I was actually looking at one of those last weekend, but I couldn't think of anything to put in the pick section. Cheaper though...

Dave, congratulations that is in outstanding condition. Like you I've wanted one for a long time but I've never seen one in the wild. How does the drawer being pulled out not ride on the lower drawer. The ones you have pulled doesn't show wear marks. What joints did they use in making the drawer. Again a great find.

Thanks, Jock!Great score and refurbish!
Agreed. Now if only I could find a few more of these and several barristers and I'd be set! (Collectibles comprise about 99.9% of the tools I own.)Perfect way to store and display your non-user tool sets.
Thanks, Dave. Those octagonal American Bolt & Screw cases are awesome.^^^Lugz, absolutely beautiful case. I love that glass!!
Thanks for the additional photos Dave. The shelf makes sense , I couldn't see it in the first pictures. IF I can get my skill level up I'd like to make one.
Hmmm....As i was cleaning and waxing it, I saw the date stamp inside then upon closer inspection of the Simanco lock mechanism, I realized this was an antique sewing machine cabinet accessory box from a 1930's Singer sewing machine.
Great finds guys! This lil box came to me by way of my girlfriend. We were at an estate sale and this was in the garage, all dirty and filled with junk. She saw it first and thought it was cool for her rock collection. Immediately thought what an excellent valet that would make!!! My brain started contemplating different ideas on how to obtain this awesome box from my girls possession. Finally a couple weeks later a harbor freight wooden machinist box popped up on FB and I scooped it up for $50 like new. It worked out well, she got a larger wooden machinist box for her tools and rock/gem collection and I got the bad *** estate sale box. As i was cleaning and waxing it, I saw the date stamp inside then upon closer inspection of the Simanco lock mechanism, I realized this was an antique sewing machine cabinet accessory box from a 1930's Singer sewing machine. Being an upholsterer, this box fits me perfectly!!

I've wanted one of these for a very looong time. Either they're missing parts/drawers, half rotten or expensive. I thought I might be able to find one at a garage/estate sale but no such luck.
I finally found this one that's complete and in great shape. Unfortunately I had to dig pretty deep but SWMBO said go for it.
It's about 3' high X 2' O.D. with 80 drawers and turns on a ball bearing pedestal. Each drawer has a peg in it's upper rail to stop the drawer from coming out all the way and spilling the contents.

That is sweet! Pics of felt lining please.
ED: interesting wood cabinet to say the least. just curious if the indentations for finger pulls works ok or do you wish they had a handle on each drawer/bin when you get them loaded and heavy?
thanks for the history too!!
...Got a question, what is the purpose of the mirror in the machinist chest?
I picked up this antique display case this morning.

I spotted it out on the curb (bulk pick-up day tomorrow) when I was walking my dog and I went back to get it later. It came out of a famous old barbershop in town. Those are all fancy frosted cut-glass panels on the bottom, one missing, but otherwise it's in very good condition. Access via sliding doors in the back.

I am planning to clean the glass and the wood and leave it as is.
I am going to use it to store and display my entire 1920's socket set collection. Those are all in wooden boxes. I will stack them up in the cabinet below and rotate a few of them at a time, lids open, in the top. This is the first major piece of furniture I have found in a few years. I am going to put it in the Lugzsonian for now, but eventually, this display case and the jeweler's desk some of you may remember, linked here, are going to go into a spare bedroom (only one of five kids still at home...) that we are in the process of refinishing. When we have guests it will be a "Guest" bedroom, but most of the time it will be a little office/den for me.

To be able to see if something is in your eye.
Removing swarf is a popular answer, but the Gerstner people know exactly when it was added (1900), and they insist it was for cleaning up after a job or shift. I'm not arguing either way.
It's for herbal medicine. Have seen things like this in shops in Chinatown.ALL: this isn't mine and if it was for sale I bet it would be too expensive so all i can do is drool a bit and post up a few pics.
looks like maybe old Chinese origin or ?
+1 that's really nice! It's for herbal medicine. Have seen things like this in shops in Chinatown.
