Cheap is good but I really prefer the ones that don't let the car fall on you.

I just picked up an Arcan jack from Nothern Tool and it's built like a tank. 3.5 Ton cap with low enough profile to get under small cars and good lift height for larger vehicles.

3.5 ton Torin floor jack. Got mine at auction and its been great. Might pick up a set of 6 ton, double locking Torin jack stands from Northern Tool. They look safe with the extra locking pin.

Norco. a little expensive for jack stands (compared to HF, etc...) but it's a great product. floor jacks are made in taiwan with japanese seals but every one gets inspected once they hit arizona...

Can you share what your budget is? It might help us make a recommendation.

I got my first jack and jack stands in a combo with a creeper and wheel chocks back in 2004 for $50, that was when i was first learning how to work on cars and such....

Now, I still have that same pair of jack stands(they haven't let me down), 2 more jack stands of the same brand(which i forgot) but taller and a Snap On floor jack that I got in a deal through my brother in law for next to nothing.....

As for brands, I don't have a particular favorite. For me, as long as the car/vehicle doesn't fall on me I'm good.

The 6-ton stands and 3 ton super orange floor jack from HF work great from me. I also have a set of 6 ton stands that I picked up from Tractor Supply about 10 years ago and they work great...look the same as the HF ones though except a different color.

I use these to hold up Chevy Tahoes and no issues thus far. You can't beat the price either!

Holy cow! That's exactly what I've been looking for! I even designed a set I was going to see how much it would cost to custom make; only difference was that it would have a turn handle to more easilly adjust height. Do you know of a supplier for these in the U.S.? Their web site does not show any distributors in the US, unless I missed it.

Perhaps I've not seen the bottom end of the market and my friends only have light cars, but I've not worked with a jack stand that made me nervous. I've always preferred more rather than better -- having six rather than just four allows adjusting the position and using a back-up set.

I admit that I might have a different opinion if I had to roll under a Suburban...

Hi Alberto,
Rodcraft belongs to Atlas Copco so maybe your local Atlas Copco or Chicago Pneumatic dealer can help you. Since Rodcraft don´t manufacture anything but the country of origin of the jack stands is germany i think that a company called "Weber" produces them www.weber.de
They list 2 dealers in the US "AME International" and "SPX Fluid Power".
I cant find anything on their websites, the only interesting things are these jack stands which look like the old AC Hydraulic stands: http://www.ameintl.net/product-detail.php?cid=4&product_id=71
here is a pic how the Weber stands look like: click

Another manufacturer offer jack stands with spindle too: www.compac.dk

(looks like Weber too...)

I just bought one of the ARCAN jacks from Costco, it's the same one as NT sells. I paid $95.99 + tax. There's a thread about this jack here:

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36136&highlight=Arcan

It's very low profile yet lifts to over 21", I was able to put it under my tool box........ I have old Hein Werner 7 ton stands and 5 ton HW stands, very strong but I need to clean and paint them.

Here's the NT link:

http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200345429_200345429

The photos on NT don't show a rubber pad on lift point...?
