A couple of Proto LA combos
A Bridgeport Hardware Mfg dbl box
A Walden 1/4dr ratchet that needs a little restoration work
A CMan -V- 7/16 Whitworth socket
A CMan -V- 4mm hex driver
A CMan nutdriver in a size I needed

All in all a nice morning, although I did see a collection of misc vintage wrenches that had been abused and disfigured by a fine-grit belt sander.

Nice haul, between us we might be able to put together a set of the Bridgeport box wrenches. On the Walden ratchet, did someone add those nuts to hold on the faceplate?

Yeah, on that Walden they put on round head screws with nuts on the other side.
The screws came out with their threads pretty beat up, so I think they may not have used the correct size. The threads on the ratchet face plate seem fine, but I don't know if my thread gauge will get in the hole.
Does anybody know the exact thread specification for the screws on a walden rat like that? It seems like a #4 but finer than a 4-40...
I guess I'll try and see if my dad has a 4-48 or maybe a 5-44.

Heck, if it were me, I'd try swapping out the screws from another vintage ratchet. Then I'd take those screws down to my local Ace Hardware to at least find out what size/thread they were.
My local Ace has this guy working the tool section who is just kickbutt on this kind of stuff, and many times he can order it if he doesn't have it in stock. He has thread gauges and dies so he can usually tell me in 60 seconds what I've got.
Worst comes to worst, once you know the size/thread, check out BoltDepot.com.

How are the pickins up there in the Bay Area?

I am in Los Angeles, and finally came across a PROTO Los Angeles item, just a punch though.

decent sizes

how much did you pay?

I paid too much, but I don't have the time to go to estate sales, and thus am usually buying from the tool mongers at the flea markets.

Not a lot of vintage tools, but a little interesting stuff shows up every week. Enough to give me my fix! :)

In other news, the screws in that Walden ratchet seem to be pretty exotic. A 4-48 would sieze and not go through. Looking for a 4-56 to try.

Anybody have an intact walden rat like this and want to pull out a screw and test it with a thread gauge?

?

Sure you do! It's a reason to get up early on Saturday and you get a big jump on the day! You can cover a lot of ground because nobody else is up and the streets/frwys are empty.

True, true. I was referring to the first day of most professionally run estate sales, which open at 10am FRIDAY.

I know I'm a goner if I try to squeeze in one on Friday morning BEFORE work.

It may be this coming Friday. I need help.
