Just came upon this thread. Love it! Amazed to see how many of the same things have been done, and some things I did that others did independently. My mods are mostly on the thrifty side. Put a video on YouTube with them:

Can someone tell me what the dimensions are of the top area under the lid, that I'd call the socket area. Not including the side wings for ratchets/screwdrivers etc.. I'm trying to figure out how many Hansen style trays I could fit in there, and my nearest store isn't around the corner.

I am continuing on my goal to get organized with this cart. Made a custom socket organizer (see a few posts back) and now moved on to the wrenches. I used the full width shallow drawer and laser cut a custom organizer for the wrenches.

It is a complete set... the two hinges are not exactly the same... one is a simple hinge... the second one in the package includes the "lock" slide that must be pulled up when you want to lower the lid.

Got the 5 drawer cart today!
I will be using it for air tools.
Only mod so far is to add air hose reel.
I will try to figure out a way to pull the hose from the front instead of the rear as shown.
Also will shorten the air input hardware and point it to the front and anchor it once I get those parts.

Been modding things around the shop to make storage easier and more fluid for thirty years... and those hammer holders are genius simplicity. I created some similar pvc holders that I mounted under the cabinets on one of my benches a couple years ago for my cordless impacts and drills. Super simple, clean, easy, organized and and effective.

This isn't a HF cart -(I just bought the black 5 drawer though), but you guys will love this cart. Just fast forward a bit to the 3 minute mark.. check out the lid...

I like that! I'd be really loving it if he incorporated some kind of locking lid over those screw drivers. The draining lid would be handy for dropping brake calipers and such onto. Not sure I'd cut up a snap on road chest, but I still dig it.

I picked one up the other day to down size my work box. My original plan was to go tool clips on the lid to hold ratchets and extensions, but then I found these magnetic panels that help me free up a ton of space:

Amazon or Sears have them. So far everything holds quite well, and if you shut the lid and beat on the back of it a bit only the short heavy extension will move. They just don't have enough contact with the magnet to stay put.

Anyone have a link to replacement lid shocks that will fit the older 4-drawer? I saw many people upgrade the 5-drawer carts but didn't see it on the black 4-drawer - perhaps I missed it?
I lost some hardware for my hinges and it could be a nice opportunity to replace with a shock instead of finding new hardware and reinstalling the original hinges.

Has anyone compared the new 90* lid struts on the 5-drawer cart to the old ones? I'd like to add the new ones to my old cart.

Think you will need to add an "Ear" to the bottom mount... Check the pictures of the new one.

You know, that's a good idea. I have a Buick and a few old lawn tractors that use SAE. I could take your idear and run with it.
So glad I found this thread! Been lurking for a few weeks and finally after much debate, and 2 stores last night i have a red box!
I debagged, and removed the chrome. Bought the fold out tray with it. Going to get the red power strip tonight, and start getting this thing filled.
Next mods are going to be some sort of non slip material for the top of the box and the side tray.

I want my old HF box badge to match the one on my new 5-drawer.
Unfortunately it kinda self destructed when removed. Ill take some pics and post them up tonight.

What is the sale price on the series 2? I see $170 on hfqbd, that price and the blue color is making my wallet nervous. But I already have a 2 drawer husky cart I got for $40 that I beat the hell out of. At least I can beat that one without feeling bad, if I got one of these blue ones I'd be upset if I just scratched the thing.
