My local Ace Hardware store recently added one of these to their fastener aisle, and I asked them to order one for me. I can't find any manufacturer name on it other than that it was made in China. It was $45. We have a group of kids from Trenton come over to learn racing mechanics, and we work on karts and cars that have a combination of metric and standard hardware. This will be a huge help in reducing stripped threads.

Yeah, those are pretty nice. I noticed some at Lowes last week. Great that they ordered one for you.

Very slick.. I've been trying to find a good one of those for use on my own projects. I'll have to hit up my local ACE and see if they'd be so kind as to order me one.

Very cool product! Did the box or invoice have a part number on it?

I posted about a similar one a few months ago called Check-A-Bolt. It's available at Rural King for $38.

Small correction, it is called CHECK-A-THREAD, STANDARD AND CHECK-A-THREAD, METRIC

Made by Rockford Products. The bad news us they went under...I think...

News Release from http://www.pbgc.gov/media/news-archive/news-releases/2008/pr08-37.html

Rockford, founded in 1929, made non-wire steel springs and sold bolts, nuts and screws. On July 25, 2007, the company sought Chapter 11 protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Rockford because of weakening sales in the automotive sector. In December 2007, following a court approved asset sale, the company ceased all operations, terminated its employees and entered Chapter 7 liquidation.

Must be a different company, because I tried the telephone number on the website, and it is still a good number.. Someone else might have purchased the assets of the company and continued on with the name.

They have these at Grainger as well. I bought one several years ago and use it all the time.

I have several thick plastic parts with various threads that do the job for me. But then I can ID most threads by eye after years of practice. Metric threads are particularly easy.
