I have the earlier version of that vise (the number 56). Here’s how mine turned out.

Underneath the crud lies a beauty for sure.Turn the dynamic over and there might be a date stamped toward the front near where the collar goes. Very nice find.

That one in the back in red is a walworth from boston. I picked it up a few years back and it just sat around. I did a quick restoration last year but after doing a little research and starting a vise collection I'm going to really give this vise justice. I think it's super rare. Its heavy duty. Screw threads are milled into the casting. It's in very good shape. I'm missing the handle for the bottom screw that attaches it to the table.

Thanks

Ah, ok that's what I was thinking it may be. That or a General Fire Extinguisher Co. vise, which is quite rare. It's quite common for those screws to be missing. Looks like you are doing it justice.

Rich, yes I went with a two tone color on this vise and I like the result. Mine weighs a little over 150 lbs. I did make one modification which you might want to consider doing too. When I bought this vise I noticed that the slide would fishtale quite a bit when you either opened it up or closed it. Since there was a little more slop here than I was willing to tolerate I drilled and tapped the head of the pin that holds the spindle nut in place with 1/4-20 and threaded a long set screw in it. I used a nut on the end of the set screw to secure it in place once it was properly adjusted. See the attached photo. By taking most of the slop out of the position of the spindle nut (you need a little, but not much) the amount of fishtale was dramatically reduced. You’ll love using your vise once you finish restoring it. It really is rock solid.

This is the only other mark on the vise.

Here are some updates on the Holland’s 16. Mostly been working on the pedestal. Pedestal is made from a solid 2” drive shaft and counter weights. Beautifully milled modern metal. Pedestal itself weight in at around 400lbs. From what specs I could find the Hollands 16 weighs in around 170lbs.

So I’m getting ready to paint. Looking for suggestions. Pedestal one color vise another.

Thoughts.

Picture with weights 215lbs.

Thanks rich
