So I am still on the hunt for a Zero degree offset double box metric wrench set. Matco's set which was on sale was made in Taiwan. So the Mac guy comes by and I ask him where they are made. He couldn't tell me so I ring MAC's customer service number. These lovely wrenches are made in Taiwan too.

What the hell is this??? I can understand having a million and one fly by night (or otherwise decently reputable companies) selling Taiwan and China made tools but Mac and Matco??? Really??? And we are talking their hardline tools, not even the ratcheting wrenches.

thats not really a good reason. I suspect some of their other wrenches/sockets/ratchets are also taiwan made.

Also they are asking 280+ for a 6 piece wrench set. I wouldn't ***** much if the cost was 1/2 that for some taiwan made wrenches. There are some great quality taiwan wrenches even surpassing US made however Mac is making a killing off the mark up and that does not sit well with me.

not everyone buys them so they outsource, part of the outscourcing is getting the "mac" "matco" or "snap on" logo stamped on them. Then they try to justify the cost because of the name. Not saying its right, but currently how it goes.

From what I understand. Snap-On branded tools are made by Snap-On in the USA. Bluepoint brand can come from anywhere. This applies to tools only. Flashlights and other non-tool items can carry the Snap-On brand

If you want a US made, truck brand set of HP 0 offset box wrenches, Cornwell and SO are your choices. I have both and they are excellent. Cornwell has them on sale at least once a year.

If you are willing to get a Taiwan set, Genius or Toptul would be much cheaper alternatives to Mac and Matco, but with similar quality.

I must have an older Mac set, because my zero degree offset double box metric wrenches say "USA" on them. :dunno:

You should try the gearwrench 0 degree double box. They have a ratcheting box on one side and a regular box on the other. 8-19 for $150. They are good quality under my heavy eveyday usage.

Anytime a tool dealer cannot tell you were one of his tools are made it's because he knows it's not made in the USA. If it's made in the USA it will say so and you will not have to ask. This is why I stopped buying MAC tools years ago

This is why I will NOT buy a Snap On Rathet l not marked USA

If a tool is not stamped USA it is not made in the USA. The Snap On tools web site does not say that any of there tools are Made In USA.

Bull Sh*t. The Snap-on web site does list the COO.

I might not agree with the USA missing on them but I have talked to the guys that make them.

truck tools are already exorbitantly priced. better or not why would you want something you paid, say, $100 replaced at any point for an imported counterpart you could of purchased for $20 in the first place?

i have no problem with imports and am not questioning quality here, i just wouldnt line some CEOs pockets with bucket loads of green because they decided that paying fair wages for products to be made in their country wasnt for them.

lol sad because i just got the MAC guy to come by. Seems like a decent guy, good truck with good stock but I can't see myself spending a ton of money on non USA made truck tools.

What it comes down to is that in a few years Snap-on will be in the same boat as Mac with the tools coming from outside the USA. And what difference does it make anymore, you can throw a fit and try to boycott a brand of tool but someone else will buy from one of the tools brands. You can cry and moan all you guys want but our government is pushing business out of the country, higher taxes, regulations, permits, etc. Snap on is not going to shut down their outside plants down to please a handful when there sites are on the global market. Out of about 25 techs at my work, only a coworker and myself said something about the USA not being on the tools to the Snap on guy.

Skin,

The site has been wrong at times and half of what they make is not on the site. They do need to hire someone to fix it. The COO however seems to be correct if you look at tool carts and boxes, scanners, domestic tools and those made overseas.

I do not agree with removing the "Made in the USA" from their products and spent quite a bit of time in Orlando complaining to the management of SO about that issue. The lower level people understand but apparently some ******** near the top made that decision and refuses to reverse it. He must have pictures of the CEO of Snap-on screwing a goat or something to have that much pull.......

MAC's new wrenches that are basically the Facom 440 design are also made in Taiwan. So sad.

The 440 series is made in Czech Republic....not the same as the Toptul SuperTorque series. Many other Facom wrenches are now made in Taiwan......31 series, 39 series, 76 series, 59 series, etc.

I mainly buy their ratchets and stuff this is made in the US. I have already refused to buy a double box set due to them being made over seas. I have no problem with overseas stuff so as long as I am getting it at a good price and not a tool truck price.
