Shanny -That's a keeper sorry. Mike - That makes sense. I have a big *** railroad screwdriver, but I can certainly see how one would get a better bite in the slot and more leverage with a DLB on the end of a ratchet or hinge handle.

Out to a few Thurs sales, but only picked up one item.

A Variac Type W20M Auto Transformer by General Radio Co of Concord, Mass.

Seller showed me that it worked, and I'm thinking it might be a good item to have for my old wood lathe which I have to currently change the belt to other pulleys to slow or speed it up.

Mid week flea market finds.

Pic 3- wrenches- Bonney doe, 2 Mac combos, Snap On and S-K combos

Pic 4- rescued these wrenches from an untimely demise with the lady who leaves everthing in the rain.
Larcoloy Chicago self adjusting wrench, 2 Hazet doe, Hazet dbe, 2 Dowidat doe, Snap On 18mm combo, P&C 3/8 breaker bar.

Pic 5 cast iron foot peg with no markings, Any ideas? Looks like some Honda I think.
Armstrong C clamp, Snap On puller jaw, Another Craftsman Ford style adjustable

Pic 6 1” drive Williams Sliding T bar, missing the ball, but I have extra heads for it.

That's a neat hammer. I've got a couple of those double D sockets in snap on, something to do with carburetors IIRC.

Just a guess, but it kinda looks like the socket could fit the end of an axle on a bike.

Good lord, that 1" drive sliding T is beast! Nice find. Do you plan on trying to repair the missing detent ball?

Only if your lathe motor is a universal type motor (ie has carbon brushes). Variacs don't work for split phase induction style motors.

I'm going to show my ignorance here. What exactly are those for? I have a couple but I've never tried using them. I've never seen anyone else use one either. Is it a specialty tool? Im guessing just for tighter spaces?

Small estate sale pile. Garage was huge and full of stuff but it must have been picked over. All I could find was a couple SK 1/2" sockets, a plomb 9/16, plomb and proto ignition wrenches, a Walden universal, a Craftsman metric socket tray and a hout drill index.

Picked this Kennedy 6-drawer machinist's chest up this morning off CL. Most of the tools are not keepers for me. I'll keep the Channel lock pliers, Klein pair of dykes, small Proto combo wrench, a few other things. You can see the left hinge is a bit boogered up but it opens and closes just fine. I was shocked to see Kennedy sells these boxes for $650+! It looked like MSC had them for $550+. That's crazy. I'll resell the box and the rest of the tools locally on CL.

That last pic is of some kind of puller. What is this for and does anyone know who made it? Is it US made or Asian?

If you slide the head all the way to the end of the bar, you can use a Sliding Tee to turn an attached socket just like you would use a hinge handle/flex head ("breaker bar") or ratchet (or in the old days, an L-handle) with as much or as little swinging room as those handles would be afforded in the same space. If you keep the head in the middle, and you have a wide space around the nut or bolt, you can use it to turn an attached socket like a crank. If it's any consolation, I bet a lot of guys would consider them redundant.

Check out how chalky and heavy the wartime finish (some kind of phosphate wash, probably zinc) is on these NX-20B's!

In the middle position, the handles have enough balanced weight you can give it a spin and run a free running nut all the way in or out, and they don't hinge unexpectedly when using a cheater bar.

The hammer may be the best find. I got it at a fair price. I’m surprise to find several unusual hammers in the same week.

I have an unusual Special made Williams “single D” shaped socket, in 1/2” drive. Maybe comparable in size to a 5/8 socket or so. I would love to know what that was for. I have to find and post that some day.

The part number is 57001-172. Google says it may be a piston holding socket.

I don’t. Never tried to replace a missing ball.

One fell swoop Army surplus buy. I got a bunch of 1-inch sockets and some big *** DOE and DBE wrenches in the same lot. All they're doing is weighing down the bottom drawers on my cabinet! :lol:

My knowledge on electric is worse than poor.

My Walker Turner wood lathe is powered by an old 1/2 hp Craftsman motor, so would the Variac not work on it.

The badge on the black/blue motor is hard to read, but is their something on that motor badge which could confirm whether the Variac would work on it?

BTW, appreciate your help on this.

Not a tool, but I stopped at a yard sale on the way home from work today and picked this up for $5. It's marked sterling silver (not silver plate) on the bottom.

That weird shape on the side is a reflection - the cup (or vase or whatever it is) is in great condition, it just needs a polish.

The last week has had its ups and downs. I made two trips to ReStore and spent $7 and $8.50, respectively. I picked up some other items from a different stop, which included a lathe but also included the lathe being laid down. I'm pretty aggravated about that one so I won't talk about it, though I'll still come out well ahead. It ended on a better note that I'll detail in the next post.

I came across a Facebook marketplace ad for an Atlas lathe for a too good to be true price. From what I understand I wasn't nearly the first person to respond but I was the only person to respond indicating that it was worth more than they were asking and I would gladly pay a bit more. That worked out in my favor, as I was able to get a 10" Atlas lathe, Delta DP220 drill press, and a good bit of tooling / accessories. I spent $560, and the extra $60 was only because I was a dummy and had to call Pop-a-lock. Note to self: replace the hide-a-key that is apparently no longer on the truck.

The lathe is / was complete and generally functioning, though I did have to partially disassemble it for transport and is thus why it's shown as such. The Delta drill press had a shop made slow speed pulley that mounts to the side of the column rather than inside; I still need to check to ensure that there are no interference issues with the column or the spindle / head cover. I was stoked that the atlas included a milling attachment, steady rest, shop made / modified tool post grinder, Palmgren X-Y rotary table, extra change gears, etc...and that the drill press included a host of tooling in the wood base cabinet, including a variety of spindles with different attachments.

I cleaned the drill press up a little, which didn't take much. Other than a new cord, it's ready to roll. Also adding pictures of the tooling.

That deep socket with the crossbar hole in the base is a Plomb MADE 5340 1/2-inch drive with a 1/2" service opening.

The 1/4-inch drive spinner/extension is a Proto MFD. 4769.

The DOE is a Herbrand "VAN CHROME" 1025, another jeep wrench, pre-war though.

I'm playing hard-to-get on the set of eight (8) "blue" combo wrenches, complete from 3/4" to 1-1/4".

I had to go out for sandpaper today. Big mistake. Home Depot did not have 400grit in packages of more than 4 sheets! That’ll last a day or two, but geez. I also got a pack of 15 sheets of 220grit. Total was nearly $18! Good thing I’m visiting my dad tomorrow: I’ll snag some of his “lifetime supply” he got at an auction twenty years ago. It’s stinky and dusty, but it does the job. Mostly.
In better news, I swung by the little local flea, and spent $4: Indestro no888 ignition pouch with Indestro Super 898, 893, 892, 892A; Proto 3216, 704; made in usa combo; two Sears (Japan) DOEs; two Taiwanium combos; a Lindstrom Sweden dikes; and an SO stubby screwdriver.
And of course, I nearly forgot the little “Italy” chisel. I bought that because the handle is eactly what I need to make two faces for the Bonney PH-18 soft-face hammer I repainted yesterday.

Saw a G sale sign no a light pole. thought about it... and made a U turn. Found the sale a few blocks back and as I pulled up saw a great roller box. Craftsman. Checked it out and asked the guy what he wants for it. $20. Sold! so I didn't need it but I wanted it. It sure looks alot like my Toolmobile! gonna clean it up later tonight.

Hit a garage sale today and picked up some good stuff...
- a double handful of =v= deep sockets, extensions, etc.
- proto brake tool, 3/8 and 11/16 combos
- Craftsman 3/8 rhft ratchet
- Plomb, Bettr grip, and Craftsman 6" adjustables
- pin vise
I might go back tomorrow and pick up some more Craftsman stuff.

This is why I pick up sandpaper as cheap as I can at yard sale... I have two of those plastic file boxes for pendaflex folders full now. (as well as a good supply of Steel wool in most "grits". Most are sheaves of 50 or 100, the smaller amounts are in pendaflex folders.

Nice finds BTW!

RT nice save on the box! Look inside the drawer front in the label position inside and you may find a date code.

I got out to an estate sale late morning, but still need to take pics...

I doubt Craftsman for Lugz, blue wrenches, as those would be generally outside his normal era proclivity.

But they DO look suspiciously like mine from my racing days, (Painted blue so I knew who had one of mine...) Can't be mine though, as I managed to NOT lose any at the track!

Hit one sale today in between working on the bath remodel. Filled my bag to overfull with this stuff. Paid ~$4 a pound.

Plomb sockets in 3/4" & 1/2" drive,SK 3/4" ratchet in an industrial finish,
Williams 1/2" breaker bar,Starrett hardened square head,sockets and extensions from Snap On, Craftsman sockets,wrenches and metric hex key set. Armstrong F-A-51 ratchet,missing selector if anyone needs the rest for parts.
Bonney sockets,wrenches and 1/2" spinner. Welding clamps from Wilton and Armstrong.General 6" ruler,file brush,Snap On box & Williams boxes, both mostly filled with **** (already separated out) ,Herbrand pliers and an ignition set/bag that only had one Plomb tool in it but still cool and will look to see what I can do to make it whole.
