Great ideas here! I don't spend enough time getting things organized. Sounds like a great winter project. When I get into it, I'll post some pictures as well. Keep those ideas coming.

No kidding - there are some great ideas here. I saw two that I can definitely use. I am tired of the paint cans sitting around everywhere - they are about to be elevated!!!!

Zeppe807, glad to see someone else has those braided, red, craftsman air hoses. The ones I have must be over 30 years old and still going strong.

I had lots of drill bits laying around so I sharpened them all on my Drill Doctor and organized them by size, placing them in a nut & bolt container. Now I have a freshly sharpened drill bit whenever I need one.................

I built the overhead shelves hanging from the rafters. The rest is just a hodgepodge of shelves and cabinets I had laying around or found at garage sales, etc.

The funnel drip collector is a bit of a "Rube Goldberg contraption"....but I gotta admit I kinda like it.

Tell me about this Drill Doctor thing? I have meant to post a htread asking how you guys are sharpening old drill bits - I have LOTS of them - and this organization of them is sheer genius - THANKS! for the idea. I like the zip tie organization too. I wonder if they would fit in a Plano box though like I have all my other miscellaneous bits?

Everyone keeps cans of extra house paint, but you really don't need it often. So, I jacked it up via these hangers. To prevent sag in one board, I added a rib under it. I really like these.

I'd think about putting a lip around the edge of that shelf...you wouldn't want a can of paint falling off on your car, or on your head. :)

I was just thinking about the shelves in my garage - over time, stuff tends to vibrate off shelves from overhead doors opening and closing, and slamming the entry door.

Yeah, the funnel system looks kinda funky but works great!

Dan, this thing is the best and easiest to use bit sharpener I've ever seen! Once you get the hang of it, it goes quickly and smooth. I probably had 75 or 80 bits laying around and a little over an hour later they were all sharp as new! Price has gone up though. I paid a little over $60 when I bought mine! Check Ebay. You might be able to find it a little cheaper. The 350X is too small and the 750X is too much IMHO. The 500X sharpens up to 1/2" which worked fine for me.

Evintho,
I'm up late tonight surfing around so I did just that - went to CL and to Ebay. All the 500X's were about $100. I did find one used 350X on CL (but too far away) and it was only $45 asking price. I think I will put one of these on my wish list. Thanks for the head's up.

Any more progress on the drill press resto? I haven't touched mine since last week. I can't beleive Sears didn't have ONE pair of snap ring pliers of any kind. So I went to HF and bought their POS ones with multple jaws. If it works once I won't mind for only $5.99. Ironically, I saw nearly the exact same pliers for sale at OSH this weekend for $19.99! Anyway, rambling. Talk with you later. Hope your New Years day was a happy one. Best, Dan

Where can these be found. I have a few bins for reloading ammo. Where can I find these with the board to mount them on.

if you can't find the rack at a reasonable price you can use a section of "wired" shelving. hang it flat to the wall with the wires horizontal and those bins slip right on.

Northern tool sells those. I have three of those louvered mounting plates. Stacked on top of each other. Used all blue bins and then built a cabinet around the whole works with two doors to make it look good.

The louvered panels at Northern arent cheap though. $30 each. I believe $8 for 6 blue bins.

Instead of using the louvered panels above we have used sickle mower blades. Due to haying and mowing we have a seemingly endless supply of used ones. We turn them so the blade points down and use a washer or two to shim them out from the wall and viola mounting spot for the plastic tubs.

This is my nut and bolt storage area. I love nuts and bolts. Never throw them out and am always on the lookout for them on the jobsites that I'm on. The bolt bins and the louvers they hang on are from Northern Tool. Then I just framed a 2x8 frame around the whole thing and put doors on it. The other smaller bins are for smaller nuts, bolts and trinkets.

damn that storage cabinet is awesome. it defintely cleans it up. especially when you have that many nuts, bolts, screws, etc. i'm definitely stealing this idea but on a smaller scale.

Thanks guys. Pretty easy to make. Build a frame out of 2x6, 2x8, whatever. Mount that to the wall. Then screw a sheet of plywood or whatever you want to use as the door, I used industrial particle board. Then attach the hinges. I used some regular door hinges I had. Once I had the hinges on I took out the screws I used to hold the particle board onto the frame. Then I snapped a line down the middle and cut it with a circular saw, thus giving me the two doors that close nice and tight together. Some hardware to hold the doors shut, some wooden knobs, paint and done.
That's the way I did it. Simple and cheap.

I made another, even bigger to hold all my automotive stuff like oils, cleaners, paint supplies, garden stuff, etc. Went to take a picture of that for this thread and wouldn't you know it, camera battery dies.

i gues i have the same affliction with nuts and bolts. :lol_hitti
ive got 3 or 4 large acrobins full of OEM bolts, every time i scrap out a truck, we usually salvage and engine/trans, body panels, or axles. i take out a lot of nuts and bolts when possible, i always seem to loose one bolt from the time i teardown to the time i reassemble my truck.
ive got 5 or 6 hardware bins that are full of smaller rod ends, heavy washers, hold down knobs, and just general "stuff" that always comes in handy

It's definately an addiction for me. One of my hobbies is going to auctions. There's always a box or two of misc nut, bolts, nails, etc. And I almost always buy them.

I'm also a dumpster diver at work. You wouldn't believe the stuff that gets thrown away at ig construction sites. I've found boxes of large bolts, concrete anchors, etc before. I was like a kid at Christmas. Guys at work just shake their head.

Those little storage units on the right side are almost full.

i used to pick up a lot of stuff dumpster diving, small pieces of scrap angle iron and channel that i used to make mounts and brackets. all the pipe i used for my bumpers and rock sliders was picked up as scrap on various jobsites.

most of my halloween decorations were picked up on jobsites too. 2 55gallon plastic barrels that were transformed into toxic waste drums, all the piping for my fog machines. broken pieces of 2" rigid foam insulation that were used to make headstones. even the PVC pipe that i made air cylinders out of were dumpster salvage.

i have several tool boxes that were dumpster finds, one of em was even a snapon roller cab that fell out of a pickup while the guy was moving it.

:wtf::wtf::confused::headscrat

(Puts on helmet and flame suit. Starts popcorn on stove).

i made up some cheap air operated cylinders to "pop up" ghosts out of a big jack in the box, and an old storage trunk took a piece of 1 1/2 PVC pipe 30" long, fitted a rubber sink stopper to slide in it, then mounted the stopper to the end of another piece of 1" PVC, slid them together, drilled and tap 1/4" pipe thread in the bottom of the outer pipe and connected an air line from there to an old washing machine water valve solenoid from the other side of the solenoid through a regulator to the compressor
rigged up the ghost with a couple of bungee cords to keep it from flying apart and to return it into the box
made up a simple electrical box with a couple of outlets and switches to turn the solenoids on and off from around the side of the house.
scared the **** out of several people with this set up one year at halloween.

found most of my ideas on the 'net, searched "halloween props" and found tons of info

You, my friend, are a genius! This is a wonderful idea. I've got a bunch of this shelving laying around, and now I know how to put it to good use!

The guys at work just shake their heads because they just go home, sit down, watch TV, and drink beer.

Storage idea - coiled air hoses!

Hanging coiled air hoses always presented a problem for me. Hanging them just stretched out the coil and they "grew" beyond their unique feature and they took up way too much space when placed on a shelf.

My solution - I built an "L" shaped storage bracket under a bench to slide the coil over and out of the way. In the picture below you can see a couple of air hose coils resting on two longer portions of "L" brackets, which are made out of a 1x3 board. When I need the hose I just slide it off the bracket.

A modification I have wanted to make is to place a swiveling "stop" block of wood at the end of the bracket to hold the coils that are stretched beyond their normal length and just need time to shrink back into shape (the top part of the added stop would be attached to the bench bottom and hang down to stop the coil from sliding off the end of the bracket). If/when I make this modification I'll update the post.
