That's a nice snag, Drives! I have yet to run into even one of them. It will be an instant purchase.

I found a cabinet that suits my needs, aesthetics, and cheap-*** wallet at the flea market this morning. Nice and wide (3') but deep (18") with twelve (12) drawers, in industrial gray. (If it's not OD green, industrial gray, or wood, I'm probably not buying it. :)) And there was a bunch of spacers in one of the drawers. A couple spots need some de-rusting and touch-up paint, but it is sound.

Not sure why it's on the Right Coast - made by HALLOWELL STEEL PRODUCTS, in SANTA, ANA, CALIF. :)

ALL: well I found another Lyon Rotobin and after cleaning it up I need to find a good spot for it. I'm sure I will especially cause it rolls nicely even when full.

It was 75 degrees here when I brought it home so I pulled out the Simple Green and did a bit of cleaning. Then put on maybe a quart of BLO and it's ready to fill up now. this one is about 3 foot in diameter and 42 inches tall.

I only need to find the smaller version that can sit on my bench and I had one a few years ago that a friend talked me out of so I know Lyon made the smaller ones. I think the smaller one was 2 foot in diameter and maybe 2 foot tall with 4 levels of bins.

ALL: while i'm posting up my Rotobin finds I also found a couple other metal cabinets that really are KEEPERS. one is a flat file cabinet with 10 drawers that is 60 inches wide, 24 inches deep and 35 inches tall.

the other one is a pretty cool old Medical cabinet that i'm going to get rid of the plastic bins and either put in some old metal ones I have or i'll make some wood ones. each shelf on the medical cabinet is made out of stainless steel and each shelf can be completely removed.

I also found this old flat file desk that I thought needed to come home with me. it's 63 inches wide and the top drawer is maybe 58 inches wide and the 5 smaller ones are about 3 feet wide. it's built like a tank.

that's all for now folks!!

Drives, that's a great find on the wide shallow drawing file cabinet. Are the drawers on rollers?

DF, I've had a similar medical/dental cabinet for close to 40 years, and those are great!

The outside cabinets are roaster bases. I've got one, makes for nice base cabinet.

The store I was working at had the same dental cabinet for used parts.

Seeing the picture was like hey I know that stuff.

Lloydski: thanks and I know i'll find a spot for it. I also really like that it's on wheels too.

Outlaw: yep I like almost all sizing of flat file drawers and yes these drawers are on wheels too. it's built like a TANK and I don't think this one is moving on cause pretty sure it's a KEEPER. I was hoping to put my extra old metal bins on the stainless slide of the little medical cabinet, but they are 12 inches and slide only holds 10 inches. since i'd like to restore this one and keep it I'll probably learn to make a few small wood bins to eventually get rid of all the plastic ones. does yours have plastic bins and have you or can you post a few pictures of it and what you store in it?

Stuart: thanks!!

Duck: yep those old medical cabinets are great and spendy if you try to find one in great shape. Seems like the roasters were maybe made by the same company or at least the same or better quality than the old Pressteel boxes so good you found a re purpose use for them.

Outlaw: sorry I probably read it too fast. all my ORGANIZING and moving my stuff the last month or two has me a bit FRAZZLED.

i'm still jealous of how you have all your stuff organized and how you seem to be able to go to sales every week and still know where everything is. were you in charge of SUPPLIES in the service or a past life?

cheers

I've never seen a desk like that, did it come from the factory like that? That's pretty slick. Drives, you sure have a vast amount of storage cabinets.

Jay: thank you for the good words!! yep this bench like desk with the big flat file drawers built in are original and it's got a MAYLINE sticker on it similar to ones i've had on a few oak flat file cabinets I've owned. i'm not sure exactly when it left the factory, but it's built like a tank and i'm guessing it was built about when I was born about 60+ years ago.

I picked up a Heritage era =CRAFTSMAN= No. 99C04387 mechanics' tools cabinet at my flea market this morning. This is the cabinet on the cover and on page 3 of the 1952 Craftsman catalog. If you've never seen one, I've posted photos in the 'Show your Heritage Logo love' thread, linked here. Posts #202 through #205 on page 11.

I had a good day and found a pile of these Lyon stacking bins on the local C/L. Each is 20'' x 10" x 7" which is 1400 cu in. A 5 gallon bucket is about 1155 cu in so they hold quite a bit. That's just about all the weight I want to pick off a stack if I can't get to the back of a bin so these are just right for my purposes which is organizing a lot of larger bolts and various pipe and similar fittings in a compact area. These are tough enough to stack at least 6 high but I'll probably only go 4 or 5 tall. Best of all was the price.....$50.00 for the stack of 46 bins. Ed.

Ed: you paid for one or two and got 44 or 45 free? I've been looking for a few more to match the blue Lyon bins I bought in your part of the world maybe 3 years ago and haven't had any luck. it sounds like yours might be a bit bigger, but they look like they are in great shape.

WELL DONE!!

Thanks fowldarr and drives. I'm not sure what these bins could go for but at about a buck apiece they were plastic bucket cheap and impossible to pass up. Should help clear up some floor space the bucket brigade is currently holding. Ed.

ORC: yep a PERFECT FIND for the bucket brigade!!

ALL: anybody else like putting their stuff in old metal cabinets, bins or medical cabinets please post up pictures and stories if you have them.

i'm trying to think of a way to lock in the metal trays on this medical cabinet? i'll probably remove all the metal trays and make wood ones and a wood top cause it fits my Dewalt 12 inch compound miter saw nicely.

Dreamer: It could be an MBCentury who also made Snap on, but there were several makers that made that style toolbox. Dunlap is another brand that comes to mind.

This past week I went to a couple of Estate Sales. The first of the two was in a basement and was full of "stuff" of interest to me.

20181013-05.jpg

I initially overlooked these two cabinets. They were back against a wall with things pilled on top of the plywood that spanned the two of them. However, after a bit, I noticed that they were WAY more robust than I had first thought.

20181013-06.jpg 20181013-07.jpg

They are HEAVY! They are both about 41 inches deep & about 29 inches wide. From the floor to their tops is about 32 inches. The drawers will extend almost their full length from the cabinet and will support a substantial load. So far I have not found a manufacturer's label on them.

They both also have a feature I've not seen before... There's a folding section on the top of each cabinet that allows access to the top drawer without pulling it open. I don't think that feature is anything I will use but - as I said - I've never seen anything like that before.

I'm thinking I could put some steel plate - already on hand - on at least one of these and use it as a welding table - a' la Jack Olsen with his short Stronghold Cabinet/Steel Plate workbench arrangement.

2018 10 14 - Cabinet Drawer 03.jpg 2018 10 14 - Cabinet Drawer 04.jpg

These pictures are from the cabinet on the left. Although similar, the cabinet on the right has a different drawer design.

Anybody have any idea who might have made these?

I've had this old clunker for years, I have no idea who made it. Been using it to store plumbing supplies.
So much old patina I hate to disturb it.

Scott, that's a heck of a find!

George, are there any tool Co. markings on the lock?

It has a worn label on the lid:
Spill Proof, The Herma?? Love Co. Chicago USA
It also has a hook in the handle that would have hooked something under the lid.

SB: thanks for posting pictures over here on this thread cause those are some awesome cabinets. as I mentioned on your garage thread where I saw these first I think with the color, quality and stoutness they might have been made by COLE, but I bet there were a few other cabinet makers in that era that made nice cabinets.

maybe somebody else has some that maybe still has the company emblem still on theirs to tell you (us).

George: looks like an old PETTY CASH BOX and glad you like it.

DrivesItFar,

The cabinet on the left has tracks in the floor of most of the shelves and some "slide-stops" that would control the "stuff" that was stored in them.

Some of the slide-stops seemed to be for wider material and I was trying to figure out what that might be.

Sadly I am old enough not only to remember but to have actually used "IBM Punch Cards". [I can remember one of my professors wondering why we needed to replace punch card machines with direct input computer terminals but that's another story - HA!] Could these cabinets have been used to store Punch Cards and/or other media?

The only reason I bring this possibility up is an effort to help pin down who might have made these cabinets.

Best regards,

Scott

I just purchased these 4 metal wall cabinets off CL. The smaller (top) cabinets measure 35"W x 58"H x 12"D. The lower/larger cabinets (standing on side) measure 4'W x 5'H x 16"D.
Looking for help in ID'ing them as there are no tags visible. I'm trying to track down some of the missing metal clips that hold the shelves in place?

Pro: great looking vintage cabinets. I have no clue as to the maker or who makes those shelving brackets, but i'll take a WAG (wild **** guess) that these are medical cabinets.

good luck and hope you find a nice spot to hang them. are you going to use a FRENCH CLEAT to hang them or do tell?
