Sorry if there is a thread like this, I didn't see one with search...

Anyone have a really small tool box?

My 'little' box...

P1010182.jpg

What's in it? Well... (Old photo)

P1010183.jpg

At that time it had: (I ain't quoting part numbers)
-SO medium sized side cutters
-SO duck bills
-SO ratchet screwdriver
-SO 1/4 12-point deep set
-SO 1/4 12-point shallow set
-SO small 1/4 ratchet
-SO long handle 1/4 ratchet
-SO 5/16 Tq adapter
-SO 3/8 Tq adapter
-SO offset open-ends 5/16 - 3/4
-SO 1/4 and 5/16 ratcheting box end
-SO 3/8 and 7/16 ratcheting box end
-SO #4 phillips impact bit
-Knipex medium sized pliers
-Craftsman flex-head 3/8 ratchet
-Craftsman 3/8 drive 12-point set (IIRC, 3/8 - 3/4?)
-Craftsman 3/8 drive #4 phillips
-Craftsman 1/4" extensions (3)
-Craftsman drive adapters (1/4 to 3/8, 3/8 to 1/4, 1/2 to 3/8)
-Mastercraft 13/16 and 7/8 stubbies
-Mastercraft POS inspection mirror
-Vise-grip needlenose
-Fuller slot and phillips stubbies
-PA really small #2 phillips stubby
-PA magnifying glass
-2 hemostats
-2 brass punches, 3 steel pin punches
-2 picks
-Franz brand 'Sounding hammer' (way back in the top)

I since ditched most of the 3/8 drive stuff since I normally use the long 1/4 drive ratchet for everything up to 9/16. It all now lives in my clamshell box with my other less used stuff. Instead I added some 1/4 drive flex sockets, a pair of flush cutters, and a couple offset box ends (craftsman). It also now has a proper tool control list somewhere, and better uses the available space...

If the SO dealer would ever come back, I will be adding a 7/8 and 1" offset open end to the list.

Also, I removed the lock since it hampered me getting more stuff in there... But I will need to change the latch on it now since it is a 'hair trigger' without the lock.

Can't find the KRA65C on the Snappy website. Is this box out of production? I think they've slowly been lessening the number of small metal boxes in their line. I know this because I tried to order a really small box for my 1/4" drive stuff, but its not available anymore.

To the O.P., what industry are you working in? I'm wanting to guess aircraft mechanics, but I don't seen any safety wire pliers...

Good guess. Helicopters specifically.

I hate wire twisters. I just use the duck bills and the side cutters, I'm about as fast as most guys with the twisters. But we don't normally do long runs of lock wire. It would probably be different if I worked on large aircraft. Also, I'm weight restricted on my tools since they often have to be put on airplanes as baggage, so I don't have a lot of 'extra' tools.

Also, I forgot, there's a set of feeler gauges in there too.

You know I actually had to look at the photo 3 times to figure out how that top drawer operated.

That is slicker than snot how they incorporated the slide into the rail of the frame . . .

Thats pretty cool. So those are your work tools?

Some of my work tools, yes. I also have an older craftsman clamshell box, a newer clamshell, and a makita bag, all depending on where I'm working or what on... One of those boxes has metric tools and some specialty tools, the other TQ wrenches, hammers, electrical stuff, specialty/other standard tools and the bag mostly has spares (misc hardware, wire, parts that always break, consumables like lockwire and zip-ties ), gloves, a respirator and safety glasses. My most often used tools are in this box, and I take it with me inside/on top of the helicopter. It saves climbing down, or back out, etc to get a different wrench.

I put this box inside my makita bag when it is being shipped/in checked luggage.

No answer to my question? Hoping one of the SO dealers will chime in. I actually need a small box like this for an away-from-home aviation summer gig (I'm an A&P student). Was thinking about a small military style tool bag, but like this option better.

To the O.P., who do you work for, if you don't mind me asking? Feel free to PM me. I'll have both my A&P in another 9 months and, although I'm not necessarily a rotor-head, the travel and the generally higher pay both appeal to me.

Thanks in advance.

Oh that is a sweet tool box

I can’t believe the amount of tools that can fit in there.

Only problem is, that recently I’ve been thinking about doing up a “grab ‘n’ go” mechanics box (I already have a few electrical ones) & now I feel I'm about to "accelerate" the process & some hefty purchases are about to take place :)

This thread is being saved in my favourites for future reference.

Yeah, I actually just put together a compact kit for behind my truck seat.

I've been stuck without tools a few times in the last couple years, and this last weekend I got stuck in a spot where it cost me time and money for a tool I should have had in my glovebox.

I got fed up and put together a fairly complete kit in my little Milwaukee hex driver bag (same form factor as tool kit in OP, but it's a soft bag with no dividers).

It's kind of a mess with all of the tools just crammed in, and after seeing the OP's box, I'm already toying with building my own.

The setups i see in this thread, are almost more usefull than some super jumbo sets i see people hauling around.

I dont have any pictures but i have a setup, it's in a lil bag and in a gearwrench screwdriver case-

wirecutters, slipjoint pliars, craftsman combo's in inch and metric, inch and metric 1/4" sockets, 3/8" inch sockets, ratchets, a small adjustable, screwdriver and bits. a piece of pipe for a cheater and a claw hammer.

You can fit a lot of stuff in a carry tool box.

Most of my tools are in a small carry Craftsman box.

I don't own a large stand up tool box. I'd like one someday, but not an expense I need to incur at the moment.

You can get a lot down with a small box.. Big tool boxes are nice, but overrated.

The box on the left is just some plastic piece of **** from walmart. I now keep most tools in a smaller metal C-man box. Easy to transport.

Don't know if this really counts, haha. My wife put a very large Sears gift card in this when I asked for a new box a while back. Now it holds misc. air accessories.

A small box judiciously packed with tools can fix a lot of things. My road box on the service truck is a small hand carry box and while I have more tools in the truck, I can get most things done with the small box.

Example, I only carry 2 nut drivers in that box and not a set. !/4 and 5/16. I use them on most service calls. I only carry 2 metric wrenches, 10 and 12 mm. Rarely need any other size for what I work on. Only 3 1/2 drive sockets. Again the sizes I use. I get in a jam now and then but most of my customers gladly will loan a tool if needed,.
