What's your workbench look like?

Here mine. Last winter's project. Needed better organization, which meant drawers! Frame is 2x3's, corner post are 2x4 because they needed to be double notched. I do have drawer pulls on it now!

I REALLY like this!! I'm planning something similar for my shop. Question though: I notice, you put end panels on the sides. Did you put interior panels as well? or are the slides directly attached the framing?? Would love to see a finished pic with the drawers out! Great job!!

Thanks! I did use double panels on the inside, with the hardware attached to them. I dismantles my origanal bench and reused most it. Draw hardware was the biggest expense. I got it directly form Gliderite.com. Decent prices there.

The bench in my attached garage. It will probably never be this clean again, though I hope to keep it close to this. The actual top is from an elevator door and the topside is stainless steel. The right end sits on angle iron pieces lagged into the back wall and side wall. The cabinets above were originally office cubicle cabinets. I paid $2.50 each at an office auction. I welded a back onto them to attach to the wall as they originally used brackets to attach to cubicle uprights.

There's a welding/fabrication table on casters in the detached shop that can be brought into the attached garage for heavy work. No pics of the shop as it looks like a bomb went off in there. Still lots of things that need to be moved back into the attached garage as time allows.

The stainless top is very cool. How did you score the elevator door? I can see it now two guys in masks prying the the skin off the hotel elevator. That must have been a wild convention.

Never posted a picture on this thread, but last month I put masonite board over top of my workbenches. It made a world of difference! Don't worry, they are not this clean anymore :)

Awesome bench A**hole.

I've read this whole thread twice in the last week. I need to get some ideas since I'll finally be building one in a month or so.

Here are a few shots of mine. I built this earlier this year, shortly after buying the house. Conveniently, the computer's homepage is GJ.

The workbench is 8 feet long, 3 feet deep, and 38 inches high made from 2x4s, 2x6s, and 3/4 inch plywood.

Cheers

Mine are nothing fancy, one of these days I will get around to building one right vs something that just got cobbled over the years.

Looks great, like the lime look. Welder and compressor but no vise? And so clean what am I missing here?

Just mounted my vice the other day!

I'm a bit of a clean freak.... I would never go to bed without things being put back in order and cleaned up. This picture is actually my 3rd car garage where my 2011 Jeep Wrangler gets parked. I have a 3 car garage and I insist that all 3 vehicles be parked in the garages so things have to stay clean!

I moved into my first shop about a year ago.
Working on the floor quickly got old, so I decided to slap together a couple benches.
Keep in mind, I have VERY limited carpentry experience.
I attempted to go for a "butcher block" top, but I did no research, and It didn't look so great. I used 5 pieces of threaded rod to passing through all the 2x4's to squeeze them together. The 2x4 on the face is just a cap to cover the rod. I quickly found out the white pine I used would just be too soft, so I skinned to top in masonite, and called it good.

I thought it would look good to set the 1x4's flush in the legs, as well as the bottom shelf.

Here's one of the 4 benches in my garage, with a fresh top I just put on:

Planning on coming up with a couple doors for the front of it to hide the storage clutter under there.

Man, that looks sharp! Too nice to use. Is that a piece of bowling alley?

Thanks! I'm happy with how it came out. It's actually an IKEA countertop I sanded smooth and sealed with 3 coats of gloss polyurethane. All the "real" butcher block workbench tops I found out there were quite expensive, but this one from IKEA was like $90.00. It's only 1 1/8" thick vs. a lot of the Lista/Craftsman/etc. ones are 2ish inches thick but it's fine for my uses for this bench.

I have another bench in the garage that is 8' x 2' that I built super burly and topped with a big sheet of stainless that gets the messy work so this one can stay clean. Nice thing about it being cheap though is that if it gets damaged such that sanding and resealing can't cure I'll just get another one :dunno:

Built a workbench with bowling alley for the top this summer. Local Habitat ReStore had bowling alley sections for sale a couple of years ago. They were anywhere from 8 ft to 16 ft long. Bought two sections 11+ ft long. Paid $50 per section. Split each of the 42 inch wide sections lengthwise. Bit tough on my old Craftsman circular saw as they are 2 3/8 inches thick and nailed every 6 - 8 inches.

The "uprights" are a torsion box design built from 2 x 4 and 3/4 inch plywood. Might sound like overkill but the top alone weighs ~175 lbs. Made it removable to allow easier transport. Finished bench is 36 inches high to match my other benches and my tablesaw. Planned to use the base to store larger items so no provision for additional shelves.

Bench fits along the side wall of my garage beside the F150 and still gives me a little room to work. Thus, the narrower than normal top worked to my benefit. Still need to give the base a coat of polyurethane. This was my "prototype" as I plan to build one for my basement workshop (winter project) and another for my pole barn / shed (when / if it ever gets a decent floor).

Keep those workbenches oiled and your balls out of the gutters.

Here is mine made from 2x4, two tool chests, and a counter top from my grandfather. I could get a better top but has some value since my grandfather used it. The second picture is my second workbench with bolt storage above it. It all works for my needs at this point, have to keep it somewhat compact in a two car garage.

Man, that looks slick! I'm thinking about building something similar... what are the dimensions of the top and frame?
