Outlaw I don't know why but for the last week or so I cannot see you pics when you post them. Only get red X's. Your thumbnails pics show up so I can stiill hit on them and see but not the ones in your threads like they used to.

Um... no clue as they are always hosted on GJ. I don't use Photo hosting services... :dunno:

Maybe a mod can help? Maybe you need to clear your cookies? :headscrat

I had a great day at the garage sales today!

Looks good but "you ****" awards are only given when prices are stated. (or hinted at)!!

Help with tool box!
This pales beside Outlaw's haul, but I was pretty happy. Got the Crafty toolbox at a flea market with about a dozen flat wrenches, 30 sockets, and a bit of miscellaneous for $20. Went to another vendor a couple of booths away who was selling c'man sockets for $1 apiece and offered him mine (all duplicates to me) for $.50. He took all my Cratsmans (24), so I ended up with the tool box, 8 Craftsman flat wrenches, several no-names, two 3/8 ratchets, Pro-Mark and noname, and a handful of other stuff for $8.00.

Now, the help I need. The box is in pretty decent shape except for the bottom. It's been overloaded and set on uneven surfaces to the point that the bottom is bowed up quite a bit. The bottom drawer still opens, but it drags on the bottom. How do you get the drawers out??? All I can see that's holding it in is the triangular piece that's punched in on the slide. I'm not sure I can pry it out without bending the heck out of everything. Is there some other release that's not easily sseen? Likewise, if I pry on the bottom with the drawers in place, I'm sure to bend at least the bottom drawer.

BFBOB Theres a "tab" on the drawer itself that needs to be pushed in You can see it in the pics resting up against the stop. First step push the drawer in a 1/4" without moving the slide to get the tab away from the stop. If you look at the pics of the slides you will see the oval shaped hole. Use a screwdriver to push the tab in through that hole it shouldnt take much force. Once the tab is pushed in you should be able to pull them right out. To put them back in pull the tabs back out slightly and they will "snap" back into place.

Hey, it worked! Actually, I had tried that, but just didn't push hard enough- by a lot. Still recovering from broken arms, so "hard enough" ain't what it used to be.

Thanks a lot!

Yep, it worked fine. I had tried that, but wasn't pushing nearly hard enough. Two answers in 5 minutes! Is this a great site or what!

Rickster - great quality pile... come on, enquiring minds want to know.... $$$$?????

Outlaw, great finds as usual!

Jim NO Garage, that is the kind of serendipity that I love. I was missing part of a sander, and bought a lot of shelves at auction--the missing part was sitting on top of the shelves. Hundreds of miles and months apart. Yet, there it was. I guess if you collect the bits and pieces, eventually you'll get what you need. If the universe smiles at you anyway!

I made one stop at an "estate sale" with the guy still there, setting prices and not selling. I'm not surprised that lots of tools were left for the second day, given his high initial prices. Still, 50% off on day two, and finally prices were reasonable. I packed several boxes with bits and pieces managing to spend $150. I'll post up as soon as I can sneak it in the garage ;-) (Just kidding, my wife has been much more supportive of the sale habit since I've been finding good stuff for her too.) I do have to get it sorted and documented. Highlights include williams sockets, older Cman spinner and breaker, and some sockets, a Chrony F1 Chronograph for $15, lots of $1 items and shop/garage supplies.

Let's see everyone else's good hunting!

Sorry, but I don't like to talk prices. Majority of the tools from three garage sales and we all walked away happy!

Antique fair today but no screaming deals. Got a 56 plate, two 62 plates, and three craftsman wrenches (21mm, 7/8", and 1/4") for a bit under $20. Slowly filling in the combination sets, but I still wonder if it would have been easier (and probably cheaper) just to buy the larger sets and sell what I don't need. Plates were on the rougher side but they filled in missing spots in my collection. Makes it a bit easier to look for plates knowing I only have to look for wide ones now.

I went back to one of the garage sales from the other day to see if I missed anything. Brought home this beauty! Snap-on KR-655A. No wheels but it has ball bearing drawer sliders! OK, since this one's not being resold I can tell you I paid $100 for it.

Let me the first to say it: That'll buff out!

Actually 90% of that will buff out. It's gonna take: strong detergent, pressure washer, solvent, mineral spirits and a toothbrush, buffer and some compound. And a lot of elbow grease. Ask me how I know!

Got a couple more things today, a mostly full S-K 1/2" socket set, all sockets from 7/16 to 1" 1/6, ratchet, and two extensions. I think the only thing it is missing is the metal box. Also another Plumb ball peen hammer. A Craftsman 1/2" ratchet, some random US Made sockets (Proto, Williams, Craftsman) and a Craftsman easy read socket set. Not bad for a whopping $25 total.

Funny how I created the thread and have not been garage sale-ing in a long time :(

I think I need to start but since I don't live in town, it's a speacial trip. Between that and most of the places that have garage sales are low lifes trying to make a fast buck for drug/cigarette/beer money I stay away.

Went to a couple garage sales this weekend. Scored a few older things:

Two Fairmount machinist's wrenches (SOE)
one Williams DOE wrench
a Ridgid angled-handle pipe wrench
red cast iron razor knive
11" adjustable monkey wrench
and a Millers Falls 199 four-position screwdriver

All for $9. I love saving the older iron...

Since I work sat and sun I miss all the garage sales and flea markets usually. I did get to go to a few when I took my holidays (and stayed home). I scored this pile at a 2nd hand store. They were in grab bags so you had to take the good with the bad:

Junkstorescore583_zps88d49778.jpg

SO 6" ext, 25/32 socket and an 8mm deep socket on the left. 4 deep sockets on the right are mixed USA. The offset box end set is industro and the regular sockets are mostly gray with the highlight being a 1 3/16 which I didn't have. The 8 sockets top centre are taiwan so in the junk pail with them. $13.00 wasn't a screamin deal but when you don't go to too many you're easy to please.

A lack of self-control

Just when I thought the season was about over, I stumbled upon a couple of good sales this weekend. This needs to end soon as I am officially broke now and running out of room!

The best sale was advertised simply as a garage sale with tools. It turned out to be the lifetime collection of a wonderful 84 year old gentleman who could barely stand but certainly had wonderful taste in tools. I dug through the small garage for 45 minutes. Found my best haul ever of P&C tools but plenty of other brands as well. Gonna need some help with some of the older brands and logos so please stay tuned.

Here are some highlights from the first sale:
