Thanks. I actually just passed the two month mark. I completely ran out of steam today. Those two nights shifts at work were busy and it took it's toll on me. I achieved absolutely nothing.

On the plus side the insulation does seem to be making a difference.

Not only with the temperature but with sound. We have a hall across the street where they have receptions and other things. Not very often do these events take place their but they do. Before the insulation, every time someone shut their car door it sounded like they were in my driveway and i had to go out and look to see if someone was at my house. I dont hear a thing from across the street now! Even though were in the city (a very very small town), we live on a dead end type street (has an alley you can take to get out at the end) and the hall across the street so we dont have much as far as neighbors so its really nice.

Interesting. I hope the reverse is true as well and keeps the noise to a minimum so the neighbours and/or wife don't get annoyed by my tinkering.

Today's progress: Last coat of polyurethane on the window trim stock. Rewired the heater so it works with a thermostat. (that was a *****). Installed the garage door opener. Installed the ceiling fan.

Tomorrow: Door and window trim. Spray foam doors and windows. Caulk caulk caulk.

I still have yet to make a decision about what to do with the floor. I don't feel like spending the money on a two part epoxy system and it is also very hard to find anything in Canada.

Floor paint works decent but has to be touched up here and there...I stained mine with Acid etch and clear coated with anti slip media from Legacy industrial....I still like it.

I was looking at something like rust bullet. The problem is trying to find any of the stuff up here or getting it from the US without paying outrageous fees.

It does, lol.

Excellent because in the last couple of days I used some very creative curses and it's probably best if the neighbours didn't hear them

Today: Getting there. Trim is all done. Clean up underway. Soon it will be time to sort out storage and work bench but first I have to do something with the floor.

I chose blue for the window trim and the finest 2X4s and 1X6 strapping I could find. Wife doesn't think the blue matches exactly. Apparently the green goes very well with the wood grain panels but the blue is a little off. I see where she is coming from.

Here the saw setting slipped and wasn't cut at 45. Pissed me off because I didn't have any left over blue wood due to previous mistakes. I guess I will just live with it and use it as a reminder to always double check settings.

I still don't know what colour to do with door and the attic hatch.

The heater and opener all installed.

The rest are just shots of what it looks like now.

im with yah man. I had my doors completed on my cabinet and then i put them up to the cabinet and realized i cut them to the size of the opening instead of 2" bigger like i wanted. i made them the correct width luckily, b/c then i wouldve had to rebuild them. I wanted them 2" taller so they covered the opening. Since it was a garage workbench i didnt worry too much about rebuilding them. you can kinda see then white door stops at then top center of the doors. they wouldve been covered, lol. Thats my reminder to test fit 1 door before i cut and assemble all 4, haha!! i had measured twice and cut once but to the wrong dimension.

also, what type of lights did you hang up. They are really bright! you happen to have a link so i can read the specs?

POS costco specials they had at the time. Bright may be an illusion due to the camera settings.

Luminus LED Shop Light. 4000K, 4000 lumens, 40W, less than $40.

oldman that is shaping up to be a pretty sweet space! I like the different colours...

About the gap in your one miter cut - looks like you have a lot of reveal left to play with. You could always pull the trim and re-cut with a smaller (or no) reveal. Only need to make 4 cuts to do this.

Ottawa...my original home town.

I hear what you are saying but I nailed it down pretty good that I don't think I could get it out with out taking a lot of the other trim with it. Maybe one day if I am really bored I will do it all over again.

If you have any small scraps left over, you might consider cutting small pieces to cover the gaps. They would look like intentional trim features instead of a mistake cover-up.

I liked your color scheme right up until you put the blue in there. As for the gap, I'd just do a couple caulk applications then paint it.

Well, I made a tire rack and a track rack. Not my finest structural feat, I am a little unsure of the tire rack if the hooks in the wall will hold.

I think I may have found a way to fix it...or make it worse.

I chose a third colour to try to balance things out. I am not sure it worked. The red I thought I was getting is not the red I got. I guess I will wait for the jury to deliberate its verdict.

Is that stain or paint?
IMHO the red looks closer to brown.
Brown works better with green and tan than blue.

It's stain. It's a red with a bit of purple from the looks of it. Camera phone probably not doing it justice due to the lights.

Stain: Minwax antique red.

Not much has happened in the last few days. Floor stuff is in the mail and I am going to start to clean and etch the floor Monday. Today I might do a bit of caulking and sealing. I suppose I have to take the hoist down now.

Through various places I purchased some storage cabinets. Not the prettiest but they were the most economical. Debating if/how to paint them.

Scuff them good with a 3M pad , clean them and spray them with hammertone finish spray paint...very nice and forgiving.

If you are wanting to caulk the joints between the panels, run masking tape on either side, caulk, then peel the tape off. Makes a nice straight line.

The floor paint finally came in.

Before and after the first coat. Still wet in the picture.

I'm using rust bullet and I etched the floor a little as per Justin's (Garageflooringllc) advice. It seems I must have had micro surface crack or something because this effect started happening. Weird.

Two coats complete. It's no longer wet.

Overall I am fairly happy so far with rust bullet but it is way to early to tell. I can still see some roller marks but I knew that to be expected. Price you pay for not paying an expensive price compared to a full 2 part epoxy job.

First coat was 1 gal & 1 qt. Second coat was 1 gal & 1 qt. I have 2 qts left over, I don't think that is enough to attempt to do one light coat.

Unless you mask off the high traffic areas and do a 3rd coat

Well, for some reason or another not much has happened in the last week. I had to wait for the paint to dry. Then I reinstalled the hoists. Then of course there was work over Christmas. The last couple of days, however, I made head way with my work bench.

It is build out of 8 steel filing cabinets and 3 solid core fire doors. I still have some work work to do but this is how it stands.

This is what the inside of a door looks like.

This is what a door looks like if I whip a hammer at it multiple times at an unsupported edge.

Poor QA/QC. Door was made in Canada back in 1998.

The paint was rustoleum hammered. I am not overly happy with it but it's not bad. Does hide stuff nicely. I still have to put edges on the whole thing. I am also going to put 1/4 hardboard down on top. Although, I do like the look of the black bench top. It wasn't intentional, the doors just came that way.

The doors I got for free and the filing cabinets I got at surplus auction for dirt cheap considering what they would go for new. I just wasn't in the mood to drop some serious coin on some NewAge stuff.

Night time shot from a few days ago.

I'm glad I stumbled back onto this thread (thought I had subscribed, guess not). All I can say is wow you've been busy! Fantastic work!

Its always good to aim for perfection, but don't sweat it too much when you miss a little. The floors and workbench look great. Can't wait to see what's next!

Thank you for the kind words.

I painted my 3 big cabinets yesterday. Again, it was with that hammered paint. I still so so about it. I seem to go through a lot of it so it gets expensive.

The cabinets themselves are all steel and all surplus. A word on weight, some of them are heavy, real heavy. The small two drawer cabinets are at least 75lbs a piece if not more. They have counter weights at the back which makes them very awkward to carry. The two large cabinets are light as you would suspect and the old filing shelves are unexpectedly heavy.

Hopefully this allows me to start putting a lot of my stuff away.

Enough room for the smaller sized spary cans but not enough room for spray bottles.

A bunch of stencils I found in one of the drawers. Where ever these came from I am sure they knew how to have a good time. Liquid rocket, practice harpoon, and guided attack missiles. Good times to be had by all!

I finished my work bench and some storage. Tomorrow I begin to fill the garage up. Unfortunately tomorrow is only suppose to get to a high of 10F. I'm going to need a sweater.

That roll out looks really nice there...I may have missed it but what did you use for tops? MDF?

They are solid core doors I got for free topped with floating 1/4" hardboard. I am still trying to decide if I just wax the hardboard, poly it, or just leave it.
