Thanks for starting the discussion!

I've been talking to Wright, SK and Norseman about possible promotions. I'm really hoping SK's 1/4 and 1/2 drive ratchets will be out by then. I'm working with Wright on a ratchet promotion as well. Not sure what we can do with norseman, but we'll definitely get something together for you guys by July 4th. As far as shipping, we can't do free, but what I can promise that we'll discount it to what it actually costs, as opposed to what the shipping calculator figures it to be.

I'll keep you guys posted on any developments.
Thanks again for supporting Epstein's and US made tools!

I guess it's time to make this thread a Sticky.

Yes, if we can get the new SK ratchets with the GREEN selector. Even better, the new 1/4" with green selector.

So what all does Epstein's Day consist of. I didn't get to participate last year because I wasn't a member yet. I've got a list of things I've been wanting to order, so now would be the right time. Somebody mentioned they got t-shirts?

Each year, on the 4th of July, HJE hosts a special event for GJ members. There are usually some sale items available, and Jori often works with a few of his vendors to offer additional deals. Each year a special t-shirt is designed as a thank you, and is available with qualifying purchases.

HOWEVER, it should be noted, that this event ISN'T about what HJE can do for us. The event is about what we can do for HJE.

This event is about GJ members supporting a small American business (mostly by buying US made tools) by spending our tool dollars at a Ma & Pa store in the heartland, rather than at the local corporate big box stores full of imports that don't support American jobs as much as they could.

In the past, our involvement in this event has significantly boosted one store's ability to stay in business (consequentially adding to their local economy), bounced that same store up several degrees on one manufacturers purchasing chain (resulting in better pricing and profit margins), boosted one manufacturer's ability to rebuild and hire back unemployed former employees, and caused another manufacturer to hire new employees while expanding.

So, the annual HJE Day event is about supporting the US economy, not about "what can I get for cheap".

At this point I'm at a point where I don't really need to buy any more tools. Ever. But, I still make an effort to make a purchase on HJE Day because I believe in what the event stands for.
So, once again, I'm in.

I'm with the others who are longing to see SK make the 1/4" and 1/2" LP90 ratchets available in time for this year's event. GREEN please. :bounce:

So is this an actual open day at the brick and mortar store too? Or just online/group buy in type of deal?

Also one day only? July 4th?

Cheers
Rob

I'm not sure if the store is open or not, I suspect not (if only to let the employees get some rest before we hammer them with an unbearable load of orders in a short time).

In years past, Jori has sometimes extended the time available for ordering, depending on what's going on at the store. With the 4th on a Monday this year, who knows how long the window will be open. But plan on one day, and watch this thread for more complete details from Jori as we get closer to the day.

Oh, and for those of you inclined to ask for box art ———> put your thinking caps on and get creative.

Thanks for the info. I will watch with bated breath! Never ordered from HJE before (was turned onto them by Garnett Tools YT vids) but keep seeing many tantalizing tools I want, so will be sure to make an order on the day if not sooner!

I was broke last year.... won't happen again! Lets go Norseman!!!

I'm down for the annual sale. But if Norseman are back on the list I'll pass. That set I got from you guys last year was complete junk. Nothing against you guys as it's the only product I've ever bought that wasn't top notch. But I sure was thoroughly disappointed.

Thanks for sharing. I read several people was unhappy with the Norseman bits from last year's event but I didn't know why.

They won't handle the least bit of heat. Even in 1/8" mild steel they can't handle back to back holes and immediately go to ****. The first time it happened. Thought it was a complete fluke. But 4 bits with identical issues, not a chance. I have had a few sets of Norseman and never experienced anything like this. Matter of fact my Norseman jobber master set is now close to 20yrs old and other then the typical dulling that occurs with good sets, they've never lost their edge.

Nice to see this happening again. I really do wish SK could roll out more variants of the lp90 ratchets and X frame ratchet wrenches. I've had several sets of gearwrench ratcheting wrenches that are okay, but I've noted that they tend to fall apart on me. My x-frame set is in another league, but they would be much more useful with flex heads. Working on automotive stuff I often can't utilize a 0 offset tool. Similarly, a standard length fixed head ratchet is not super useful to me. What frustrates me about this is I would imagine that developing the mechanism is where SK has to spend a lot of time and money in research and development, and putting simple variations like a flex head into production seems easy. But I don't run a tool company.

I like you have lots of Norseman bits but never had any trouble, just a suggestion but maybe contact HJE and ask them to send the set to Norseman and have them look them over for a defective batch. I would guess Norseman would replace the set.

I just don't feel like wasting my time dealing with it. ive mouthed off before and no one has raised their hand to look into it so fug it. Its bad enough to watch a $100 bill instantly deteriorate, why toss a 20 spot on as a blanket with shipping it back. I just will not buy Norseman bits anymore. However I do like the case, maybe I'll load some quality bits in it for a road set. :spit:

I will be in for four or five (holiday gift giving) IF they have the green selector!

Pretty sure SK says they eliminated that to streamline production. Realistically, I doubt color would last long in that location anyway.

Regardless of color, it's a nice ratchet. Smaller head than a GW 84 tooth. What's not to like? I did have to adjust the faceplate screws a bit to get the reversing level stiffness where I wanted it. Odd design, it is very sensitive to the pressure on those screws.

How about a pocket shirt or hat?

I got some slings from them last month to make loading my engine driven compressor easier.

What about an open house event? I have been to the store a few times, as I have a brother in KC. It is worth the time to take a half day and explore.

I just randomly was thinking about HJE Day 2018, and figured there would be a thread here on it!

It's on the calendar for me. One of these days my work will take me to KC - one of the only cities I've not visited for work over the past 12 years!

I love supporting them. Good people.
