It’s nice that you brought it back to life. I hate seeing the results of some clown using a ratchet for a hammer. I pulled the rusty pipe wrench out of the evaporust this afternoon and it looks much better.
-Don

Agreed, it's a feeling of satisfaction to resurrect an abused tool. I feel bad about scavenging the guts from an unused Fairmount, but it was a standard length 1/2 ratchet, I don't really use or collect them. And it was only $2

I wish I had taken better care of the soldering gun box. I helped an old neighbor put up a fence for his little dog one time just to be neighborly and helpful. When we got done he went into his little barn and came out with that Powr Kraft gun. It was still in its wrapper and had never been used. I used it because back in my cabinet building days, I had very little money.powr1.jpg

I found quite a few Powr-Kraft tools at a huge garage sale yesterday. I’m building a 1/4” drive set one piece at a time.

I bought the set in the blue box new in the mid 1970s, The individual tools are mostly flea market finds. I also have a couple of tootsie roll ratchets made by Wright, hidden in my big box

I’ve been finding some Powr-Kraft items lately including today. I bought a box with some Powr-Kraft tools in it a few weeks ago. It had been spray bombed inside and out. I got curious and look some lacquer thinner to the paint and the emblem was there. I found this torch set missing the torch today. I found the saw and ratchet wrench last week.

The Powr-Kraft stuff has really shown up at every recent sale. We found these today. A Wright made Tootsie Roll ratchet, a Barcalo made short DBE like new, an extension and a screwdriver.

Continuing my recent trend of finding Powr-Kraft at every sale, I found this soldering gun set at a garage sale this morning. It even came with some soldering extras. Keeping with the Wards theme, I also grabbed this DOE set.

There is a Powr-Kraft tool box and an old Blackhawk tool box at the local auction. They are both in lots that have too much junk to deal with though.

I bought this Powr Kraft 4oz. ball pein hammer brand new in 1971 at Montgomery Wards at the
"Tel-Twelve Mall" in Southfield Michigan. Just restored it in Awl Grip on the original hickory and new navy blue Awl Grip in the head...:bounce:

Looks similar to this 45+ set. Has long extension instead of pin handle, and of course the new fangled round head ratchet.

1962 Powr Kraft snowblower:

More photos at the link below. Carb and tank off for cleaning and a rebuild kit.
1962, pre-osha pre-cpsc. No safety devices at all. No dead man controls. Engage the impeller, drive motor and it goes and goes whether your hands are on it or not. You can turn the output chute 360d, ie, right at your face. Looks like a 2 stage but it's just a 1 stage. no second impeller. It's very heavy. No differential in the drive axle so steering takes serious effort. Was told it was manufactured by Simplicity. No float bowl on this old Briggs motor. It has a secondary tank in the main tank instead of a float bowl, float and valve needle.

Here's my Powr-Kraft wood vise, quick acting screw, got at a thrift store for $60. I think its 8" wide and opens about 10" with the oak jaws I made. Note the oak jaws have 1. horizontal and vertical vee grooves 2. holes for dowel pin dogs on top 3. 1/4" deep step near the top (like machinists parallel for thin work). Works great, quick release screw is nice and hasn't let me down.

Bidding is only at $82.00 but there's a full week to go in the auction. They typically start bidding Thursday evening and end the following Monday. This week they are running the current auction until next Monday. That bid won't hold. There are tools in it, too.

Good stuff guys. I’ll have to go rooting around at my dads, he has plenty of older sweet tools. I got this box today. Had to trade my brother in law a big snap on flat tip I found on the road. Anybody got a timeframe these were sold?

My Powr-Kraft 3/8 flex handle purchased by my father probably 1970's and a nice 3/4 hp 3450 rpm motor. The motor came with a Delta 6" jointer and had been poorly re-sprayed. Both the original paint and repaint flaked off easily and I repainted in machinery gray to match the jointer and stand.

Not a Wright. Maybe a Thorsen, I'm not as familiar with them.

Yeah, that one looks to have been supplied by Thorsen. Here is one Username sent me a couple of years ago.

Nice.
Picked one up at the flea non-working, it was one of the most gunked ratchets I've ever seen, which was surprising for the style. All dried black crud inside. Probably sat in old oil or something. It cleaned up great!

Don, thanks for clearing up the origen on my flex ratchet--certainly appears to be a match for Thorsen. Here's a shot of the Powr-Kraft stamping that I did not include above.

That’s one of the reasons why I like Powr-Kraft. So many of their suppliers were other manufacturers that I collect including Barcalo and Thorsen. While I don’t collect Wright, they supplied a lot of high quality tools to Wards. Early on they were being supplied by Duro/Indestro. I found this listing in a 1961 Wards catalog. The second picture is a pipe wrench I found yesterday. I initially thought that it was supplied by Erie but when I disassembled it today, it had all of the earmarks of being supplied by Ridgid.

Snagged this nice tool box a couple years ago, half the marked price ($5). I can't complain!
