced and might come off the same line as the Milwaukee ?

^^^^Yeah, I've moved primarily to Milwaukee locking c-clamps w fixed pad and swivel pad for all hot works where I'm not using sliding F-clamps. They're excellent and I choose them over my equivalent Petersens every time. I really should sell off my old Petersens and replace w 100% Milwaukee.

COO, whatever. A better product is a better product. And the U.S. versions are just collectors' items now anyway.

Best bang for the buck when buying new readily available locking pliers is the Milwaukee branded versions at Home Depot. Very inexpensive for the quality
