I did something similar with 10 gauge solid wire. Not the easiest stuff to work with but luckily I do not have that many wrenches :)

I have a free role of 12 gauge wire, I will try tonight!

It has to be solid strand I used Romex, stripped the outter case so I had the white and black coated inner wires...then I just wrapped it tight around a broom stick and when it was done slid it off and compressed the spring together...

Then laid it in the drawer and snapped the wrenches into it...I did one with my 6 point wrencehs, one with my 12 pt and one with my line wrenches...again its pretty slick and cheap :rocker:

the coated solid strand is best...doesnt scratch your wrenches...of course im sure copper wouldnt either and my wrenches are used anyway....I was going to look at Lowes and see if they sell single strand solid 10gage...or I can buy Romex and strip it...10 gage is tough so I may stick with 12

My american sizes are spread out and not a real problem right now...it was just getting crowded n the metric drawer...looks great now...

I did the same thing with both my wrench drawers, but I used 16 gauge wire. Oh and wrapped it around a broom stick.

That seems like a great idea. I think I might try adding a flat plastic base to the wire coil - give it a little more rigidity. And bend the coils over the the wrenches lay down a little an can fit in a thinner drawer.

Thanks for posting the link!

I just did this with some extra 14ga. wire I had. I have some 10, I'm going to try that. I think the 14 is a little flimsy, but for now it works. I used a hammer handle to wrap it.

I have had a few of mine sets wrapped up with 10g. Just make sure you wrap it around PVC or steel, etc. I first tried on a broom stick and I couldnt get the wire off.

I found that if you leave a few extra inches on each side, you can twist it under the wrenches and triangulate a base . The keeps the coils from pulling up when you try to grab a wrench from the end and also helps them to stand up straighter

I made mine out of coat hangers, copper may be a better idea but it what I had on hand. I really like how many more wrenches I can get in the drawer.

Could have been 14, I'd have to go look. Either way they work great.

Inch wrenches

The bare ground wire ones work but do not grip the wrenches at all.

This is a great idea great

Here's an earlier picture of my wrench drawer. I don't have that many at work, just the basics.

Moved the wrenches to a deeper drawer so the big wrenches can fit. I also got two new sets of Horror Fright wrenches. They're stacked thus saving precious space.

I had some large size wrenches (32mm-20mm) that were just kinda floating in the drawer. Tried the 12 wire and seemed kinda flimsy for the larger wrenches. Found some rolled brake line in the garage and gave that a try. Definitely harder to work with but I'm much happier with the results. Great tip...and pretty much free

Great idea! I am going to try it tomorrow.

I have always been a big fan of Yakov Sminoff. Its nice to see him back on camera.

You would think he could afford to do something about the rat problem though.

I used coat hangers today, only down side is I can only hold 6 wrenches at a time. Although it's super stiff, I question if it'll hold up in a service van.
