Hi GJ!

So my family moves into our new house on 9/9 and am really excited I have a 2 car garage that the wife has graciously allowed me to do with as I wish.

Drywall is already up but not painted, a few 2x4 shelves and even a few windows!!!
It also has concrete block up about 2 feet from the floor.

I would like to put some coating down on the floors, two tone paint job on the walls maybe, trim work, and some nice cabinets/workbench area.

My main question, is there some type of checklist/order of things I should do?

I've built shelves, painted, and put up drywall but haven't done an entire design and want to make sure I do it right the 1st time since it will be empty and I'll have a window of time to work in.

Main use is for some storage, workbench area, and mainly to pamper my baby (2012 Challenger).

Thanks in advance!
Jon

Hello and welcome!! You have come to the right place if you are looking for ideas. Just case the joint and you should see a lot of everything you want/need. The decision is yours depending on the price, use and space that you have. It sounds like you have a great place going. Show us some pictures when you get a chance. We'd love to see the place. Good luck.

First before you do anything take pictures, then take them as you go.

Spend a few days (yes, days or hours) scrolling through the garage gallery section and get some ideas. Write all your ideas down in a list, make a sketch of your plans and then proceed.

Putting a general location into your profile will also help others give you better advice suited to the area where you live.

Welcome to GJ.

Hey I just joined too and its a very informative site.I am remodeling my garage and first thing I did is put a subpanel in for more outlets and lights. That is alot easier to do first than if you have drywall up as you say but is still something to plan for.Good luck.

I'm with HEDGE25, most garages have one receptacle and one light. I would add electricity first before I did anything else.

^^^ +1

Is the garage attached? Even though you already have DW up, you might run some 6-3 romex to the garage for a future subpanel.

Thanks for the input guys.

Is a sub panel a smaller breaker box attached to the main breaker box?
That's what it looked like via google.

It has 2 fluorescent fixtures in there but would want to add more.

I've attached some pics to help explain what I'm working with.

Garage will be empty once we move in.

I would also like to put some trim down so its not just a nice painted floor with exposed block leading to nice paints drywall.

Would I use the floor coating all the way up the block?

Also what about bug control? I hate getting to a box that's been sitting a while to find its now a spider town.

Thanks!

EDIT: I think I can only attach 1 image per post. More on the way

Floor looks to be in good shape.

Looks like 4 10x10 slabs with the small space in between each

Garage is roughly around 22x22, ill see if I can find exact numbers later tonight.

No cracks that I could see just dirty and stained.

Want to put down a coating down not sure of color yet.

This is the outside door to show the blocks that go up a few feet.

Not sure what I can do here?

Do some reading in the flooring section, you'll find plenty of information there on your choices.

What do you want to do around the door with the block?

Just finish it so its not raw looking.

I guess paint it and toss some wood trim around it?

I've been reading the forums for the last 2 hours solid on my phone while in the ER with my mother. Still trying to find what others have done.

After looking I think I want to use some vinyl cove molding (believe that's the correct name) to create a seamless transition from floor to wall and use epoxy coating to seal it all togehter.

Just worried that the floor and walls will be nice and smooth but the 2ft worth of block will not look correct in between being all rough.

Could I cover the top half in pvc/wood trim? Or do you guys think that it would look worse going from cove molding to other molding.

Thanks

Once you prime and paint it, that block will slick up pretty well and wont look so rough.

You could always skim coat over it.

I looked up skim coat and that does look like what I'd want to do.

Thanks for the advice!

Time to go post in the flooring section :)

That's pretty sweet it's already got a loft above the door. Some pay good money to have those built by contractors.

Thanks man!

Yea I am pretty stoked about it. My current garage is about the same sqft but not as tall so not as much storage as in the new one.

Also, and my favorite part, is that it's 1 big door instead of 2 small ones that can only fit tiny cars in so I can finally get my car in there yay!
