not exactly a haul, more a gripe
https://nh.craigslist.org/gms/d/entire-contents-of-beautiful/6642719867.html
Here I am getting excited from looking at the pictures and then I scroll down to see a wall of text. These estate liquidator people are always the worst.
Signing in, calling names, it's a yard sale, not a art auction lady. I wonder how much those people get paid, I can't even be bothered to put my own stuff on ebay, never mind take 300 pictures of some junk in someones house and write descriptions

Good lord, that's gotta be the largest wall of text I've ever seen on a cl ad. The estate "liquidators" are the worst. No haggling and they charge tax to boot.
They are dreaming on the price of the Mercedes and BIGTIME on the spyder...

I don't know what they are thinking, wouldn't it be in the best interest of the liquidators do get it done as quick as they can? I don't see many people lining up for a $30k mercedes out of warranty or a $22000 piano.

Been buried at work and with family responsibilities so minimal time to get out this season. Was able to steal away for an hour or so yesterday to get my fix.

All found a few blocks from the house.

Williams SAE line wrench set with a couple additions. For some reason the pouch is not the correct one for the set.

Williams ratchets 3/8" B-54, B-52 and two 1/4" M-52's & Lufkin Radius gauges

Older guy selling a lot of his work-issue stuff that he never uses and now at the end of his career he is offing the build up. Lots of brand new overalls (carhartt) new for cheap but not my size. I did score these:

New insulated Klein set for $25:
2018-07-13_13.04.17.jpg

New insulated Salisbury set (still sealed) for $20:
2018-07-13_13.05.01.jpg

New 29 piece Cleveland drils for $10:
2018-07-13_13.05.12.jpg

All made in the USA. He either didn't know the cost of the tools work was providing or just let his wife price the stuff and didn't care. Going to keep the drills and flip the insulated sets. As much as I hate parting with tools my take home pay drops $800 a month in July/August and this could really help pay the bills. Retails is about right at a $1,000 for the three pieces. If he wasn't there I would have insisted his wife take more money but he was and just didn't seem to care so I paid his prices.

Nice find on the Williams ratchets. I've got a B-52 in 1/2" and love it! I hope one of these days to come across one of the 1/4" ratchets.

I recently got a leatherette version as well, and a Lufkin catalog with late 50s pricing addendum.

I have a sweet spot for the Williams 52s. Have at least two of every drive size (think up to 3-4 of the 3/8). Still keep hoping to find an extra long or flex in the wild. Too cheap to spend eBay pricing. I would say eBay would list those ratchets least 100 (m52s @25, b54@40-50).

The 1/2 is an S52. M is 1/4, B is 3/8, S is 1/2 and H is 3/4 (never made an H52, only H51). As far as I know, I have only seen a S53 (extended legth), and B54 (flex), besides the regular 51/52 designations.

Yeah, I realized that after I typed it but too lazy to change it. Also, think I've got the 3/8" ratchet not 1/2". Could say maybe I've got too many ratchets but that'd just be a stupid comment that makes no sense!

I looked at that ad, as it is within striking distance for me, but didn't really see anything that would make the trip worthwhile. Plus, I've ended up spending the day working with my daughter on her '65 Malibu--much more satisfying than striking out at an overcontrolled estate sale!

Garage sale today said they had tools and they did too! Lot of Craftsman, but I managed to get a set of Snap-on hex sockets. Brand new Klein Ratcheting Cable Cutter, two mini socket/bit sets one SAE the other metric. Craftsman 3/8dr RHFT and a set of metric hex sockets. An O-Ratchet socket set, made in USA. Milwaukee hole saw with the quick release arbor - which I just bought from Lowes or HD last week at full retail price...... And 7 of these really cool metal socket rail squares. Pretty good 1-Stop haul today!

5 planned stops today, 2 ended up being busts (closed down). First estate sale, got a lot of small stuff for $10. Stop 2, a pawn, yielded a single hammer for $3. Stop 3, a yard sale, snagged other tools and pipe vises for $5. Not a bad day for under $20 not counting gas, water, and lunch.

First stop:
-Wright P4N doe wrench (old), marked "9/16 OP, 3/8 S.A.E." and "5/8 OP, 7/16 S.A.E." on the ends
-Wright BP16 combo 1/2" with 8+ code
-Wright 1112 combo 3/8" long pattern
-Williams 603 soe 11/16"
-Kobalt USA 22490 1/2 dr. extension 10", NOS
(Next, possible crown jewel)
-Robert Wrench Co. N.Y., opposite: PATENTED & PATENTS PENDING spring loaded adjustable wrench, 12-3/4"
-set of 3 Proto Los Angeles 8 pt sockets, 1/2 dr.: 7/16", 1/2" and 9/16"
-Cornwell JA-2 1/2 dr. to 3/8 dr. reducer
-B&C.Co.Bpt, Conn. (Brink & Cotton) c-clamp no. 142-2 Inch
-SK Tools set of 3 small raised panel combos, 6 pt box end, like new: C-8 1/4", C-10 5/16" and C-12 3/8"

Stops 2&3:
-Plumb shingling hatchet, decent shape
-Fairmount ball pein hammer, no size marked guessing 2 lb, definitely needs re-handled.
-'Heller (horse stamp) Made In USA, 1-1/2 LB., ALLOY' marked ball pein hammer. Handle feels, solid but looks iffy. (This hammer was stop 2)
-qty. 2, Reed pipe vises. The larger one is missing some parts, "free must take pair-" ok, twist my arm...
-"The Wood & Spencer Company, Tap Manufacturers, Cleveland Ohio." marked small finger joint wood box w/ misc small taps
-Clauss no 3769 forged scissors, 9"

Was debating whether to go out or not, decided to just run to one near the post office and drive around for a little bit seeing if there was any others. Worked out me going
$30, forgot a few small things but I'm pretty happy
2 wood working vises, Taiwanese but they seem pretty decent, quick release. I got a US one I need to resto but I don't really have any spots to put them. I'm left handed and all of my work bench have the left sides up against a wall, so it's pain.
Table saw roller stand , don't use my saw much but it's nice to not need someone helping.
Armstrong Bridgeport 1/8 to 2-1/2 pipe vise, I took it apart and cleaned it a bit, screw for the bottom jaw broke but I managed to drill and tap it. I plan on giving some electrolysis a try soon, so looks like a good candidate.
New set of old USA irwin spade bits, even has sharpening instructions on the packaging. Cheap 6" import c clamp, 16mm USA made shackle.
That 48" hf farm jack was my favorite find, had to take it apart because one of the pins was ceased, . Managed to pull out the remnants of a telephone pole I chopped down earlier in the year, already paid for itself, was looking at buying a new one a while ago but it was a bit much for me.

Vise was what caught my eye, I don't really have many large ones. My wilton 400s is the bench queen and I got a 40's columbia craftsman that's cracked I got sitting in the loft waiting for me to get the means to braze it. Rest of the ones I got are smaller than 4" and exposed screws or are carpenters vises.
Wasn't worth the bother though once I saw the wall of text, I just imagine they'd want $150 for it since it says craftsman

Picked these up off of CL this afternoon. I've been looking at getting a router. I want one that has both fixed and plunge bases. Since I've never had/used a router and the price was right I pulled the trigger on this Porter-Cable 6902. No 1/4" collet or collet wrench but again the price was right. I'd also been considering a 23-gauge nailer and the guy had this like new PC pin nailer with 5 packs of pins. Started up the router and it sounds good. The nailer works like new. Paid $35 and he threw in the hand grinder free. The grinder has "No. 95 E" on it. Anyone know who made it and when? It will need a good cleaning as the grease has to be all gunked up inside. Nice way to end the day after striking out earlier in the day at two estate sales.

PS Do I need to buy a collet wrench or can I easily make do with something else?

Had an ok day today. For $20 I picked up a Snap On hook and pick set, a Craftsman micro screwdriver set, a Plomb/Proto 1-1/16 pebble wrench and a pair of Mitchell needle nose pliers. I also included a pic of what I picked up at HJE last week since that place is almost a garage sale.1d6f184bea69219ce3f1b343a515aedf.jpgb1f20f1a9d3e8b11cc2b72edcab049fe.jpgaad46576f11a8fb6d689731a59efe7bc.jpge5638bde53600869375dc42f48ec9412.jpg

Patent Dates of Nov 20, 1888 and Aug 26, 1890.

Things seem to be picking up! Ten planned stops, quite a few TOO's and enough stops with stuff I wanted to keep me going. I was out later than I have been all season!

Spent $5 on the knife, porcelain funnel and the Stanley Level. One side of the level has paint spatter on it I need to get off, but the glasses are all good.

attachment.php

The Knife blade is real Damascus steel and has not a single makers mark. I strongly suspect this is a custom knife. the blade, intricate brass with extra pins on the narrow parts, and other tell tales all indicate custom. While well used,m no one had buggered up he blade in half assed sharpening attempts.

attachment.php

Another $5 for three 2-1/2" Phoenix clamps, A pair of Fiskars scissors, the square is A stanly Sweetheart, anf the odd Pliers are Krauter, marked The Victor".

attachment.php

Next stop was a quasi Estate sale clearing out after the elderly hubby had a stroke. $2.50 for Pyrex (USA made) measuring cup, buckle, Watch, and the odd clamp-on Hinges. The had a lot of RV stuff, and I suspect this was for something on an RV. I think I can make use of these for camp gear!

Also included were the magnetic tow lights - Something I could have use a dozen or so times, including recently bringing my new trailer project home...

attachment.php

attachment.php

Back to the ES sale from yesterday and last week, looking for any more P&C sockets, any Duro hex sockets, and hoping to find the "grinder gun" that went to the Long C Craftsman box... Struck out on all three...

I did get other things digging deeper in the drawers mostly:

00 Steel wool (almost full), Copper sheet, a Bemus & Call, H & T Co monkey wrench, brass hose fittings, Binks & Cotton 2" clamp, and a Tap handle, A box of mostly 1/4" sockets that turned out to be Snap-on!, (I was wanting the box...) some hex sockets, (GM. CO? :dunno: ) 3 DOE's -Billings and Spencer, Bridgeport "X" and Williams; Krauter and Utica dykes, and an odd Utica knife. Five bucks all!

Mike,
You may already know this, but that bead roller may be worth some good coin. You didn't say your purchase price, but You probably ****.

A few more stops:

$2 at a TOO for mostly Proto sockets (back row) and one each SK, SO and Williams.

attachment.php

The Compasses and dividers were $5 at a place that was fundraising for "Realy for life"

from once of my regular stops I picked out the Proto The punch and chisel, "For you, for Free!"

And the Garman was a Freecycel pickup, so also free!

All in all, a decent if not stellar day! I'm Happy! :pimpflash

Mike good score, and I also like the bead roller! I think I have one in the 5 or 6 hand crank tools I have, not sure if its Peck Stow & Wilcox, or PEXTO...

And here is today's score :

All my planned stops didn't pan out, as per the usual lately. But the one stop I had added on the bottom of my list which happened to be an estate sale that didn't look too promising and didn't list any tools, was the earliest opening and the closest to me. So glad I decided to stop in there first.

As found:
42498780975_e2bc8b473c_c.jpg

Saw the Huot drill index and grabbed it. Then I saw the blue case and figured "Ah lovely, another 20$ cheap asian socket set from the 60's-70's". Opened it while it was still on the shelf and saw the sticker and the green driver and grabbed it as fast as I could. Re-opened it in my hands and confirmed the ratchet was a SK and let out a (possibly audible) "holy ****". This is the first SK set I've found or seen in the wild.

Asked the guy running the sale what he thought and he says "Are they complete?" To which I sheepishly replied yes, thinking the price had just gone way up and he goes "How about 5$ for both?" :shocking:

Anyways...

28541585437_a09861a997_c.jpg

Besides the complete SK set with all the 1/4" and 3/8" sockets, ratchet, driver, extensions I also got :

Snap-On Midget 1/4" ratchet (1963 E date code)
Snap-On Midget 1/4" breaker bar (T date code???)
Snap-On TM 24 flat head drive 1/4" socket (Marked Not Guar. so I figure Government contract?)
Craftsman =v= 3/8" extension
SK 3/8" drive 1/2" socket
Mac 3/8" drive 1/2" socket
Blackhawk 1/4" drive 11/32" socket
Meteor 1/4" drive 11/32" socket
Two torx 1/4" bits

I'd love to see a shot of the front and back of that case, WNYflyer. I found a set in a maroon leatherette case earlier this year. Probably a little older. Link to my GJ thread on it here.

Private Lugnutz,

Shot of the front and back of the case, not much to see what with the Lufkin info mostly worn off. Also photos from my #8 Lufkin catalog which dates from the mid 50's i am thinking, no date on it that I can see though.

The set is the 77CX. Your set is definitely and older set.

Thanks guys. Surprised not to see a 1/2" S-52 at the sale, those are a probably the one ratchet I run into most often for sure. Also don't see the B-54 too often and practically never the long handle S-53.

As 3Bay know this area is a huge Williams area and plus I am also cheap so I am always on the hunt locally.

The 1/2 is an S52. M is 1/4, B is 3/8, S is 1/2 and H is 3/4 (never made an H52, only H51). As far as I know, I have only seen a S53 (extended legth), and B54 (flex), besides the regular 51/52 designations.

Good finds guys.

WNYflyer- great Williams haul.

nmantas- looks like you did quite well on the insulated kits!

Now hear this! Now hear this! Tim *****! Tim *****! That is all...
Thanks.

Kind of forgot a little bit to my story, too excited to post it.

Ended up giving them 20$ for it since I almost felt bad. But I still feel I got a great deal out of it. Had been wanting an SK set for a while and I couldnt be happier right now.

Have you ever seen (or know if they made) a B53, that isn't a Snap-on Williams B-53A? Seems odd if they made a 3/8 flex and long 1/2, but not both in each drive size.

I went to a big Ford/Mercury Club Swap Meet today and brought home a few goodies that will get used on current and future projects.
Two '38 Ford rear view mirrors that I will try to make one good one out of for use in my roadster. An early V8 shifter along with a vintage Hurst shifter stalk and a couple NHRA decals well, just because they were there.

I have never heard of there being a a JH Williams 1/2" flex S-54? or a 3/8" long handle B-53? I have some catalogs and they don't show any of those. I have also thought it strange that they didn't have those.
