Anyone seen one of these before? The only thing I find online about Premier is some little clamp on vises. It sold recently at an auction and unfortunately I was not the buyer.

So I managed to pick up a Bonney rapid transit vise this morning for $50! 4 1/2 in jaws and a swivel base. It is definitely in rough shape as the anvil area is missing a big chunk and the static jaw was welded on and doesn’t it flush as it was a poor job lining it all up when welding. There is also a piece broken off by the release handle that allows you to slide the vise quickly. but aside from those 3 areas of damage, this thing is one of the coolest vises iv ever seen, hands down! It weighs in about 54 lbs

sandman, gotta show more pic:s of the ship vise. Write a little about it too.

bl00 you think it could be a European vise. Never seen one like it.

Dlavallee22, is there a model number on your Bonney? Like to add it to the spreadsheet even though it is damaged.

I should have commented. That whole page was so much information and such awesome eye candy! I remember just sort of being overwhelmed and depressed that I don’t find opportunities like that myself. I really enjoy those German vises and have been tempted to see if bastel would be willing to sell one, but then again ... shipping. Then I see your location sandman being next to me and I contemplate.... but just about all GJ members don’t sell their finds. It has been unusually quiet lately and a number of the long standing GJ members have not really been around lately it seems - makes me wonder if there is a Vise Conference somewhere that I am failing to attend and that is where some of the quiet members are currently!

I have a new friend in Kansas who is willing to patiently work with me on a number of items, so I am looking forward to some new pieces in the future and will share when that time comes!!!! (Logistics of getting the items is a challenge though)

I had posted my sawyer Oswego vise back in that time frame too looking for a source for new pipe jaws too if anyone had any ideas. The Excel spreadsheet for that model does not have a link to a post, so maybe that could be used if felt good enough.

Dlavalle... that is an awesome vise for sure! So glad to get to see some photos of it! I bet you were all giddy when you first saw it haha!

The good news: they finally let me out of vise rehab

The bad news: I managed to snag this Wilton C2 on the way home. The vise has 5” jaws and weighs in at 113 lbs. The vise spent its life in somebody’s garage so it’s seen light use only. The jaws are like new and there isn’t a hammer mark on it. It’s really a late 70’s time capsule vise.

Yeah shipping is putting most people off.
But think what a Heuer Primus DRP 4" goes for on ebay.com (200? 300?), when you can get a 6" for 50-60 bucks + 110$ shipping. A 5" would only be 80$ shipping I guess.
I admit I have some bigger ones where shipping is gonna be more. That said I found another VS source, but the person (a shop) is very uncooperative, apparently I would have to be there during business hours, kinda hard to do if it's so far away. Kinda stopped talking to me, not very nice. Hoped it to be a VS2, that would have been nice for one happy guy I guess. VS4... shipping my first one soon, and the cast body fits in one parcel, just so weight wise. The remaining stuff might or might not make the kg limit, so it's either 160 euro or 15 bucks less (I always say, fill up the 2nd parcel with a little vise, getting more vise for your shipping buck)

After about three years of not buying anything I fell off the vise wagon. The Versa Vise was from an auction and the Parker from a junk shop I stopped at on the way home.

Yes, Smitty...
It’s good to have you back. That’s an amazing time machine C2 you found. No doubt about it’s original paint. Just clean and lube and put it up on the shelf with its brothers and cousins.

Serrat: If there was a vise convention somewhere, I missed it.

Maybe somebody SHOULD organize such an event???????????

Thanks shift, it’s good to be back. Is was good to take a little break and refresh. The Wilton just needs a wipe down like you said and it’s ready for the shelf. The previous owner really took care of the vise which is always nice to see.

Smitty, it's not enough to endeavor, you have to VOW to endeavor,---That's the reason that you, like B100 are off the wagon.---You know what they say, rehab is for quitters.---Good to hear from You and Fred and the Sandman again.

I would have had to add both of those to my collection as well!

I just picked up this little Prentiss Bull Dog no.50 this morning. The vise has 3 1/4” jaws and weighs in at 22 lbs. I stripped off the remaining paint and wire wheeled the rust off, it cleaned up better than I thought.fbd0689294e6bd6df9cd459174bb03d5.jpgc302526fb0a1e5fb5f5a6cfe5c334602.jpg

Picked up this Wilton 645 mechanic’s vise with 5” jaws for $75 this weekend. Although not a bullet model, it’s my first Wilton and I will be attaching it to my bench in place of the Chinese POS that I’ve had for years. Luckily, I found the unobtainium removable pipe jaws in an otherwise-empty drawer before I even knew they were missing from the vise! It appears that the PO used it mostly as a wood vise since there are a lot of polyurethane and paint spills on it. The anvil does show some abuse with a multitude of thin overlapping 3/8” impressions. No idea what he was hitting it with…

Two questions:
1. In looking at pics of other 645s on GJ I don't see the little ****** on the front of the crank like I show on mine. Does it have a purpose? Is it a manufacturing/assembly step that wasn't smoothed out?

2. I cannot find any indication of manufacture date. It seems that the date info on: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=269079 applies only to bullet vises because there is not a mark or stamp on my 645 except those cast on the exterior. Does anyone have any idea how to date a lowly 645?

Thanks for your help!

Old Radar...Your style Wilton 645 utility vise was advertised from 1963-1973. Although it's a light-duty vise, I'm sure it will serve you just fine. Use a sharp chisel and knockoff whatever is on the front of the spindle. Followup with a file or stone and it should be good to go.

Wilton has an unbelievable brand recognition, so as long as you don't abuse it, it should always have value going forward.

This came home with me today: Craftsman 5196 swivel vise! After 4 years of drought, that's the second 519x series vise I've found in the wild over the past few weeks (the other being a 5197).

It's obviously quite dirty and is missing the badge, but it is otherwise in excellent condition!

Here is my recently rehabbed Reed 203-1/2

IMG_20191121_205835-X2.jpg

Among other vises, I have a Bison FPU (4.5" jaws?), a Desmond Simplex Utility 350, (both needing cleanup), a Versa Vise with multiple bases in almost unused condition, and a few smaller ones. There is also a PowrArm mounted one (base since repainted), and a few woodworking ones which get abused on a regular basis.

So I have to say this is a crazy looking vise that I just stumbled across and it looks huge. Does anyone have any idea what this one is? Anyone seen another like it? Price tag of $325 right now

I picked up this Wilton bullet vise in LeRoy, NY this past week for $60. It was built in February, 1952. The jaws aren’t original, and will need to be replaced. It’s been a long time since I found a Wilton bullet this size locally for such a reasonable price.
