Snap On KRA100 Concerns...Possible Ownership

I happen to have the opportunity to purchase this box at a fair price but the box is in fair shape. Came from a body shop and there was tons of over spray(isn't that what the paint booth is for). Due to the over spray the second owner hit it with a DA...and so it sits like that. Needs keys...asking 950, I was thinking of offering him $400-500.

I this is an upgrade from my set-up due to the deep draws BUT it is lacking a DRAW that is full length of the chest and not deep enough to hold my sockets and trays all in one draw. Is it possible to reconfigure the draw set-up or should I just keep looking?

$400 would be bang on Tops for a screwed up bottom of the line SnapOn. It wouldn't be worth that to me.

I wouldn't want anything but a KRL, but do what ya gotta do.

First thing to do is go on Ebay and do a search for KRA boxes. Used the completed tick box on the left so you can see what they "actually" sold for.

Then hunt boxes down on CL, which is what I guess you are doing.

I want to point out that the KRA boxes aren't much. A KRL is a lifetime box that if you do well buying a used one will always command some cash.

I bought a Brand new limited edition Top/Bottom boxset in Flawless never used condition with a matching roll around cart. Retail was $15K, I bought for $5000 and the guy drove 250 miles and delivered it.

If you are paying cash, you have the advantage, take your time and wait, it'll come. Look for KRL's with 28" deep drawers.

HINT: if there aren't massive springed casters, move on. I've seen KRL-1023 in that range of price.

Just my 2 cents

Wow, eh, what color are the drawers? No way at $950 IMHO.

My response to Danny

Seller Claims that the drawers are 28" deep. Says the box is 53" Wide and 46" Tall. I really need a deep box,my current set up is a slew of 6 SO boxes.

Ideally I would like to get a triple bank, with side lockers on each side!

I have seen good deals on Ebay but to far away as I dont have a truck and trailer yet. Once we close on a house, I can acquire my toys. Thanks for your response.

I WOULD NEVER PAY $950, thinking 400-500 range THAT IS IF I CAN ONLY swap out drawers to make the top drop the whole entire length of the box.

Like my main box.

I don't think that is going to happen, there is a wall between the short and long drawers. The slides just can't float in mid air now. ;)

Seems like a KRA is a light box to have 28" drawers. I would look that box over real close before I made an offer.

I don't know if it's fair to give advice on that picture but I do know there are a lot of used KRL's around at decent prices, some say you may even get a deal off a truck, and a clean KRL is a lifetime box.

That thing looks like a KR1000 to me. Heavy duty as hell if so.

It'd be a fair purchase at $500-600. You'll have to strip the whole thing down and repaint it, figure a couple hundred in paint. Snap-On's paint is used only by them, and is expensive no matter where you get it. I used to know the Ditzler paint number for the red paint. You can find it if you google it.

KRL that size on craigslist go for $1500-2000. These boxes in real nice shape only go for $1000, they don't have a full width drawer. $500 is VERY fair to the seller. Who would actually lay out the cash at 950???

If this box were pristine,it might be in the $800 + range, but with the paint in such sorry shape, it would need extensive sanding and repainting, leaving it more in the $400 range. Ken.

I'm surprised there aren't more my little pony stickers on these expensive tool chests.

Actually cool what they did to the drawer fronts. Gives it some character.

It does look unique, from the photos it I assumed that they painted the box over with that black chalk board paint. Then they finished it off with chalk. The new owner took a DA with 90 to it.

Not sure what the difference is b/w the KR and KRA but the seller says it has the heavy duty casters.

Either way since the drawers can not be re-arranged then this box is useless to me. I have OCD issues and need all my sockets in one draw neatly displayed. Those thin draws mean socket rails and I despise them. I am vertically challenged but still don't want to bend down every time I need a socket. Seller himself says it is not getting any action, might just keep his number and when we do move in the house I got myself a little project to make some money on and hone my body work skills.

I'm from NY everything here is expensive, if boxes like this went for 1k, I woudn't even think about buying this for $400-$500. My time is worth more then that.

I <3 Black and that would be the color of this box if I choose to restore and keep it. Match my EscaHoe nicely in the garage.

Red would be prime for flipping since it hide some imperfections in the restoration process. What does a gallon or quart go for in SO colors?

asking $950? one too many zeros. I wouldn't put that box in my shop or work out of it if it was given to me.

you should be able to score a used KRA2422 that will give you a couple full width drawers.

A KR1000 is a very heavy box that can support those deep drawers. I think the next in the series is a KRL with one full length drawer.

I doubt there is any close to easy way to put a full length drawer in that box.

You know best what boxes sell for in your area so I hate to tell you what to offer but while I think it's worth a look, personally I would not go $950. Paint is expensive.

That is definitely a KR1000. Best box Snappy ever built as far as quality IMO. Just sold a nice one for $1400. You can tell its a deep box 29" because of the spring loaded casters. Only Snap on's deep box comes with them. The next Generation of boxes was the KRL and the full width top drawer on a roll cab came into fashion then. Snappy did have a full width top drawer on the top box prior to that.

I would be very careful on any body shop box. The body dust kills slides. If all the drawers don't open and close smoothly and easily, I would pass for sure, no matter the price.

Now as to the price. Assuming mechanically the box is sound, $400 to $500, if you want a project. And that may be too much.

Just to give you some perspective on pricing, I sell used truck brand double bays from $1400 to $2600 depending on condition and age. Had one sell for more but it was about new with a SS top. Normally have about 10 in stock.
