Nope. Just a goof! I had written "neighbor's stuff," but edited to make the second part of the sentence match the first.

As a firm descriptivist, I love the English language. Especially in the internet age. It coins itself anew all the time. Wheelborrow might be the best accidental neologism I've seen this year!

I picked up a Cole flat file off of the FB marketplace for $50, not sure if I'll keep it to compliment my vidmars or pass it along to my father. The seller said he had almost 100 replies in the day it was listed. Anyone have an idea of what weight the drawers are capable of holding on these?b4552c3636489f2002add6b87124f617.jpg99a17da4fb15322dee99aee055bc39f2.jpg

They can fill those up solid with paper, and we used to store new packages (No air gaps, so dense...) of both drawing vellum and blueprint paper in them, so quite a bit of weight.

Roller or friction slides? That is probably the limiting factor.

ps: GREAT find!

Found another set of rhft Craftsman repair kits. I think that makes 7 in the last week. For me that's about 1000 years of ratchet repairs

Thanks outlaw, I guess they would be friction slide - they are dissimilar from toolbox slides in the sense that it's just the channel on the drawer that slides in the channel on the cabinet. The smaller cabinet is much lighter duty - I paid an additional $20 for that one as a doner for my father's garage.

Did I mention you **** earlier? Because now you DOUBLY ****!!!!

Changing RHFT repair kits has to be the easiest ever, remove snap ring, pull out old ratchet cartridge, install new one, replace snap ring. I hate the other ones, springs and ball bearings flying all over the shop!

I knew that my drinking would pay off eventually.
Today I took a small stockpile of aluminum cans to the local recycling yard. There's a guy that works there who is always snapping up all the tools that come into the yard. Today, I finally talked him into letting some go.

He had filled a 5 gallon bucket with some recent 'junk' and told me that I was welcome to any/all of the stuff in the bucket. First thing I saw was the full rail of Snap On sockets (7/16 up to 1-1/8)! I dug in and tossed out all the china/Taiwan ****. I was left with 30 pounds of USA goodness.

They sell by weight, which is great, especially for what I ended up with! 30 pounds at $0.50 per pound would have been fine at $15, but I only had $9 cash on me... they took it! :shocking:

I ended up with 21 pounds of aluminum cans (I've been saving them for a while) and got back $10.

Net cost to me for 30 pounds of hand tools... -$1.00 :bounce: They paid me to take them! :lol_hitti

Here's what I brought home.

The bucket of goods:

attachment.php

Snap-On rail of sockets, small extension and sliding T; SK 3/8" drive LONG extension, 1/2" drive New Britain LONG extension; a whole mess of Craftsman (U) [Plomb] including, ratchet, short and long extension and 11 sockets; a handful of SK sockets and a Blackhawk orphan.

attachment.php

Wrenches include Craftsman, Barcalo and Wards Master along with a HUGE 1" drive Armstrong impact socket.

attachment.php

Finally, a whole mess of mostly Craftsman sockets, various vintage from =V= to G and a few newer makes, all USA.

attachment.php

Sorry, I didn't get a picture of the aluminum cans... :pimpflash

There's so much suckage there, he won't have to smash the next 21 pounds of cans--they'll collapse under the vacuum!

Okay, maybe that last bit was a stretch, but I had to find a new way to say "You ****!"

Good score.

Not only do you ****, you have replaced legal tender with smashed beer cans. Well done.
:lol_hitti
Thanks. That's hilarious!
Damn, you ****. I quit.
Thanks man. Don't quit on us now! :drink:
That's a great junkyard score, Unaiu.
Thanks Lugz!

FYI, the annual 50-mile garage sale along scenic NY SR90 (not I90), between Montezuma and Homer NY, is this weekend.
I've done the stretch between Genoa and Union Springs a couple times; hoping to push north to Cayuga this year.

I guess I live under a rock. I'm about a hour from there and I've never heard of this event.

It's a 6-inch tempered steel rule, No. 4 (8ths, 16ths, 32nds, and 64ths) graduations on one side, and decimal equivalents on the flip side. Unfortunately, not a Dunlap. A General.

The off-set/parrothead/angle adjustable pipe wrench is a Lawson USHCO MFG CO, Buffalo, NY., patented in 1920.

Not a garage sale, but the original lead came from a sale, so I guess that counts. A Photo-lectric lathe (code for Atlas 12x36). Has two four jaw chucks (a full and half size), a three jaw, two carriages, quick change gearbox, and almost everything else. Have a 12x36 that is in decent condition, but need some parts. So this will either be broken up, or be the "seconds" machine.

All told, $100. And I will be picking up a ton of vintage magazines from him later.image1.jpegIMG_20180726_123756323.jpgIMG_20180726_123742411.jpgIMG_20180726_123728254.jpegIMG_20180726_094221434.jpg

Lugz, you need to keep track of the Week of Maximum Suckage from the year in your little green book--this may be it!

Not sure if the suckage decreases when I point out I haven't paid for the magazines yet. Hoping to pay for the stuff for my personal library, and getting him to donate the rest for me to keep in my classroom for middle schoolers to browse.

I am going to get Projects in Metal, Machinery. Workshop and Home Shop Machinist for me (will probably get all he has, and put doubles up here for sale). For the classroom, a bunch of old Popular Science, Mechanic Illustrated, etc.

Via Craigslist, I added significantly to my woodworking hand tools today...4 very nice Stanley planes, a Stanley cabinet scraper and a Henry Disston sliding bevel square. The planes are all great examples of Stanley craftsmanship. They are a No 3 Smooth plane, No 605 Jack plane (Bedrock), No. 10 Rabbet plane, No 40 Scrub plane and a No 80 Cabinet scraper with rosewood sole. These will be users for me. I really like the shortness of the Disston sliding bevel. A good day!

As a technology teacher, I am justifying it to my wife by pointing out that English teachers have fiction, and social studies teachers have history/biographies. This is just upholding literary knowledge in my discipline...
The magazines were his dad's, and he just retired from being a Science teacher, so appreciates my argument.

Really, I am hoping to just inspire kids to work with their hands, get out and explore. If it is linked digitally, more the better. New uses for solving old problems (3d printed objects for molds for casting, CNC, etc).
