I've been searching for a 10 drawer Craftsman heritage box for 10+ years. I finally got one! I overpaid and I'm good with that. I just don't find them for sale in my area. Now I have a large assortment of old Craftsman boxes and chests. The red ones will be restored as will the black one. The 10 drawer will go on top of the 8 drawer chest. The Crown logo may go to a new home in exchange for another Heritage. I'm still debating. On to the pictures...

Much nicer that mine, and if you don't care about the price, you didn't overpay!

I payed too much for a 12-drawer RemLine, and I can't remember how much it was all these years later. So, I am good.

In a previous post, I promised to take a photo of my 1957 Craftsman 8 drawer rolling cabinet next to my recently acquired 1951-54 Craftsman 5 drawer deluxe cabinet for comparison. As you can see, the 5d cabinet is a beast!

I bought these KRs new in 1974. If they are vintage, then I guess that I am vintage as well. Somehow, over the years, I have managed to lose one of the clip things which go inside the lid of the top box, I think designed to hold your "I want this or that" list for the Snap On truck's next visit. Anyone have one of those?

You have a nice hoard of boxes going!

I have a room in my basement that I'm making into a Heritage era shrine to hand tools. With 5 Heritage era stacks, it's already getting crowded, and I have 2 more I need to move in here. Once I get it organized, I'll take a family photo :)

SM: while I like your old Craftsman heritage boxes i think I like that blue file cabinet more. any chance you could post up a few more pictures of it on the metal cabinet thread and here's the link:

https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=305350&highlight=metal+cabinets

maybe with dimensions and a few open drawer pics too cause I can't say I've ever seen one like that. also I couldn't see a maker so do you maybe know who made it?

Still on the hunt for a matching vintage middle box. But in the meantime a good friend of mine built me a riser so at least the top box is at a better height for me.

Saw this at the swap for $10, but it didn't even have a tray and it was kinda beat up so I passed. Never seen one before though!

Ack!!!! :shocking:

Is there any way you can go back?! I've been searching for a box like that badged Fleet or PENENS or both for my master PENENS set! That looks like it might be a little later than what I want, but I could live with that. Wanted thread linked here.

I would have floated a $5 balloon for it and seen if it flew....or popped.
I would guess that box was made by Duplex which has been a recent topic of conversation on this thread.

Now that I know that, I'll keep you in mind. Not that I've seen one of these but I'm always looking!

Hi Drives, it's actually an oak card catalog. The PO painted it and I haven't stripped it yet. I can post it to the wood cabinets thread.

Guy is there regularly, I'll see him next weekend. I apologize but the swap cleans up by about 1-2pm and your post would have been too late anyways. I will absolutely check,

Just to be clear, at the bottom of my picture the box is bent up like something heavy fell on it, IT IS NOT COMPLETELY STRAIT. Let me know if that's a problem or not.

No apologies needed. Thanks! And yes, I see the dent, understand it is not straight and missing tray. For $10 + shipping I will try to fix it. Did you see what I want to put in it? 37-pc combo set. 1/4-inch set in box. 1/2-inch set, speeder, 14 sockets, 2 extensions, breaker and rat. DOE wrench set. Couple adjustables and pliers. Should fit right? Hard to tell how big it is in photo, but I am assuming it's the small hip roof (about 20" x 5" x 6"). Link again to pics of my set and catalog figure of set and box is here. I think it's the right box. What do you think?

EDIT; I PM'd you my contact info.

Fix the handle on older style Kennedy box

I have a Kennedy box from most likely the 1960s and it is missing a handle. I ordered one from Kennedy but even though it looks like the old ones from the outside it mounts completely differently.
I am wondering if others have used the new style handles on older boxes and how you secured them.

I have a couple of those vintage Kennedy Kits for machinists and one of those is missing a drawer pull. I ordered a new style one from Kennedy, (the lady I talked to was super nice and super helpful, especially for a less than $6 purchase!) and maybe can make it work or not, don't know. I am wondering if anyone on the Forum knows 1) is there a stash of the old style pulls anywhere and 2) if someone has made the new style work, how did you do it?

Well no one seems too interested in my vintage Snappys; so here's another item; actually trying to sell it. It is a Kennedy Kit rollaway of unknown to me vintage, I will guess the1960s sometime.

That’s a nice box. My brown roller is the same configuration. It’s in daily use in my garage. It is missing an original handle as well.

Too bad we're not closer BMW rider! I spent some happy years with Beemers, back in the late '90s and early 2000s. Great bikes!
My missing handle is not from the roller but from one of the smaller machinist's boxes, the wide two drawer model. Someone put a piece of wire through the holes for the drawer pull and that's the way it's been for probably 40 + years.

I have two of the older rollers like Davids; one red and one brown.

The brown one has a mid and top styled like d42's (My old racing boxes) and I'd love to score one of those rollers for a "set"

I like these rollers; they take a lot of weigh without complaint...

The red one is full (overflowing) of striking tools, The brown stack has a large mix of mostly fabrication tools... Drills Saws, files, chisels, sheet metal tools (hammers punches and snips), welding clamps... and antique ford and monkey wrenches.

I bought it at a garage sale in Minden, NV in 2017. I think the asking price was $225 and I got it for $200 and thought that it was a really good deal. See post 7773 in this thread. It still works like new. I used clamps, squares and tape measures out of it yesterday for a redwood project I’m working on.
