It’s 34 inches wide. To me it looks like the same orange from my riser box underneath the red

That was MBC's version of the snap on roll a bench. Should be a redish orange. Glad someone got it, saw it listed and resisted the temptation.

Here is one I hope someone can ID. A fairly small three drawer carry box at 22" x 10" tall x 7" deep. Very solid construction though with robust hardware and it weighs 25# empty. The drawer pulls are just holes for a finger to fit and they are on both front and back of the drawers so you can put them in either way and they work the same. Plain slides with no stops. There's also room under the bottom drawer for more tools but you would have to pull the drawer clear out for access. Military maybe? Also a couple bonus pics of a small two compartment box that's kind of neat. Hope someone knows what this is, no marks I could find. Ed.

Hello, Oregon,

You have one of several varieties of military issue spare parts kit boxes/chests, probably of WW2 vintage, and probably for comms radio or other electronic equipment. The drawer dividers were specially arranged to hold specific parts, and boxes of small parts, and the kits were issued with all the spare parts neatly packaged, in the box.

Back 20-some years ago, when we were dealing in surplus military commo gear, we had a few of those come up in surplus lots, strays from WW2 and the early-mid 1950's.

cheers

Thanks Carla, I know the smaller two compartment box was surely for radio or electronic repair and one compartment still holds capacitors and the other resistors. I wasn't so sure on the three drawer chest but I don't doubt you are right. It also reminds me of a box that would have been provided with equipment that had many small attachments similar to the boxes that held valve grinding bits when you bought the grinder. Also the divider in at least one drawer tapers like for holding progressively smaller sockets or bushing drivers or something like that. Ed.

From Craigslist.

If the silver color is original this is pretty unique.

Rag: those old Kennedy boxes are built like tanks too so I probably would have paid a bit more to not leave that behind too.

Liquid: pretty good size Proto box for that kind of money. looks like the guy with spraying it black taped off the logo so it might be a solid box that he just wanted to spiff up a bit. if the drawers work ok i'd probably buy it.

also WELCOME TO GJ and hope you get to know a few of us and enjoy this place as much as I (we) do.

Yes, it was red for sure. I had the larger version of that box.

$35 is a fair price. All you have to do is remove the handles and polish them up and they will look great against the flat black.

My neighbor from the LA area brought me an unusual Kennedy box that looks to be wartime to me. I checked all of the Kennedy flyers on Tool Archives and didn’t see this particular box. Here are several pictures.

I could only check back to 1935. Here is a shot of the bottom of the interior of the box and some letters stenciled on the side of the box.

I like those. Great for a tool set for your trunk

Thats a good idea! gonna clean it up in the next day or two!

I was surprised to see it priced so low! Grabbed it right up. Figured it was pretty old with the leather handle.

I think it pre-dates 1935

There's a few ways to date the Kennedy boxes. I have a machinist chest from the teens.

Leather Handle, forget when they switched to plastic

Any name on the lock? Forget what brand name off the top of my head mine is, but wasn't stamped Kennedy.

And I think differences in the logo going back that far too.

Don,
That's the kind of neighbor we all hope for! Can I borrow him for a year or two?

We’ve been friends since High School and we both know what each other likes. It’s funny when we go to the flea together because we sometimes are grabbing the tools out of each other’s hands!
