I've never had luck with any of these cans. I also prefer to do hot oil changes on my BMWs. Hot oil changes and plastic don't mix. I had a brain fart moment once. Didn't realize plastic melts from hot oil. Go figure. Imagine 8.5 quarts leaking out through a quarter inch hole.

I have a round drain catch container like that one. Works good. Had it for 15 years. Just make sure you open the vent while draining the oil or it will spit out oil as it fills up container. I have never had a problem with hot oil melting. Mine being older was probably not made in China I dont know if this one is.

Yeah i've not had a problem with oil and the blitz's,etc from autozone melting i've done a few hot enough that I don't want to put my hand under but not hey get off the interstate from an 8 hour drive type hot =)...usually warm.

Mines round too (with the spout that comes out the side) but i've had no luck with the caps not leaking on those.

This one looks decent enough, you can stand it up so even if the caps aren't as good as they say it shouldn't leak, and i can put it in the truck bed box and not worry about a potential leak on the way to the recycler. And on the shelf the same.

I may give it a shot and i'll post back, though my next oil change isn't for quite awhile as i changed it yesterday...and of course drips everywhere from the round pan side spout caps leaking.

It looks like a bit of a PITA to drag around the shop with used oil in it.

I use my old galvanized oil pan I bought 40 years ago. Then I dump it into 5 gallon jugs you can get for free from restaurants. I have two jugs, so I can get by taking the used oil to recycle about once every 3-4 years.

Ran across this one, if i was driving more like I used to and doing frequent changes i'd get this

http://www.delta4recycling.com/howto.html

That one i posted looks like you drain then just carry it like a jerry can no leak potential since the cap's at the top, the rounds one I have is a pain you get it full, then balance it trying not to get the cap to spill then on a shelf.

Yeah if the 1st one doesn't work , i'll go back to the ol galvanized pan and separate container.

I only need to change once or so per year (low miles driven) looking for something i can just store verticle on a shelf that isn't total **** like blitz. Just wondering if the caps are good like they say.

Delta 4 looks good too but with as little as i use it like the above for shelf space.

I have one of these. Its great. Best oil drain pan I've owned. Its made by Geo Plastics and here is their website.

Im not sure about the pan you posted, but with some drain pans, an anti-freeze jug cap will thread right on and seal well. Closed top pans are nice, as far as dropped tools wont fall into them (they always fall right into the pan, dont they?) but the closed top usually makes them splatter oil or coolant all over.

I have used one like that in the Summer when I don't have access to the lifts at school. Works just fine, although mine doesn't have the small air bleed at the top, and I have to loosen the cap so the air can escape as the oil is going in.
