Great job on the subwoofer box. For someone with not a lot of experience you did an exceptional job. I used to make dozens of boxes just like that in my younger days. It takes me back.
To test for "air-tight-ed-ness" push the one subwoofer in and see if the other one pops out and stays there. If not, you have a leak. More than likely you'll get leaks around the subs and the wire connector if you mounted them over top of the carpet. For the best possible result, cut the carpet away and use silicone. It seems like a minor detail, but it makes a big difference in sound quality and "punch".
