Fred C Moran 4" Double Swivel Vise Restoration

I picked this up 12/18/12 for $20.

Went to work on it. Pretty cool vise. I tore it down, had my buddy's company, DEVCO, sandblast it. (We taped off jaws and sliding/contact parts).

He then gave me some kick *** bondo/filler, so I added a little here and there to the vise, then wire-wheeled it.

I will be trading out the tommy-bar lock nut for the bottom nut and the top swivel bolt for McMaster Carr Adjustable handles that 454RAGTOP on here schooled me on. Thanks!

I went with Rust-Oleum Hammered Copper and Hammered Brown. Used Ant-Seize on swivels, screw, etc.

I think Fred C Moran may have sold out to Flexivise, JerryW, has one on here. I'm now on the look out for a Chas Parker 474.

Let me introduce myself. The 4" double swivel vise that Mohawk Dave posted on 01-1-01-2013 was made by my Great Uncle in my Dad's family. I have one that belonged to my Dad which is actually has one unit that makes it a triple swivel vise. If anyone has additional info about Fred C. Moran I would appreciate having it. ...........thanks

Very cool family info. Let's see a picture of yours and the 3rd swivel! I've searched the googles and found very little other than the patent info on it. Flexi-Vise seems to be the same...maybe Fred sold to them???

My parents just handed this down to me. Was my grandfathers bench vise. Trying to find history on it and stumbled on this forum. If anyone has info on I’d love to learn more.

WARNING: Those vises are dangerous. Guys have been found in their garages with the their upper bodies twisted up like pretzels from using them! You should box it up and ship it to me immediately for proper disposal

Seriously, my mind has been pretzelized for just trying to visualize that vise in action. It would be great for a hack welder like me who only can run flat beads (no vertical or over head welding for me yet). I think I've seen one of these posted on the vise thread a year or so ago. Anyway it's an neat vise and the fact that it was your grand dad's makes it a unique family heirloom too. If you don't use it you should display it somehow, very cool vise! Thanks for posting.

Now that my mind has been pretzelized I just had a thought that you could clamp the jaws on some very heavy piece of steel that would lay on the floor and hold it upside down but steady. Now fix a plexi glass round slab to the bottom of the base and it would make a round topped table you could see though to admire the vise. I want one for my living room now.
